  1. That has got to be one of the nicest old Alaska subies I have ever seen! Even when I lived there any of them that have ever been that old have been a heap of rust. Nice job on rescueing an old subie. I am truely amazed you found that in that condition!
  2. A ea81 dual carby motor I hope! Oh man that little car of yours would be a hoot with that engine! I think a ea81 dually with a ea81 front wheel drive 5speed would be super. Let us know what you come up with!
  3. Actually heard of a few people cracking them in really cold weather when I lived in Alaska. Around -20*f to -40*f is when I have seen them fail. Rear disks would be a good idea especially braking hard in cold weather.
  4. I think that looks great! I love the hatch with that decal on there.
  5. Another rx to spot on the colorado streets makes me very happy! I will keep looking as always for more new rx's to look at.
  6. That is a beaut! Lots of hard work on the interior floor and those rear brakes! Good job! Way to keep an old subie on the road!
  7. You may be better off taking that engine out and doing a complete reseal. Head gaskets valve covers, seals the whole works. Let us other coloradoans know if you come down to wanting to sell it. I for one would love to find an rx to throw an ej22t into. Good luck with solving the coolant issue.
  8. I didn't spot this one before. Sorry Tom , guess I am getting blind and usually notice stuff that pops up especially with local subie friends. I am up for it if we all decide what we want to do.
  9. Yes. Let me know if you need some help. I actually flipped to the section in my subaru manual that talked about replacement this weekend when I was working on my brakes. I was thinking of that as well.
  10. I just installed these pads along with new rotors in the front along with replacing my right front cv. The difference with these pads is a pretty nice suprise. My brake power went way up and they don't make very much noise. I noticed a pretty big difference with braking hard at high speed (not much in lifted rigs) really helps alot with having bigger tires on there. I think overall they are worth it.
  11. So how does it ride now compared to having the rancho's in the rear? Is it alot stiffer?
  12. That is pretty sweet! Not road legal I take it right? Lots of hard work I can really tell. Nice job!
  13. That sounds like something I really need to see! I am going to be busy saturday but maybe a day after work during this next week. Let me know if you are free in the evenings enough to let me come have a peek?
  14. Sounds like a big project.First off don't bother with a ford motor and trans. I would go with a 3.0 h6 motor and you will have lots of power and weigh alot less. Nice drawing by the way.
  15. That is what old matress' are for! I think we can find something since you seemed to figure out your throttle cable mounting bracket very well.
  16. There is no external return spring other than the one already on the carb if that is what you are asking. I thought about that also.
  17. Were you able to drive it a bit? I might give ya a call later if I think of something. Did you get a backfire from the tail pipe or out the carb?
  18. Yes honda does make a few shaft drive motorcycles, one is the goldwing. Also there were some early 80's three wheeler atv's that were shaft drive made by honda as well as some of the utility type 4wheelers.
  19. I have an intercooler from a ej20h(twin turbo legacy) and it is a bit smaller than that of a usdm wrx or sti.I think the early ej20 types will fit nicely.
  20. I agree on the gold or bronze. I have seen both before on different cars(subies that is) and they look very nice. Be original that is all I can say.
  21. If I remember correctly the mixture screw is sitting a 1 1/4 turns out. Also the timing should be right on the mark right now since Shawn worked his timing magic, since he is a 4th level subaru wizard. I was thinking about this a little more and sometimes cough through the intake can be from a lean condition and out the tail pipe is generally from rich condition. I will have to look through my weber book some more.
  22. No it is not the same as your ea82. Buy an oem subaru gasket. I think anything less would be asking for trouble.
  23. It is possible that you warped it a little or just distorted it from over tightening. I think loosening the base just a little would be a good idea to start with. Also try spraying some carb cleaner on the shaft and that may help free it up a little bit.A return spring would be a bad idea especially if you end up having trouble with that when you are out mucking around in your car.
  24. I think it would be plenty possible since airplane guys with kitplanes build stuff with ea81's and not much else,so I don't see why not. I would see what they have done (haven't looked really in depth my self) and then go off of that for starters.
