  1. It's definetely under the hood. Might also add that whenever the air is on, the enging tries to overheat. This also started after the belts
  2. Our 93 Loyale is making a puttering sound. This started after we had a new timing belt put on. Any ideas? thanks Cindy
  3. Part of this story is also that the car has been in a barn for 5 1/2 yrs. It will start by spraying carb. cleaner into the carb. but it will not stay started. We took off the filter and tried to start the car. No fuel came out of the pump.
  4. We purchased a dl, we think it needs a new fuel pump. How do you know if it is fuel injected or not? Where does it say, other than on the engine?
  5. We bought an 86 gl at an auction today. The car has not been driven for 5 1/2 yrs. We jumped the battery, tried to start the car, wouldn't turn over. Put gas in, it would start by priming it by pouring a little gas into the carb. but then would die. Any ideas?
  6. Well the husband and mechanic won. The car is being fixed at the mechanic. They said the engine was locked. We are putting in a reconditioned engine. Total cost, right at 1200. Ouch! They can't tell us why it might have locked.
  7. Ok, I'm back. We tried to see if we could move the pulley, it didn't move. It's at the mechanic, talked to him today. He tried to move it also. But, did not check the belt. Was going to check the belt this afternoon. He wondered if the belt could have gotten wrapped around the pulley somehow. Will let you know.
  8. Thanks! We will try this evening. We'll let you know. My husband is threatening mechanic and I don't want to spend big bucks.
  9. But, why would it have "just died" as the prior owner was driving it?
  10. We recently purchased a 92 loyale. The guy said it died on his way home from work and wouldn't restart. The timing belt is not broken, the battery is charged, the starter tries to start it (clicking). My husband tried to bump start it, that did not work. Any ideas what in the world could be wrong with this? Thanks!
  11. We just recently purchased a 92 Loyale. The guy we bought it from said he was on his way home from work and the car died on him and would try to start but wouldn't. The mechanic who looked at it was not a Subaru mechanic. He said that the engine was seized. We have been told by friends that you can sometimes take off the heads and put oil on the pistons and work the engine and loosen the pistons. Anyone heard of this before? Or should we just have the engine overhauled or a used engine?
