gas guzzler
dave valiant replied to MiNoahsPinkMartini's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Have you tried the basic tuneup stuff? My Brat's mileage was way down before I did plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, and air filter. After I did all that my mileage went back to normal.Give it a shot if you haven't done it already. -
I just got my ebay intercooler and my our world is flat shirt. Its like christmas in march except I actually got what I wanted.Oops, sorry I'm rambling.I was wondering if silicone hose is the way to go when hooking up my intercooler?Any one know if I could get something like that at Napa?

Just got mine today and it is absolutely amazing.I should have ordered 2 because this one will be worn out in no time. -
Thats what happened to me this morning.I was going to work just fine and it sputtered and bogged and quit.It took me half an hour to drive two miles to a buddy's house, and I had to push it the last block.I got off work and put the stock one back on and vroom.I only had that coil on my car for three weeks!I'm gonna take it back and get it replaced put it back on and hope it doesn't leave me stranded again.

My Accell took a dump.I put the stock coil back on and she fired right up.No hesitation or sputter. It does kinda suck though, the throttle response isnt nearly as good. Thanks for the suggestions and help guys.USMB for life!

Just today while going down the Interstate my Brat stumbled a little and then ran normally. When I say stumbled I mean it lost power and when I gave it more throttle it stumbled worse. It has happened a couple of times again today but it always happened while I was moving.I was dropping a buddy of mine off and it quit at a stoplight and didnt want to start up again. It finally started and was able to limp it down the road and it all of a sudden cleared up and ran fine.It did it one more time right after I left his house and then drove home no problems. It did feel like there was a slight drop in power and if my fuel gauge is reading correctly I've gone 90 miles on a quarter tank of fuel which is way better economy than I have ever gotten before.I recently did the plugs, 8mm wires, cap, rotor, accell coil, fuel filter, and air filter and it has been running great until tonight. This is on my 84 Turbo Brat.If anyone can help me I would be eternally greatful.Thanks,Dave.

I think it is both just so long your idea of fun isn't offensive.I personally am very hard to offend, but I do my best not be offensive here just because so many people look at it.

Put the car in 4 wheel drive and see if it moves when you try to take off.On my 84 wagon I had a similar problem. Turns out the splines on the shaft had chewed the splines on the brake disk and the shaft was spinning inside the smoothed out disk.I put it in 4X4 and drove it home.

MPG of various models ????
dave valiant replied to mtsfabman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I get 20-22 MPG in my Turbo Brat.My drive to work is mostly uphill all the way and when I'm in town I usually put my foot in it at stoplights to get it moving (damn auto trans)but I can get out of the gas once I hit about 3000 RPMs. -

I don't suppose any of these parts will work on an EA81-T? -
I have heard that the Ea82-t intakes are better than the EA81-t intake. Is this true?If so will an EA82-t work on anEA81-t?I've been bitten by the upgrade bug and am trying to get as much info together as possible.Oh yeah do the injectors flow more on the EA82-t and will they work on an EA81-t.Thanks.Dave.

I did the accel,8mm wire tune up and have noticeable improvements.I just went out to see if my top end had increased and it did by 2MPH.I am running 185-80-13's on my brat which is taller than stock so my speedo is off.Does anyone know of a site that has a conversion chart?I did a search and got nothing. Thanks or the help.Dave. Thanks for heads up. I'll e-mail wjm.

Ouch that thing sound worse than my Brat. From the reading your description it sounds like a parts car.If you think the parts on it are worth $300 maybe it's not such a bad deal. But if I were going to buy it I would offer $150 and not go over $200.This is my often misguided opinion. USMB for life!

I am considering getting a regrind cam for my Brat and had a few questions. Can you get a cam reground to increases lift and duration? If you can get both increased do you need different lifters?Anyone out there ever put 9.5to1 pistons in an EA81T. I was thinking of going to 8.5to1 and a friend of mine is convinced that my engine would be fine if I went higher to 9.5to1.Any help would be seriously appreciated.Dave.

ignition switch or hot wire?
dave valiant replied to snowstormer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
All you need to do to disable the steering lock is to pull out the little spring in the wheel lock. Now the only reason I know this is that my first Subaru's key broke off in the ignition while I was delivering pizza a few years ago. I needed to get on the road so I started tearing things on the column apart to get to the ignition switch. Once I got it started and moving I realized that I couldnt steer,so I found the lock and popped the little spring out. Disclaimer. This information is not intended to help anyone steal a car.It is intended to help those with bad key and lock assemblys on thier Subarus to be able to drive said vehicle. -
ignition switch or hot wire?

Just remove the plastic off of the bottom fo the colum, take out the key tumbler and use a screw driver to turn the switch. -
My buddy has an 85 RX with a slipping clutch and was wondering if he could get a heavy duty unit for his car.I thought I had seen someone here post that an XT6 clutch could be used on an RX with the 5 speed d/r. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

I finally got a super coil. All I can say is wow. I can't believe the difference it made in upper RPM acceleration and throttle response.I also replaced my 7mm wires with a set of 8mms,new NGK plugs gapped to.50,cap,rotor,fuel filter, air filter, and oil change. My Brat had a tune up about a year and a half ago so I didn't have a bunch of really old stuff on it, but it really moves a whole lot better with less pedal required.I'm gonna go on Ebay and look for an intercooler for it.I think I've been bitten by the bug. No travel is advised for the Rapid City area but that didnt stop me from going drift bustin in the Brat.My wifes 98 Cherokee wouldnt even start. Once i got it running I took the Brat out. Right behind me was a 2' drift about 6' long I just stuck it R and sh*tcanned it and went right through spent about a half an hour after that driving around the trailer park. I got no work today and all this snow gotto go play some more.

My buddy has what he thinks is an 85 RX.It had been repainted before he got it and the title just says Subaru L.Heres the vin # JF2AC5689FE261089. Can anyone out there tell me if it is an RX by the vin number. USMB for life

I didnt even think to get the vin. I'll try to remember that tomorrow. It doen't have p/s.

A guy I work with has an 85 Sube,I asked him if that is an RX and he told me he didnt know. He said the title states the it is a Subaru L.There aren't any badges on the car itself but it is a 4 door sedan with an EA82T,5 speed d/r,lsd,and it has the cool checker board interior. Is that sound like an RX? I unfortunately have never seen an RX so I am not sure what they look like. Please help this ignorant fool. USMB for life
