noob question about boxer sound
Jerry DeMoss replied to nkx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Another reason behind the "subaru sound" is that since it is a horizontally opposed engine you have a larger surface for sound to resonate from.I have heard this in theory and I have nothing to back this up.Cheers:drunk: -
Wiring Harness For 85' Brat
Jerry DeMoss replied to gwsbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What part of colorado are you in?There are some pretty good junk yards down here in the denver area if you are ever down this direction.I know there are plenty of vehicle that you could get a wireing harness from.Ask some of the other people from co. also or myself and we can help you get one for your brat. -
how much for new head gasket installed??
Jerry DeMoss replied to shorepig's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Depends first on what engine you have in your vehicle. If it is OHC then you should get the cam seals while you are at it.If it is OHV then just do the HG with the valve cover gasket. Are you doing it yourself or paying someone? -
Ignition Coil & Carb Issues
Jerry DeMoss replied to Bacon Rig's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
since you said you did plugs and wires and cap, I would check to see if you have your wires on the correct cylinders.I know that would make it run like crap. -
Tighten up the Shifter play?
Jerry DeMoss replied to captainkettel's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
There is definatly a fix for this.It involves cutting the shaft on the transmission that goes to the connector to the stick shift itself.Cut a slot lengthwise in it and use a bolt to go through the hole in the top were the pin used to be and it will compress together.I am sure someone has pics of this. -
Hi I saw a 1993 auto turbo legacy for sale and thought I would see how hard it would be to swap from auto to manual? I would like to hear from people that have done something like this. The main things that concern me is the pedal cluster and the wiring involved taking the auto out and converting everything over. And lastly I am not sure what tranny I would try to use with that.Just thought I would ask all you smart people out there.

Ya rustiness comes with living in the AK lots of mag chloride and saltwater to make your car get rusty quick.Once broke a socket wrench trying to get the bolts off of a rollbar on a truck I used to have.Just lots of corrosion to seize everything together.Use pb penetrating oil, seemed to help. -
I like the snorkel.Kind of a ram effect on it.Looks good.

Rear CV Axle Problems!!!!! Help!!!
Jerry DeMoss replied to TurboXT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey Turboxt I will be more than happy to help you Monday afternoon if you don't get it off of there.I guess if that doesn't work I can go to the JY and try to pull some other ones off some vehicles. Now I wish I would have grabbed the ones off the wagon we got you pedal cluster off of and you rear diff.Oh well. Just let me know. I can bring my tools if you would like. -
I pulled up to dino's italian resturant at the corner of kipling & colfax and saw a dark colored lifted ea82 wagon with Alied Armament sticker on the side window. I was picking up some pizza's for carry-out I had ordered.I was there around 8pm.Anyone know who's car this was?I know Rick(Turboxt)said KBD had just finished his wagon.Looked sick!

Ya pns has good subaru selection. They also have weekend specials.Have to call to see what they offer each weekend.Sounds like you live close to me. I live on 44th in between wads and sheridan. -
What type of vehicle are you doing the work on?What motor more specifically.Turbo or n/a?Get a shop manual if you don't already have one....Most of the heads on subes require you to untorque them in a certain order for removal so you don't warp the heads. And so on for the retorque for the istallation.

Hey I live in wheat ridge what part are you from? Always looking for more members of the sube community.Welcome aboard! -
I wish someone would write down something as far as the wiring goes.I would like to have something to be able to look at when doing wiring as I am sure others would appreciate that as well.Could someone come up with a helper guide so others don't have to keep checking everything that they prob don't need. I think I may want to do a swap like this some day.....Anyone got some ideas for getting a book/wiring help guide for subes besides the shop manuals....They can be very vague.Just an idea.

Check your bleeder valve on the caliper.Make sure it is tight. That is a good place to start.Otherwise check where the brake line itself for any small cracks from offroading& debri that may have struck the line. Also check the fitting from the brake line where it meets the caliper and make sure that is tight.Good luck.
