  1. hope they get it fixed-up. "Infant Mortality" is a real effect with manufactured items and often, after the first glitches are taken care of, reliability settles down. if you think the issues are extreme, check into your State's Lemon Laws in case you need to make a claim. Subaru may just be in a hurry, I read they were down to 6 days of inventory.
  2. Grim, there will be quite a bit of suspension stuff available for the car. You might check out www.nasioc.com a tune may help a little, but the turbo cars can benefit most from tuning. at www.subaruoutback.com, there's a user west_minist that has tuned several folks' cars. he has a website, http://xtremeracingtuning.com/ if you want to mod for offroad, plenty of folks here could help with that.
  3. quick google search seems to support Ido's conclusion. Seems to be a JDM item?
  4. My WRX takes less, like maybe 17-19 or so...... Maybe that first data is Outback Sport????
  5. you can get several kinds of covers......youtube videos that will even show you how to do 'real' upholstery replacement.
  6. look for split CV boot. That grease is smelly, more so if slung onto the exhaust. GL5 is the most smelly fluid, really stink do, possible front diff, manual trans I guess....?
  7. symptoms may not fit well but, you might check for a broken half-axle. and, you need to check AT fluid while idling. some folks forget that and underfill the trans.
  8. OK, most of the symptoms you mentioned match a well known issue with that generation. There can be a 'flare' when accelerating at highway (actually, fairly high speeds in my experience - 75+) speeds. as a test, try a battery disconnect reset (write down your radio presets, disconnect the battery overnight, or, disconnect, step on the brake pedal, wait 10-15 minutes w'ever, reconnect. Do this just before a road trip, or other highway usage. If it helps the issue, it is typical for that generation. If not, you may have some other problem. Years ago, I posted about this with my 03. It was already a known problem. The TC will unload, then there's a downshift flare before the lower gear engages, then BAM, it can be terrifying. Can't be good for the drivetrain either. After I learned about it, always did the reset before road trip. I dunno how often , or if ever, you will need to do it if you are always driving at extreme highway speeds. you may of course have a different problem.
  9. evidently,... some special stuff with a high coefficient of thermal expansion. I think there are some greenhouse vents that can automatically open using some similar stuff.
  10. 2-3 ideas Automatic? you have a FWD fuse selection slot under the hood.Use that with mismatched tires. check ebay, craigslist, etc. for a used tire the same model as your other 3 and near them in wear. have a new tire shaved down to the average of the wear of the other 3 If you DO NOT have a viscous rear diff, buy 2 tires but run them on opposite corners of the car.
  11. I think the larger wax capsule 'may' be part of the 'magic' - perhaps for hysteresis reasons? - given that it hangs out in the wind to some degree(no pun intended).
  12. before handing this to the dealer, which may be best anyway, have you looked on Youtube for a video of the 'pairing' process?
  13. yeah, really doesn't seem like a sensor/ECU issue, seems like something more 'physical'. as said, triple check cam/crank timing. Locate the 'tooth count' for that engine. Bring the crank/cam marks to their 'belt install' positions and count the teeth between everything. Something may be a tooth off. Wonder if a 'dropped' valve guide could come-and-go??? maybe some odd vacuum leak comes-and-goes??? - maybe try some vacuum gauge readings - may have to rig a way to do that while revving/driving?
  14. not in your area, but welcome. These guys as well as some folks over at www.subaruoutback.org have helped me quite a bit. My '03 Outback has been passed-along to a family member but is still running every day.
  15. welcome aboard! check-out www.subaruoutback.org too - I am a former Outback owner, and have had great help from that and this Forum
  16. I could definitely see a shop not wanting to waste time trial fitting aftermarket hoses of questionable durability.
  17. take care of your cooling system, tires, and timing belt system and you should be good for a long time!
  18. 5 days,,,,, that should be past the monitors completing . Still, you could have other maintenance to 'catch-up' on. Keep an eye out for issues and maybe scan for pending codes in a few more days to be sure. anyway, fingers crossed.
  19. could be they used a 'generic' photo but, could have also been a disappointment to get the wrong shape completely. I have had to trim a coupla aftermarket hoses too.
  20. some WRX aftermaket stuff may fit on the car so, should be able to make it corner flatter and tighten-up suspension. Car likely needs struts anyway so, line-up some springs and other bits for it. sounds like you might want a slight lift??? although pricey, rims can add a lot of personalization to a car. make sure to keep your tires all the same brand/size/model/wear to protect the AWD. Keep the cooling system in top shape and make sure the timing belt system has been properly serviced with Japanese parts. overheating, mismatched tires and broken timing gear will kill a Subaru quickly.
  21. I think I bought a Lisle similar to above in the past, lol, can't remember where I put it....no teeth though, everything is better with TEETH lol
  22. fantastic - please share the name and location of the shop, could help someone in th future.
