  1. Simple answer I Own one and love it i to was a toyota fan and still am but the toyota is not nearly as unreliable as the outback.
  2. Thankyou to all who have contriduted on the above subject not that you solved my problem directly but i got ideas as to how to fix it. My 97 outback EJ25 auto started using excess fuel about 1 year ago and slowly got worse to the point i was using 14liters per hundred Ks. (you convert) I could not find anything wrong and the problem remained after changing the motor after a blowen head gasket. I fixed or changed the following with minimal improvment. Injectors, Airflow sensor,PCV,O2,Fuel filter,Checked for blocked exhaust, air filter, fuel press regulator, plugs, leads, coil, and finaly the knock sensor and its now back to 10LPH or so. What i believe happened is the knock sensor slowly gained or lost resistance and could no longer detect Knock and so the ECM ran the engine at base timing in other words retarded the timing this meant i had to use more foot to get the slug to go thus more fuel. So go forth all you fuel guslers and change the knock sensor and come celebrate with me in the great land down under. anyone for a BBQ and beer.
  3. Can somone tell me how to check for a fault code on a 97 outback EJ25 auto. is this something i can do at home? where can i find a list of what each code means. Thanks in advance. Gillans used to drive a Mitsubishi Canter 4wd now had to downsize. Is that a bad thing?I DON'T THINK SO.
  4. I know how you feel i have the same model and get the same fuel consumtion. changed o2 sensor and it made a good differance to performance but not much change to the fuel. I'm thinking of not looking at the fuel gauge any more to see if i feel better.
  5. HI everyone out there ivé just joined this site to enjoy the pleasure of other suburu owners. I own a 97 outback 2.5 with 170000ks on it and the head gasket went ivé just put a japanise import motor in it. I find it hard to belive that it is cheaper to do this than rebuild the heads. Has anyone else found this problem or am i just the unlucky one. Having said this it was a very simple job to change them over took around 8 hrs all up and i wasn't sweating.
