  1. I removed the head liner in mine and installed wxr seats as low and far back as possible. I am 6'2 only bad thing is to mount the seats low all the forward and back adjustment stuff has to be removed. So its fixed seating. Left the stock steering wheel -daniel
  2. I took off almost all the emissions stuff. However the little vacume block thing in front of the carbon is need for the stock carbon to work right. I can send u a pic of my setup if you would like.
  3. The problem is that the metal for the shifter shaft (the one that goes into the transmission) is made of a too soft metal. I drilled and tapped a small hole to "lock" the sleeve thing on the shaft with a small bolt. Some on the board have welded it. Note that it needs to be fixed, my shifter would hit the side of the trans housing before I could get into reverse. I put 30k miles on my brat a year. Fix has worked done for over a year. -daniel
  4. I think u will like the load leveler shock. One note however is that u will have to create a new top bracket like I did as the shock wont reach the stock location up top. I have a drawing to give to a fab shop if u need it. Also what I did to get the shock in the correct position ( travel length wise) it to let suspension hang (top of shock disconnected ), then jack up suspension about 1/4" or so and install the top mount for the shock. This should be( if all my math was correct) the correct position for the travel length of the Monroe shock I used. And the shock will bottom out before the torsion bar on either side is over stressed. Tell me if u want some more pics or need dimensions or anything. Oh and post some pics of your rig... want to see it.
  5. Yes, get the bar and all the rubber out. It will mount on stock bottom shock location with the rubber and nuts from the old shock. The load levelers work great for towing as it doesn't let the rear end come down to far.
  6. With the monroe shocks u have to cut out all the rubber. And it will work. Tell me if u need pics.
  7. OK, Awkard situation this weekend. Was driving to work on the highway, I noted a change in the Tranmission sound (not a failure or something broken sound, but a change from the normal sound.) So I pulled over immediately into the grass on the side of the highway, Transmission oil is leaking out (not really fast but fast enough) So i Filled up the trannie quickly and turned around to come home, Stopped at a familiar place to check again. Trannie was gushing. a Bolt or something is missing. (anyway got it home after clogging the hole) Transmission is a AFAIK 1980 model Brat 4WD 1600 EA71. There is a small hole in the rear just in front of the transmission cross member, driver side. I also have a drive train from a 1978 brat, this hole does not exist in the 78 transmission! Can someone identify on their brat what goes in this hole??? a Bolt? I need some help as the Subaru dealers here don't have any information. Please see the pics here: http://s1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa331/danrenfroe2016/ The hole is smooth and about 3/8" dia or so. Any suggestions? I need something to put in this hole so i can drive again! Thanks. -Daniel
  8. WOW, Ok i am going to swap mine out.. I still got the rubber thing... -Daniel
  9. Cool. Also i have the part numbers for the longer brake lines somewhere. Just gota find them. -Daniel
  10. OK, here is the part i used: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=294387 Part number is Monroe 58270 ST. This shock is a front shock made for a big OLDS from the 70s or 80s, cant remember the exact car now, but it does really well on the rear of the brat. I had my fab shop build this bracket for me and installed as shown in this picture as the travel is correct but the overall length is not with the lift. Oh and YES SNOW / ICE is Awesome, even in Dallas, I pulled out several full size pickups that were spinning and stuck on the curb on the ice with the little brat. people could not believe that my little brat with 67 HP could move there big bloated trucks and without slipping! Here is my FUN ice Video: pic one http://img850.imageshack.us/i/cimg0463u.jpg/ Pic two http://img28.imageshack.us/i/cimg0464b.jpg/ All progress Photos: Also I have a drawing for the steel shock mount if you want it. email me at (my USMB user name) @gmail.com -Daniel
  11. wow, all i can say is CLEAN! i would slot one set of holes slightly, then bolt everything up and leave the slotted holes slightly loose, let the car down and see how it sits... Looks like its going to be great. Oh and for the Rear suspension, I will upload a pic or two of my setup, I used some monroe load leveler shocks from some olds that was in the monroe book, found a shock with same travel as original brat, different length though. They sure help when the rear is loaded down or pulling my brat trailer, they give just 200# push each when the load is heavy and help keep the rear from squatting, although it does not increase the carry capacity, it sure makes the car look better when loaded... -Daniel
  12. Talldude, Please post a picture of your problem as I am kinda confused. Also there will be some play in the whole front end setup as that is a lot of bolt holes. Also I found That I had to slot one set of holes on one side only slightly (about .25" or so as I didn't want to bend and put a torque on the frame or the transmission, .25 inches won't do anything bad to the geometry of the motor / trans. Also make sure nothing is backwords. -Daniel
  13. Yes, I was considering, but it dosent seam like it would do enough fo the sound, I really aim to put a cd deck back in. I will see if I have a picture of the floor that was in the caprice, was great stuff.
