What Other Cars.....
Jerry DeMoss replied to devildog78brat's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
There are a few gen 1 brats at the yards around here that have complete carbs on them. Let me know if you want me to pull one for you. Or if you want to convert yours over to a weber I could help you there also. I have a spare ea71 intake as well if you need that. -

My latest car 1973 GSR
Jerry DeMoss replied to kiwi subbie's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Really nice looking intake! You may want to try soda blasting the carbs instead of bead blasting. It is much easier on the parts and it just washes off with water. Also another trick I used is to use a old tooth brush along with some creme hand cleaner with pumice in it and scrub the parts that need attention with it and then wash them off with water. -
Ea82spfi intake modified for weber.
Jerry DeMoss replied to Jerry DeMoss's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I am not 100% on that but by comparison the runners look a bit larger. I would eventually like to try it using a seat dynamometer test.(Arse) -
http://mthobby.pcperfect.com/ch601/chengine6.htm This is some rather interesting info on using a ea82 spfi intake manifold and modifying it to fit a weber to it with a built up adapter plate. This is off of a aircraft site but very interesting. Pretty cool idea since the ea82 spfi will out flow a ea81 and ea82 carbed intakes.

XT steering wheel in an RX

Pull n save in aurora had a fwd xt last time I was there. -
What is this? - EA81 CA spec.
Jerry DeMoss replied to Greenley's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Since you are in cali I wouln't recomend plugging off the egr port on the ea81 head. Some emissions testing places may spot that and not like that, but if you aren't worried about that you can go to the hardware store and get a metric plug that would fit that hole. -
transmission fluid 92 loyale
Jerry DeMoss replied to saetern's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Castrol makes a atf specific for japanese auto trannies. Good trans fluid and it isn't as expensive as the synthetic stuff. Should work good in the cold weather since you are in anchortown , ak. -
XT steering wheel in an RX
Jerry DeMoss replied to mikeshoup's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey Mike I know they are the same. I have pulled a couple off at the yards comparing similarities. Good luck. -
Looks like the black box is just a catch tank for the coolant. I have also seen some intake manifolds like the one on the spfi ea82 being converted over to a weber carb since the intake runners on that are larger than the standard ea82 and ea81. A special adapter plate would have to be made since there isn't one in production.

EA81 perf parts
Jerry DeMoss replied to Twitch de la Brat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Actually there is quite a bit you can do depending on what you want to spend. Check out the Ram performance website. They make stuff for people using the ea81 in small aircraft and I am pretty sure you will find what you are looking for there. -
I like that very much! I have always wanted to drive a little justy on gravel roads bouncing off of the rev limiter.

I'm back in the subie game!

Yes it was a auto to start with in the ea81t car. I guess that would explain some more room than what you are experiencing. -

Hey I did a 5 spd 3.9 d/r trans swap into my '84 ea81t coupe and it didn't fit too bad. Wasn't any reason for pounding the tunnel but yours might be different. I did however use the kit made by Jerry S. -

22R head removal
Jerry DeMoss replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
Depending on the mileage of the 22r I would recomend replacing the timing chain backing plate as well since they wear out over time and it ends up going into the coolant passage behind it. If you end up just replacing the head you should just try and keep the chain in the same position on the lowers sprocket and remove the head. Also the upper cam gear needs to go back on with the same side out as you took it off. A friend of mine put his on backwards and it wouldn't run. Cheers. -
205-60-13 racing tires for CHEAP
Jerry DeMoss replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Dang it , why did you have to show pics of those nice tires on your car!? I really want some now, but I don't have a ea81 car anymore.:-\ -
ea81 - ea82 5sp conversion, flywheel?
Jerry DeMoss replied to Phizinza's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
What I used when doing the 5spd swap into the ea81t coupe I used the larger ea81 flywheel and a ea82 clutch disk with the ea81 pressure plate and ea82 thow out bearing. Sounds like a big mix of mischief but it works really well. The only other thing I did was shim the ea81 starter with some thin shim washers about 1mm to make it mate up with the ea82 trans better.
