ATTN: Colorado Subes!
dave valiant replied to DrKrazy's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Hey Eyesore its good to know you are still alive.I will be attending this meet, but not in the Brat though.I burned up the tranny on a certain minimum maintenence road in Iowa:lol: ,perhaps you know it.I'm gonna be bringing my video camera to this one.I brought it to MWM2 and tried to shoot while I was driving.I got some great action shots of my dashboard and roof.Better luck this time. -
drivers side lower control arm swap
dave valiant replied to dustyrider's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You should be able to use one off of any EA81 car. -
I don't know why they wouldn't.The dash in my 84 wagon parts car looks identical to the one in my 84 Brat except for the boost gauge.Should work.Dave.

How much for my subaru???
dave valiant replied to mase18's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I could sell that car here for $1000.00 easy. It's all about location.I just got an 88 2wd GL wagon for$300.00 and it has rust. This part of the country that price is a real good deal but in the north west you probably couldn't give it away.Dave. -
Clutch cable help please
dave valiant replied to dave valiant's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks Tim.I will anxiously await those pics.Baccaruda,I don't see a return spring on the clutch fork(did you send my wheels yet).I'm not sure if there are any clutch problems internally.I just got the car a couple of months ago from the Chef. When I got it the cable that was on it had 100,000 miles on(how much is the shipping) and was on its last leg.I pulled the new cable off after I posted this an inspected it.I dont see any fraying near the mounting plate which is where the last one broke at.I am using Sube dealership cables.Maybe I got a dud the first time but I don't think so. *The subliminal messages are intended for Baccaruda only. Dave. -
I have an 88 gl wagon 2WD 5 speed. The clutch cable snapped on me so I got a new one and installed it.One month later the new one snapped.I have read how very important properly routing the clutch cable is,so I was very careful to route the new one exactly the same.I got another cable and installed it on Saturday.I can already feel it stretching which I am assuming is very very bad.I will go through just how I installed it.First I removed the old cable and routed the new one the same way. Then I pulled the clutch pedal off and connected the new cable to the clutch pedal.I reattached the pedal and attached the cable to the clutch fork, then I adjusted it.Did I do something wrong to have this problem? Please help.Dave.

Oh yeah.Miles Fox beat me for the farthest traveled at midwest meet 2.I think I've got it in the bag at this one:lol: .If you are ever gonna be in the Rapid City area just pm me and we could get together.I enjoy meeting board members, especially brat owners. We rule.Dave. -

I would think it would be normal. You have increased your rotating mass so it has to work harder to get moving.Looks good though.Dave. -
how to tell it's an RX?
dave valiant replied to LUVMYBRAT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have a friend who has an 85 RX.There were no markings anywhere on the car and at the time had no idea if it was an RX or a 4 door turbo so I posted the VIN and Dr.RX told me that it was.So I would say post the VIN and see if he can identify it for you.Imho it sounds like an RX to me,but what do I know?Dave. -

That sounds great. The Crazy Horse hike is called the volks march and even though the mountain is only an hour from my house I have managed to miss every single one.Not because I wanted to either,I just always miss it.Thanks for the reply,Dave. -
I don't know why you wouldn't want a turbo if you are off roading, espacially if you are gonna be in mud?Going through mud you want to keep your wheels spinning and my experience is that with the turbo spooled up you dont loose rpm.My turbo Brat got me out of the midwest meet mess and it is an auto(which really sucks and will be changed) and on street tires with half the tread left on them. There were alot of nonturbo cars left in that mess.Just my $.02,Dave.

MAF is mass air flow.Map is manifold absolute pessure.Your car doesn't have either one,but I agree tell Mr. Knowitall it was the MAP sensor.

The 18th-19th would work for me.If you want to attend let Drkrazy know what dates would work best for you so we can get this rolling.Dave. -
Has the gas in the tank been there for 5 years? If it has, white smoke is normal. If this is your problem you could pull the tank and flush itor do it the lazy man way and just fill the tank and let it run.It is much better to flush it out though. If this isn't the case listen to Miles.Dave.

If there is any off-roading going on I'd need to find someone to ride along with.I would come down in my 2wd wagon since Midwest Meet 2 killed the auto in my Brat and she is in for a major redoing. -

I'm 6-7 hours away and I am looking for a good reason to make a trip down to Colorado.I know Shawn just moved there and I do believe Eyesore is there as well.Has any one heard from Eyesore lately,I haven't seen him on the board recently.Sundays work best for me. -
You should check and see if your throttle cable needs adjusted. The 88 TBI wagon I just got from Chef_Tim had alot of slop in the throttle cable.I could push the pedal down a little and it wouldn't increase rpm so i adjusted the cable and it responds much better. It could be frayed inside the sleeve and that is why it binds.I would check the slop before I replaced it.Dave

the Summer project is just about done...
dave valiant replied to PeterD's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Man that is nice.I am always blown away by the rust free wagons you west coast guys have.If the wheel wells are only half covered with rust its pretty clean by SD standards.Dave -
Sheet of Plywood hits my soob on the freeway
dave valiant replied to subieman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That really sucks man.I work at a sawmill/lumberyard and it is amazing how stupid some people really are.I have had customers in Ford Rangers come in to buy 2x6x16' boards with no tie downs or ratchet straps and sak me "do you think that will ride not being tied down".How can someone not grasp that if you have a 6' bed and you want to haul 16' boards the 10' sticking out of the truck will not stay in.I hope you find that ignorant SOB.He could have killed you because he was to cheap or stupid to buy a $2.00 ratchet strap.
