If the ECU responds to that knock sensor by drastically pulling the timing, it will make the car very sluggish and likely be detrimental to mileage. On some engines, care must be taken to route the cable/connector in the same ways as the original knock sensor. There is a lump in the casting that can lead to cracking a knock sensor if it isn't oriented correctly. maybe it took 500 miles to break?

i'm just guessing but, don't Subaru and Nissan both use JATCO trans? seems like there is a good chance something would bolt-up. But, I realize also, the trans could easily be built to incompatible specs.... nasioc.com could be a good source for you to check out. Search and read before posting as there's always a coupla folks there ready to attack a noobie it seems.

the only place I've used other than the dealer and myself (well, when I was ill I farmed-out some regular maintenance a coupla times to a generic shop) is AWD Tuning off Justin road in Flower Mound. I'd say they are highly skilled. If you have a conversation with them, do ask about scheduling and time required to complete any work - other than the time they kept it, the work done on my WRX's transmission (ate 2nd gear) was fine - affordable too.

yeah, brake upgrades may require a swap to larger rims too for caliper clearance. probably some good info at nasioc.com - just, search and read before asking questions as there's always 1 or 2 snarky types over there.
