  1. I will have to pick that up. I have always loved the idea of a Gia with 300+ HP.
  2. Very little. It is in the garage now on stands. My father in law passed away and we have been busy with family matters, helping out with my mother in law and such and that comes first. It is delaying the project but not forever, work will resume soon!
  3. One fellow in Oz did just that and it came out nice. I don't know if the ER27 would fit without lift but I suspect it might. With a 6 inch body lift the ER27 fit in mine with enough room to handle the radiator.
  4. They aren't the only folks in that line of work, but the idea remains the same. 500Hp from certain Subie engiens is not such a big deal and 500~800 is and has been done.
  5. Look at the heads of the valve cover bolts, are they scored at all? Look at the underside of the engine and see if the grime, such as it may be, and see if the gaskets are different. Look at the items you know would have been removed such as the intake manifold, exhaust manufold etc. for scoring on the bolts. Factory assembly seldom leaves marks on the bolts but most work does, not always, but if you see that it has clearly never been removed you know. Sometimes you see random paint marks (usually white) or rarely thread locker, look for those to be intact or broken.
  6. The assumption made was that an ER27/EA81 was in that XT6, it was not. However at one time, prior to the Xwife DUI-ing it headon I DID have an XT putting down serious power. Not that different of a build than what Rigoli ran on his BRAT. I decided to move on and build the BRAT that I built instead of replicating the XT, for a daily driver I have the STI which although it may be a but shy on HP compared to the XT it has much much more finese and daily driveability. You can choose to dispute it, I have had people including a Subaru service manager tell me that you can't lift a BRAT 12 inches and run 33s. I have had people tell me that my Porsche is faster and handles better than my STI. None of that changes reality, I walked out the door of the Subaru parts counter and got into that BRAT. I pulled away from that other Porsche owner's car like he was in reverse. And I will build yet another 600+ HP subie engine and run it in the Lambo that is already in my garage being built. If there is anything I can say, I have proven I don't bench race and mods planned, I build what I say I will.
  7. Settle down Beavis..... I have said many times that mid-200s is the limit for ER27s. There is a whole world of Subaru beyond here where 600Hp is not unusual. My daily driver STI dyno'd out at 463Hp and that is pretty ho-hum. Agile just put down 504 at the wheels with the 2Ltr not two weeks ago. And no not $600, were talking real money for that sort of power.
  8. Some of you old school folks that have emailed and PMd me this is the event you asked for. The new school folks that are coming are old school fans as well. Date to be posted by the end of the weekend.
  9. One of the best changes you can make is your pedal ratio. I changed mine via the fulcrum point and along with the 84+ vented rotors and EBC pads it stops fairly well.
  10. Yes, it fits with work and is a great engine. I would suggest the 2Ltr turbo though with the 5 spd. WRX engines and trannys, domestic and imported, are cheap and pleantiful and will give you the same power as the EG33 with less weight, easier install and a simple upgrade to 280Hp via ECU flash and exhaust.
  11. I only saw two plug caps on the cyl head that was visible in the photo describing it as a 2.7. I didn't see any mention of a flat6, which car had that description?
  12. Yes I can, I built one at just over 600. A similar but much more modern and driveable build is going into the lambaroo. Take a look at the photo from the rear and blow it up in a photo program, the heads are EJ heads and assuredly not ER27 heads. I think it is a bored and sleaved then stroked 2.5Ltr.
  13. This will be sort of a cross section of Subaru folks and arcade collecting folks. I will be brewing up some of my own, the grill will be lit, and the jukebox will be booming. I am honestly not sure of an exact time but I want to do it before it gets too cold. I am thinking early/mid November. And since I want everyone to enjoy and get home safe crashing here is OK, just bring a sleeping bag. More details will follow and any suggestions are welcome. I am located in Bealeton VA, put 22712 into mapquest and get an idea of if you can make it. And if you can, please post so I can plan accordingly for food and such. The arcade will be OPEN. http://www.subarubrat.com/PICS/newarcade3.jpg http://www.subarubrat.com/PICS/newarcade.jpg
  14. "Yea...subarubrat...I just noticed that it looks like your front fender flare overlaps your front door!? any problems there? or does it look worse than it is." No problems, you just have a crecent "bite" out of the flare on the inside that the door swings into, I should snap a pic of it, very easy.
