  1. The page is UP! Please go to http://www.subarubrat.com/carslile.htm for details and status. If you think of anything that should be added, just say so! http://www.subarubrat.com/carslile.htm
  2. Freedom of speech is a real pain in the rump roast isn't it. For those of you who were not there, this alleged Bush display consisted of the two bumper stickers on my car that were there for months before and months after. There were no banners/flyers etc. I took no offense at the "Don't attack Iraq" what have you sticker on a bumper there and enjoyed my time just the same. I didn't think that it made the group look anti patriotic. I am not christian but the christian bumper sticker/fish symbol didn't make me feel like it was a church serivce. I will not scrape any bumper stickers off my car because someone else doesn't like it. And I would never ask anyone else to do the same. The American flag will fly from my roll bar just as it does at any show I attend. I make no apoligies for my beliefs and would never attempt to shame others, publicly or privatly, into doing so. And I will say so publicly on this point as well. You search any post I have ever made regarding Moosens and you will find I have always treated him with the utmost praise and regard as being a straight shooter and stand up guy. I have at times joked in a purely good nature about our political differences, but always with a smile and respect. If anyone has knowledge of an unkind word I have ever spoken of Moosens let them say so. I am sorry he has chosen this forum to attempt to bully me publicly. EDIT This year's "display" will consist of the following, after taking careful inventory of my vehicle. One Bush Cheny 04 sticker on the rear windshield, and one I support the troops type on the bumper. And two American flags on the roll bar. No hats, pins, pamphlets, shirts, flyers, banners etc. will be present. If the bumper stickers on my car or the American flag so offend you that you (who ever "you" may be) that you have to throw a tantrum and stay home, then stay home.
  3. The Reg page will be up tonight! I have recieved 1 registration other than my own via email. Without 25 we will NOT have a tent like last year, or a club area, we will be scattered all over the field. This time last year we had a dozen registrations already. Please go to the carlisle events website and register!!!
  4. It isn't THAT expensive. You can get white spoke wheels for about $30 each in the 15 inch 6 lug size, you can re drill the wheel yourself and some farm supply store mud tires for not much more than the 13s will run you. Some of the smaller sized Swampers and other brand named mudders are not that expensive.
  5. Moosens place is like the Batcave of Subarus, there are goodies around every corner and in every pile. He is true to his word and if you go you will see something(s) you can't live without.
  6. In my 04 STI I installed an Alpine head unit with MP3 and external line in and that covers me for XM and MP3/CD. The speakers are boston acoutics, they work great. I also bought a sub box (15 in) and mounted the amp on the back with a quick disconnect plug so I can pull the entire thing out as a unit for weight/cargo etc. issues.
  7. We have the Carlsile meet in may, check the meet and greet forum for more details. This meet is a blast and this is out second year. Take a look here for some pics. http://www.subarubrat.com/carslile.htm
  8. The 1999 Phase II and the 2000 and up have been very reliable both stock and under boost. There are tons of 2.5 RS Imprezas out there that have been running turbo kits for years now. Mine was at 150k miles at just over 300Hp when I sold it last year.
  9. 2nd gear can be broken at above 250Hp by slammming it just right. With sane shifting methods this tranny has been proven solid up to 300Hp.
  10. I am going to get that done soon, so far, only 3 registrations. Time to get those things pouring in!!!
  11. YES it will fit, but, first things first. What do you want out of the car, how do you use it?
  12. Curry's auto in Chantilly Va and a few other locations is OK in my book. BUT, learn to do it yourself!
  13. Sweet mother of tourqe where do I begin. I don't so much commute to work as I rally to work on a tarmac course. The STI with just a hair over 500Lb Tq explodes out of cornes, smoking all four briefly as I rotate and dissapear faster than a 12 second drag car can launch on a straight dry track. The flat four humms like the devil's own backup orchestra as I guide it from one turn to the next. The beast produces 180 Hp per Ltr compared to the Mustang's primitive 62.5 Hp per Ltr. And you know what? It will do it for the next 250K miles before I have an excuse to go just that much larger on a rebuild. (note) I love a classic mustang (or new one) nothing is like the sound of a V8 and watching the front hoist a foot in the air and the gravel shake. Much respect. But controlable power is a whole different world.
  14. I like the implementation of the struts, well done. The front end skid plate and guard looks very trick and overall it looks like it has allot of potential to turn out as a nice rig. Well done.
  15. I would say that they are definatly NOT in decline and if anything they are in a golden age that surpasses their early 80's success.
  16. True, you are upgrading the parts that let the engine make power, not the parts that make power. I for one don't understand the philosophy of limiting your vehicle to satasfy something you do a few days out of the year. I would say just build the car and disregard the catagory you are put in. You can always compare your runs against past runs to measure the impact of vehicle mods and personal skill.
  17. Just an FYI, the entry level mile marker 3000lb unit is the EXACT same unit as harbor freight.
  18. If you go with the available low height lifts and 29s, you could handle it well on your clutch for light off-roading. There are MANY very good aftermarket clutches intended for the Impreza that will hold up to abusive rally type use and would certainly solve your problem. I would encourage you to look into the Tcase option for the Forrester. With about 8 ~ 10 inches lift you could well work in the case and 32~33s. The stock 5MT is stronger than the prior generation trannys so I would take the time and effort to weld the center diff and convert it to rear output. Better yet, if you have the 4EAT auto that is a tough tranny and with a cooler would also be a great solution. Just beware that you will need to learn to weld to tackle this, of course you would be the only guy in the world with one.
  19. Be careful on your inlet choice, as shown many kits out now harm or have no effect on performance, the STI is very sensative on this matter. The K&N typhoon seems to be at or near the top of the heap. You can expect some improvement in low end toruqe from the new map, and be prepared to run the highest ocatane possible to max out your ignition curves. The problem with the boost mod limitation is that you can't fill in some of the "underboosted" parts of the curve for the real gains. Still, expect some increased responsiveness. Also, are you allowed exhaust changes? Ditching the up pipe cat makes a huge difference coupled with a large diameter turbo back exhaust.
  20. You do have the option of enlarging your wheel well openings and installing aftermarket flares. I use the ones for a 89 Toyota 4x4. Those are the cutout flares that give you the ability to really open up those wells. There are also smaller flares that you can get that would allow slighter trimming work.
  21. The 99 was about 13.5 gallons, the 04 STI is about 14.5 or so, I wish it was larger, I have to fill up soooo often.
  22. The RS is very proven under boost, I had a 99 I ran fro 150k miles at about 300Hp. With a turbo it isn't even the same car! For a good overall makeover starting point I would suggest: STI V5 struts and springs 22mm sway bar 12Lb flywheel STI motor and tranny mounts And as for the turbo, teh kits are all about the same, definatly go with an intercooler and if you want a nice safe kit pick about 7 PSI, that will get you string pull and the boost itself will be negligable when it comes to reliability. The key here is tuning tuning tuning. Don't get cheap on engine management. The "system" below will be good for all the way up to 12 PSI or so. And resist the urge to over-turbo, using too large of a turbo, the biggest turbo does not win. An EJ25 with a VF10 (legacy turbo) will feel almost like a larger naturally aspirated engine due to it's instant spooling. Apexi SAFC for fuel curve control J&S safeguard for ignition control and knock control 330cc RC injectors 255LPH fuel pump Boost and EGT gauges
  23. Meeky, take a look around on NASIOC, I have seen STI shortblocks going for less than that. I don't know that you will find an EJ22 block for a great deal less, but you might be able to get more for your money.
