XT6 Transmision onto 3.0R engine
1 Lucky Texan replied to nazvwxt6's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have no power mods on my WRX and zippered 2nd gear smooth - under 75k miles(but, plenty of spirited driving and rev-matched decel). Many people have lost 3rd gear in the 5 speeds.....I've read the case is weak/flexes ? that said, I think the 06-up 5spds got a little better 1st gear synchro.... -
if it seems too big, look at a Forester - or maybe Crosstrek ? My wife is itching to buy herself a new car - maybe a Mazda - but, even though we really have zero need for 3 cars, I REALLY don't want to sell either of my cars. The WRX makes no sense to keep other than I LOVE driving it, the Outback is starting to squeak groan somehwere in the rear so I know more rubber is going bad.... plus, It's harder for me to crawl around under them....Outback is needing quite a bit of refreshing, and the WRX I know is a ticking time bomb.....

yeah, read 2-3 times of folks using WindoWeld to make/repair bushings - even 1 or 2 youtube vids on that I think. -
maybe use a 1.5 or even a 9v volt battery to see if you can force the gauge to change at all??? weird

legacy spec B 6-speed would be awesome -
In one test I read, 50:50 acetone and ATF worked better than 3-4 fluids sold as penetrating oil !

Numbchux, from what I have read (no experience) sand can be challenging if you have the wrong tires or have too much tire pressure? -
I gave some very wild ideas on the other forum but here, I wonder if the 'dogbone'/pitch stop bushings could do that?

you can use a multimeter to monitor 'dark current' while pulling fuse to pin-down the offending system. any work, wrecks, mods to the car before this began? (electronics plugged in, new head unit, dash cam or ???) -

DANG! so awesome. is that a caster adjustment you modified? also, I don't see you using the 'alternate' hood prop in any of the pics. You can move it to the xtra hole on the piece on the pass side strut tower. I THINK on some older models, you also flip the rod over.....? I used it on my WRX when I pulled the TIC.

is the car new to you? tires all the same? size/brand/model? they need to be, also near each other in wear. does the smoke from the exhaust smell like coolant? (sweet-ish, like toasted marshmallows.) or fuel or? is coolant level OK? ALWAYS check the radiator for actual coolant volume anytime there is even a hint of a problem. The overflow bottle does need to be maintained near it's normal level, but is a risky indicator of coolant volume. how does the trans fluid look? many folks have trans issues get better with fresh fluid. Doing 3 drain/fill cycles, with maybe a little driving in between, gets you around 85% new fluid. any dents in the trans pan? does the car car jerk/buck in tight circles on dery pavement in the same way regardless of FWD fuse use?

is this car new to you? are all 4 tires exactly the same? same brand/model/size and near each other in wear? They need to be. if tires are the same, and, if you are saying your car DOES exhibit this; that is, turns smoothly in tight circles when stone cold, but, jerk-y/bucks/'holding back' in tight circles on dry pavement when warmed-up, that can often mean the center diff is bad.