  15. The rears are a bit more limited but can be opened up to accomodate the top 1/3 of 33's so don't worry much about being able to open them up for anything less, with proper lift of course.
  16. The fronts you can really open up right to the limit of the rear corner.
  17. Subaru has produced several H6 engines. One of which, the ER27, I use in my BRAT and it is a VERY tight fit in a gen II. A dodge or jeep IL6 would make the problem of length of the engine even more of a nightmare.
  18. Let me try a different angle. I assume that you want to swap in a V6 for HP, figuring that an 8 was too big and heavy and a 6 would be a good match. The reason an EJ22 was suggested is because it is a Subaru motor that is known to fit and would give a similar result with less weight and is a better fit than a 6. As you know the engine is ahead of the front wheels, making a V6 a very tough fit if you intend on preserving the stock drivetrain layout. Now, I myself would suggest a Subaru 4 but not the EJ22 because although it is near double the stock HP, much more can fit in the same package. A WRX engine and tranny will adapt nicely and with a simple reflash your at 280 very reliable HP.
  19. I say do it. The reasons to predicting doom and gloom are overstated. There are more than a few V8 into small car swaps out there and all of them are less rhobust than the Subies, and they don't twist in half or what have you. Consider the Ford Focus or Mazda Miata swaps, they have both proven to be very practical. The other small cars that have a history of V8 swaps would never be able to endure the sort of stress that we place on them with our lift kits, mud tires and off road hammering. The EA81/82 platform is a fine starting point for a small car big engine buld. HOWEVER, you can't go into this cheap and half way. Just bolting in the engine to the crossmember and hooking up a prop shaft to the diff is NOT a proper swap. You need to distribute the load and stress to the shell in a proper way, that is the weak point, not the shell itself. You must have a proper subframe to locate the rear end and integrate it with the shell. Proper materials, proper engineering and proper planning will make this a jaw dropping success. Trying to stuff that engine into an unprepared shell will get you a rolling wreck. Bottom line is this is a $5000 job and not a $500 one.
  20. I myself don't have the background for that design work. However, my lovely wife happens to be a rocket scientist by way of Aeronautical Engineering and was at the top of her class at Embry Riddle. Where concept needs to be transfered to numbers and back again she can handle that much better than I.
  21. I haven't had much progress to show lately but that is due to the prep for the move which is happening this week, with the new garage and workshop things will take off quickly.
  22. Definatly go with the EJ series tranny. The Ea series held up in my BRAT for almost 5k miles, on some pretty tough use, but ultimatly was not up to the job at 250Hp and the 33x16 in. tires. Now, Your rally car would not run that kind of tires but the wheel spin and grip (mainly alternating between them) would hammer it allot as well. Your better off going with the EJ series it will work nicely at 240Hp and with all the nice gear sets out there and clutch options your good as far as your will ever go with your engine.
  23. As the only person I am aware of who actually put an EG33 into an XT, I will say this, Adam is right, it depends on the person doing the swap as to what difficult is. I can tell you that an EG33 will fit mated to a 5spd and there is still room left over to fit two up-pipes, two turbos, two ICs and two downpipes. So the short answer to your question is YES, it will fit. Whether or not it is easy to fit depends on your level of experience and resources (tools, fabrication, money etc.). I would not reccomend this as a first time engine swap because the fitment and routing are complicated by the tight fit. If you have never done a swap before you are much better off buying a JDM WRX motor and using a easy to hook up pre programed LINK ecu. Next up the ladder would be a WRX front clip, a little more involved in wiring but an easy fit. The EG33 is a great deal more difficult. If you have never done a swap before I would suggest going a bit simpler.
  24. Right on, I set one off with a 12v lead acid and it launched straight up a solid 30 ft in the air.
