OK, Stupid question. I am making Franken brakes for the front of my newly lifted 80 brat. Using GEN 1 Knuckle - Gen 2 Rotor, Gen 2 Caliper and Gen 2 dust metal thing... OK DUMB question... In the Gen 2 calipers I received from subaru Heaven, There are very small metal bushings that were on the INNER Pad Tabs, WIth these small metal pieces, the new pad would not fit in the tab grooves, with out the small metal pieces the pad fit perfectly... So I guess these little pieces are NOT needed??????? See my pics below... http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/7879/cimg0181a.jpg http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/1501/cimg0182.jpg http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/8286/cimg0183.jpg http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/5921/cimg0184z.jpg Ok, also is there any other problem with using the Gen 1 Knuckle with the Gen 2 rotor and caliper???? I cant see any other problems except for minor brake line work and such... And I allready have new Gen 1 Ball Joints... Thanks for the help... -Daniel

OK, found the Pictures.... This is what enabled me to get my car running properly (took about three months...) Todd's Wagon pictures. ALso note that the little aluminum "hub" at the bottom of the carb probably is full of gunk... mine was totally full. easy to clean. Todd is the only reason my car is up and running.... Oh and dont give up!!! Its an amazing engine / car.... its more reliable than my 92 Mercury Grand Marque! and my old 94 Caprice 9C1! http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=67617&id=1344730058&l=a8114a81a2 Photos are in the link above... Others may have better pictures as its really hard to figure out!!!!, Also i eliminated a lot of stuff like the canister and all the AIR crap... Oh and I modified a webber air box as I got so tired of oil getting blown into on on the carb by the stupid hoses from the valve covers... -Daniel -

Ok the trailer works great.... It is NOT bouncy and pulls great... Brat pulls it great as well... But would not pull with brat in rain with a heavy load..... as the two front tires would have a fun time stopping this.... Hauled a lot of office equipment in it..... its really great... Picture Attached! And yes... I need more than two lugs on the wheel.... working on that... need studs... -Daniel -

Oh this may or may not be the trouble, but check the choke and the little temperature spring thing on the side of the carb that trigers hi-idle and such. I just disconnected the hi-idle / choke and such... Does much better (As i could never get to work right), I just baby the engine with my foot for the first 1-2 min after starting until warm... ALSO make sure your vacuum advance / retard is hooked up right.... as I gained a lot of power when i finally got that working right... I have a picture of the sticker that goes under the hood that shown correct hose locations that I took of Todds (Subaru3s) car. I will try to find it and post it. -Daniel -
How to identfy ea71 transmssion
danrenfroe2016 replied to danrenfroe2016's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
According to http://www.indysworld.com/80s/ the gear ratio page says that the 1979 transmission has lower ratio's than the 1980 and beyond transmissions. i want to confirm what transmissions I have, because a first gear difference of 4 to 3.6 is like a 10% difference. Decal tags???? Were would this be placed??? Cant find anything on transmission. Thanks. May just have to turn the transmission and count the revolutions. -Daniel -

I just took mine out of the 78 brat for making a trailer.. Nte that the diff has to be removed afaik. That was actually easy except for the rusted axle splines that took sever days to get off. -daniel -

Now just need to make it legal and install the tool boxes. New Pictures!!!!!! http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=62206&id=1344730058&l=8e77b2653a -Daniel -
