  1. I have seen 2ltr turbos go for about 1k, then you need engine management for about $500~1300. So fairly speaking for under 2k you could be sporting at least 250Hp in a Vanagon. I am looking at this from a pure novelty point of view not so much a practicality or economy view.
  2. Ok not a dig on anyone but a serious question. Why does everyone use the EJ22 or maybe EJ25. Why not throw in the JDM STI engine, EG20 TT or SVX H6, all available for very reasonable prices. I think a 280Hp Vanagon would be a serious psycho sleeper and if your going through all the trouble of conversion, why not go all the way?
  3. I still have people tell me, experts/ mechanics etc. that the BRAT cannot be lifted.
  4. That's the part I was trying to skip I was hoping I could order them and have them on hand for when I get time.
  5. Ok, on my BRAT I have the XT6 engine with the stock XT6 alternator. It's bearings are going bad and I am having a devil of a time finding these bearings. I think it is silly to spend $140 on an alternator for $4 worth of bearings. Anyone have any sources?
  6. There is no one size fits all answer, different vehicle types, uses and the very important aspect of owner preference and budget. For a slow yet lightweight crawler I would say EJ25, for a bigger rig, an H6 is a great choice for high resolution low RPM use. For a high speed buggy style with power that hits like a hammer, I would go 2 or 2.5Ltr turbo.
  7. There are waivers for certain things, like Tracy, and the Olsen Twins..... I remember that Subaru ad, as I recall there are a BRAT and a wagon parked on a golf course. That add was in that one with Pia Zadora as well.
  8. 240Hp H6 / 30x12 swampers / non-Tcase / Nuked reverse trying to get back out of a VERY deep mud hole.
  9. That is so nice, I give it two thumbs up.
  10. I ran a 3 inch turbo back straight pipe on my RS-turbo for 4 years and I am currently setting up the same thing on the STI. I would see no reason why the 82T would not work fine with the same setup.
  11. That part has been available since 2000, I got mine from www.autocaresubaru.com and it does help to some degree. The larger problem is that it is a dualstage (in the Impreza) and going to an older single stage booster makes a world of difference.
  12. I run about .5 deg negative on mine. However the tire is so wide and flat that you can't see or feel a difference between about 3 deg positive and 3 deg negative.
  13. I want a subie 4Ltr H6 turbo diesel, that would be sweet. The 2ltr just won't cut it.
  14. I don't have anywhere near that problem with over 3x the power and 33x16s. I am sure that something is up there. Why don't you give me a ring sometime and we can talk it over.
  15. So what, you have assigned yourself as my personal ball buster? I stand by my original statement to you. The BRAT has a 250Hp H6 and proper gearing. I can accelerate faster from 60Mph than your wagon can from a stoplight.
  16. Eh, to some degree, pics of various work and such, but my roots are old school, BRATs are a rung above ANY modern Subaru. I have a finate ammount of time and I am struggeling to keep the BRAT's site up to date and add new material. I just don't have the time to document the STI in the same detail. I am also trying to add the BRAT shifter kart work as well as starting to build details of all things BRAT, kits, R/C, go karts, stompers etc.
  17. Yep, for a liberal pinko he is damn good people. He is a gentleman and I look forward to tapping off a beer with him at East Coast Subaru Show II.
  18. I am a scientist in the space program, in specific I control spacecraft, in loose terms I am a rocket scientist. I have been trying to find that bumper sticker that says "Why yes, I am a rocket scientist. It pays ok, but not as much as you are probably thinking. If you want to sign up, see your local recruiter and serve your country before you serve yourself. That is what I did and I have the education, life experience, background and even the connection to get the interview because of it. The Air Force actually has spacecraft controller positions for enlisted personel, sign up for that and after 4 years of paying your dues you can expect to start at 50-60k as a junior controller, even without school. Add in college and a few years on the job at a civilian company and it goes higher.
  19. I am shooting for about 450 at the crank, so perhaps just a bit less than that at the wheels. I hate to suggest an outcome until it is tuned on a dyno.
  20. Sure, he has allot that isn't on his site, you have to call. He has the Stage II for about 4600 and that is your starting point. Add to that the IC, even larger injectors, turbo porting, headers/uppipe, boost management to handle the extra to reach the stage III level. About 7 k give or take.