  14. Yes, mine is LOUD as well, cant use radio. I used to own a 94 Caprice 9C1 Police car. It has this awesome rubber floor, it was installed just like the carpet would be in the non-police setup. I haven't looked yet, but hope to find something similar for the brat that I can make. It was very heavy black textured rubber, very durable and radio sounded fine in the car. It had some kinda pad underneath as well. -Daniel
  15. I recently remade my shifter boots with synthetic leather, they work great and are so much better than the rubber. However I have a yard of material. I have material to make probably 15 more of them. I sew them my self. If you need some email me at (my user name at gmail.com) or reply to the post. I can do two segment (what i have) three segment and four segment styles.Thanks. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/26/boot1iv.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/694/boot2d.jpg/ Oh and yes... Next is floor covering! any ideas for inexpensive rubber floors? -Daniel
  16. was amazing fun huh? and thanks. I sure hope we get another shot at it next year as well. It makes all the cold worth it. But i am ready for spring now, Its too COLD! -Daniel
  17. Yes, the first day was perfect, it was melted together sleet, so ice was rough like sand paper. could do awesome drifts on long sweeping curves with great control... Second day got slick and Friday was awesome, slick ice under about 1-4" of snow!!! was so fun... And I used the old Apple imovie HD on a Macmini G4 PPC (1.25ghz), That little machine takes about 1 hour to encode 10 min of DVD time, but it comes out with great results... Filmed the first part with a Sony super digital 8 (12 bit stereo sound!!!) and the snow part on a little fuji digital camera in VGA mode (crappy sound)
  18. Thanks... yes it was loads of fun... Brat was made for this. I loved pulling the full size trucks off the ice and back to flat ground where at least they had a chance of moving. My brat would spin all 4 tires and slowly pull them out without breaking a sweat (even up hill, pulled a jeep libery about 100 yards up a large hill on josey lane). It was so crazy slick!
  19. Had amazing weather in Dallas this last week! Was soooo Much fun. My Little brat turned from one of the slowest cars in Dallas to the fastest in Town. Pulled out Three Chevy full size pickup, a dodge ram, a crappy minivan and a Jeep liberty.... The video is a lame video of me driving my brat around and at the end a good snow drift in a parking lot! -Daniel
  20. Short Video, Snow lasted like 6 Hours... :-( I am hoping for ICE soon, want to do some drifts. I love the 4" Lift! -Daniel
  21. That is a great idea! wow, Will have to see how it holds up (I dont have a rust problem in my main brat (Texas) but my trailer brat is rusted bad..., I will try this... Where did you get the vinyl? -Daniel
  22. Yes, it's not to bad, just get help for front, I was able to complete the rear lift by my self. The front is tricky. -Daniel
  23. Thanks Oleman77, It's a good kit, Used 14" pugs with 195/65R14. There is several good tires available in this size. No offroad tires though. I am going to make my own soon. It could defntally use larger size tires as far as looks go, but this size is more practical as I can still climb very steep grades and it's not too slow with this tire size there is a 14" BFG mud tire but it's 27" and it would get into the rear suspension.
  24. Its lifted More Pics: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=100340&id=1344730058&l=d53631b3b2 4" lift, Gen II Vented disk brakes, new Axles up front, NEW load leveler shocks on the rear with custom top mounts
  25. Confirmed... As i read other places on the boards... FRONT GEN 1 HUBS + Gen 2 Caliper, Gen 2 Disks and Gen 2 hoses work great on the Gen 1... Feels much better. -Daniel
