  1. Go for the RX, swap in the ER27 from the XT6 and drop in WRX front struts and coil overs in the rear.
  2. I won't badmouth honda and toyota, they both build a great car and if not for Subaru I would probably be a toyota guy, mainly their older trucks and the Supra. My interests are not in aftermarket warranty support because in general I already have modification parts on hand before the new car arrives. I am not going to use a dealership for anything other than the rare part order. Even if something is warrantied like my security system door sensor that failed on the STI I would rather eat the cost and do the work myself than have them deny the warranty on the security system because of the turbo upgrades and have to fight them on that as well as risk them joyriding my car. So for me I don't care about followup care. What I do care about is the bottom line rhobust durability of the car. I am running a 50% increase over stock WHP and still drive it on a 100 mile round trip commute to work and back. Not only that, my previous Impreza which was also boosted to nearly double stock Hp ran as a daily driver, driven hard, and ran perfectly when I sold it 4 years later at 150k miles. Honda and Toyota don't have the same baseline rhobust nature as the Subaru, but they aint bad.
  3. That is a fantastic ride and I love the power plant choice. I see it made a few folks upset as it always does to see that 4Cyl keeping pace with their big block.
  4. Yeah, a $10,000 driveline into a $300 probe..... If you have the 10gs for that, buy a 1st gen Impreza and turbo it.
  5. Check out the white spoke US wheels at http://www.summitracing.com, get a toyota 6 lug 15x10 in the "standard" backspacing and they should fit fine, mine did with both 30x12s and 33x16s on them.
  6. The legacy has already been tuned to 300 horse, as has the forrester which is in the same boat in terms of tunability and base engine. My N/A RS was turbod to over 300Hp and ran perfectly when I sold it at 150k miles. My STI is currently putting out right at 450Hp and 500Flb of tourqe and is a 100 mile a day commuter as well. Cobb has just what you want out for a reasonable price. I think their stage II is either shipping or just about to. It outputs just a bit more than an STI and that makes up for the extra legacy weight making you roughly even. Of course you still won't have the tranny which makes more difference in putting down the power than you can imagine. But, a 300Hp legacy won't be a distant compeditor to an STI, but expect that it will still be a different car. http://cobbtuning.com/legacy/power-s.html#stage2
  7. That is great, I would love to see some details on how he did it, it may need some tweaking camberwise but at first glance it looks awesome.
  8. I would do the frame in tube steel just because it is easier to get a tube steel frame right than an aluminum one. Use the WRX rear Xmember and struts for the rear, and a Vette front suspension kit for the front. For the engine I would go with the STI and MT6. You can lock the DCCD for 100% front power and remove the rear housing to shorten it. The body could be either laid up from a mold in fiberglass or CF. I would just take an existing kit car shell and modify it. But I think for less than 25~30gs you would have a car weighing in the low 2000s with 3~500 horse depending on your interests.
  9. Toyota Sienna also fits, at least for the XT6
  10. Skip, it is YOURS. I will bring it to carlisle. making an up pipe is a simple matter. Let me look when I get home tonight and see if I recieved it.
  11. I have in my shed one downpipe for an IHI turbo with cats and flange that is fabricated for installing a turbo in an RS, it is either 2.5 or 3 in. The item is in N. VA and I would rather give it away than throw it away. This is for pickup only unless you want to send a call tag and have it attatched to the unwrapped pipe which would probably work OK, bottom line is I am not boxing and traveling. Also, for sale is an STI turboback complete system for $300, strictly pickup.
  12. By backing plates are you refering to the dust/splash shields behind the rotors?
  13. Which sucks because I have the 6 lug setup. I also threw out two stock WRX calipers just a month ago too. If I can find a caliper that has the same width and if at least one of the lugs mated up I would be fine with moving the second one.
  14. Anyone know which calipers and rotors will bolt up to the EA81 hub and caliper mounting points? Clearly the EJ series rotors won't because they slip over the lugs. Any of the EA82's, do they have more pistons, larger pad area?
  15. Believe me a third of that truck is aftermarket. The problem remains that I would like to know the basic series compatability for fitment. For example, will legacy/outback calipers mate up on the stock EA81 hub? Has anyone retrofitted newer calipers to older hubs? Rotors? Once I know say gen I impreza calipers fit I can go get the aftermarket I want.
  16. Anyone know if the XT6 or other calipers will mate up to an EA81 car? Are these of a larger pad area, different piston config? Anyone ever tried EA82 disks and calipers on an EA81? I haven't touched much EA82 stuff and I am looking to increase the brake heat capacity on the BRAT.
  17. I would do it on an EA81, no question. It works fine on a stock ER27 but fussy on a high CR one.
  18. Here is a visual for you, the BRAT on the left belongs to Mike D. and has 6 inches of lift and I believe 29 inch tires. The one on the right is mine with 12 inches lift and 33x16s. it is "just 3 inches of tire size" more but as you can see, everything changes.
  19. Be mindful that there is a world of difference at that tire size. With something like 30x12 the thing is very capable off road with a great tire to vehicle size ratio yet still very car like on-road, nimble and light. Stock brakes and gearing are still viable at that size. Once you cross over that, you are going into a whole new realm. It may be just 3 inches more in height but the rotating mass skyrockets, braking and gearing all need major changes to perform and handeling takes a total shift. I am not saying it is bad or undesirable, but beware you are entering a very different world and be prepared to deal with it. I would strongly reccomend going 6 inches, with 30's, and getting that experience under your belt before going larger.
  20. I think this year I will be bringing two cars actually, I am still deciding. If the wife drives the 450Hp STI and I drive the BRAT they can both make it. I may do this, but the BRAT goes for sure.
  21. The EJ25 is a great engine. My 99 Impreza started off stock at about 165Hp. I installed a turbo and MANY other modifications and when I sold it at 150k miles it was running strong with aggresive use at just over 300Hp. My current daily driver is an STI Impreza that started stock at 300 and is now pushing right around 450 at the crank. It is driven 52 miles to work and 52 home 4 days a week as well as trips and such. I wouldn't trust any other car for that sort of reliability.
  22. I am registered myself already, the roster should be up soon. For those of you who made it last year it will be great to see all of you again and lets not forget all our friends from the other clubs that hung out with us. For those of you that will be coming for the first time, it is hard to describe what a great time it is. We closed down the show both nights being the last ones to drag off to bed close to the sun coming up. I think that on Friday night myself, Beerheart, Subafreak, Paul from the VW club and a Canadian fellow just about saw the sunrise. It is a 3 day blow out of fellowship, food, suds and most importantly Subies. I am going to bust my hump to get the BRAT shifter kart ready and present for duty. Can't wait to see you all there again.
