There is a stoplamp checker module, a silver can about the size of a salt shaker, it plugs in the harness behind the plastic trim on the back wall of the cab. If it fails it can do all sorts of funny things to the lighting system. Then again, it cold be an abrated harness. But try swapping that module first.

C'mon Amanda or Ken! Let's see those pics!

Two thumbs up, Great build! I wish we had terrain like that here. -

Would you buy beer and lottery tickets when your baby needs diapers? What the hell are you thinking. Toss that furnature and secure your BRAT.

I used a basic double joint and a NEW high quality rag joint that I inspect at each oil change, 5000miles so far and it looks great. Let me put in a third option to the power steering argument. I decided against it because I didn't think it was up to the duty of 33x16 swampers. I went with a steering stabilizer from Rancho. It cures the above mentioned issue just like PS does and does not increase steering effort by any signifigant ammount. As light as the truck is, steering effort is still not that bad.

Take a look at the Yokahama Parada Spec2 tires, www.tirerack.com has these. I had been using much more expensive Toyo Proxes until I tried these and they are just as good for allot less per tire and last about as long.

If you are looking for a bolt in kit, you can go to www.ozified.com and he has a pic there I believe. If you are looking to fabricate one, I have documentation on that at my site; www.subarubrat.com

That is a bit different. I would suggest linking the front two blocks at the crossmember or using one longer one. But at 3 inches, you are fine without the connecting struts.
-
They are vital for safety and integrity of the lift. I would not set foot in a BRAT that had been lifted without the connecting struts (in the 5in plus size). Without them you would have all sorts of problems, all of them bad.
-
More power. Sko, anytime man, just let me know your in town and with luck well have snow! Snow is my bitch.
-
I would lift it without hesitation. The suspension will stand up top allot more abuse than it looks like and should you find a weak component there are pleanty of very tough replacement options in the form of Impreza rally parts that are a direct fit. I would go with 5 inches of lift and 30x12s for starters.
-
Use the 5 ltr, it has nice internals and responds well to boost or nitrous even at higher mileage. I would couple that to a mustang tranny, drop on a lower boost vortech and call it a day.

When I had my BRAT done I had the body shop do bedliner work on the power half. The trim belt was bedlined in black, and the body below the trimline was done in clear bedliner tinted to match the Subaru Sonic Blue that the truck was done in. They used the Speedliner brand liner and it has been very resistant to off road damage, road salts etc. Bedliner has a reputation for being hard to clean because of the rough texture for grip. You can have them apply the liner in a much smoother texture that does not hold dirt. Mine wipes clean with little effort. From more than a few feet away you cannot tell that it is bedliner. Here is a pic from the day it got home from the paint shop. The white stuff is just wet dust. And just a general one of the result from a distance.

Fooling the Computer
subarubrat replied to bigjim5551212's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
There has been a trick for a long time that works on fuel injection systems that have a seperate map for cold Vs hot running. It is commonly reffered to as a Tourqe Chip. They are available for Imprezas and they modify the coolant sensor reading to stay in the cold map and it does produce more power that way. Now, if your car has a "cold map" this trick should work for you. Now, as far as the above post, this is true of the intake air temp. Your solution to that is to make a free flowing intake that draws air from outside the engine compartment. -
What I have been up to... project XT!
subarubrat replied to Ratty2Austin's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Those wheels look GREAT on that XT, I have seen a set on Blaster88's RX and they are impressive in person. -
I have installed a few of these for friends, no problems at all and well engineered.

I installed a turbo kit on a 98 RS and the tranny was already somewhat questionable from the owner "manually" shifting the tranny all the time. He continued to do this with the turbo kit, went through 2 engines by cranking the boost up and not having a clue as how to manage the fuel and insuffiecent injectors to boot. The tranny never did fail though. The 4EAT has an excellent track record with higher output engines. My 99RS turbo, just over 300Hp, is now at 147k with the 5spd MT (upgraded gears) but I expect that the stock one would have worked out, most 2nd gear frags come from not knowing how to drive.

The problem isn't so much fitment, as it is damping. The stock struts will not have sufficient damping for the heavier springs, you need to do it as a package. If you go with either the KYB AGX adjustables or the STI V 5 struts and then a heavier spring rate you will have a balanced package. Just to give you a straight forward sure-fit, go with the KYB AGX struts for the wagon and a set of coilovers for the Impreza, although coilovers are not the only solution. You can also get excellent performance from many of the available spring sets. The 5Zigens are inexpensive and coupled with the AGXs will give you a well balanced and aggressive road suspension. One final word on this upgrade; thinking of this as a system and not singular parts is what makes it all work. These heavier springs and struts need a heavier sway bar to help maximize them. I would suggest a 20~22mm sway bar to go with this. This will give you the over steer you need to make the car want to turn instead of grudging it through the corner.

lifted yellow GL with TONKA written on the side, Who's is it?
subarubrat replied to roxtar's topic in Off Road
Yep, that is my brother's wagon, Beerheart. He bought it from Tom63092 (or close to that) who works in the same building I do. The TONKA decals came from a Jeep website. Some jeep guys are big into making replicas of the TONKA jeep. Oh, and the yellow and black hashing is from safety tape like they use on factory floors. -
I see it as three stages. Stage 1, bolt on 3 or 4 inch kit. Stage 2, fabricated 6~8 inch kit with stock type drive train Stage 3, fabricated 8 inch plus with Tcase

NDJ Engineering go full scale
subarubrat replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Damn glad to see you step up and start offering this stuff to the guys that want but can't make. I hearby offer you everything I have gratis, methods, plans, and we can work something out for engineering models if needed (ie: be patient with me to make them) so that you can reproduce my parts and mods along with yours. I am never going to be able to produce them so they are all yours to reproduce and sell. -
I too have recently pondered taking on a wife with kids, 2 in addition to mine who lives with me. That is your classic wife and 3 kids. I will keep the BRAT, period, and in all probability the Impreza as well, it holds 2 adults in the front and 3 kids on the back seat. The BRAT is what it is and I don't buy into the idea that all vehicles in the family must be up to family capacity. Along these lines, I would say use the Jeep for trips and full family affairs, and keep your old school for work, local family trips etc. where it would work just fine. Life existed before mini vans.
