  1. The short explaination is Rocket Scientist. My Boeing job title is Scientist II, and my working title is Flight Opperations Specialist Automation/ Recovery. What I do on a planned basis is monitor space vehicle state of health and support testing and integration. We also upload guidance data, payload control software and space craft opperating software. The other side of ops is the recovery of vehicles that have experienced an anomaly that impacts health or service of the space craft. That is sort of the high pressure panic part of the job.
  2. They will be stressed more for sure, part of the game. I do have a set of new diffs and halfshafts that are from the front of a Nissan, R200s. I was going with the R180 but the 200 gives me airlockers and lower gears. The Nissan half shafts are being shortened and re-splined to fit the re-enforced EA81 outer cups.
  3. We have 27 days left to get 8 more cars registered! Latest news and status @ http://www.subarubrat.com/carslile.htm
  4. "hmmm.... don't know if anyone said it... but where's the drivetrain???" Rome wasn't built in one day and neither was this BRAT. The diff and Tcase are in, the shafts are being built at the driveline shop and will be ready for pickup Monday. Here is the Front diff: The Tcase where I used the OEM Nissan mounts: View from the rear: New Rollbar and lights:
  5. I looked over a cummins 4cyl turbo diesel and I really thought about it. But the first two questions people ask me is what frame and suspension the BRAT body is on and what engine I have in it. I really love the look on their faces when I tell them it is all subaru. So I decided to stay subaru for the engine rather than go diesel.
  6. rust. If you find one with low rust everything else is gold. Engine swaps are under an hour, most major work is just as simple.
  7. The bar was in a Mazda but looked real close to the Nissan one, it may even fit both. I have a lift write up for the 8 done, and the 12 will be done. I really wish that I had twice the time so that I could get the work and the documentation done. I will tell you this. It makes a difference when people get your vision. The guy at the wrecking yard uses an EA82 wagon for a yardmobile and he loves what I have done with the BRAT. He sold me the Tcase for the going rate but threw in the shafts for free. Today he sold me the bar for about half of list. Little things like that help out in the big picture. I might get this done for WRX rather than STI pricetag.
  8. I really like the factory high bar but pickins are real non existant here. I will have some finished pics up tommorow with the KCs on it. I do like this one though. The twin tube looks great. What was really neat was the way the taper fits the BRAT bed taper exactly.
  9. When I was pulling the Tcase the other week I came accros this twin tube single runner roll bar. I took a 9 inch section out of it and re-joined it today. It will be filled and sanded/painted tommorow morning.
  10. We are at 17 registrations now, only 8 more to go, get yours in now! Latest news and status @ http://www.subarubrat.com/carslile.htm
  11. Only Fox could draw heat by having a camera follow him to the DMV.
  12. Benebob, I need your name/reg number etc. so I can add it to the list. Did you use the Ultimate Subaru club name? Thanks for signing up, we need all the numbers we can get. If you can leave your car(s) on the field while you are gone there will be a continual presence of club members in the area to look after them.
  13. Could you explain that one, I have no idea what you are talking about.
  14. IF it were a turbo specific cam it SHOULD be ground for less overlap than a NA cam, it would adversly affect your performance.
  15. First build was 260, I have dialed back to sub 250 for this build. I am looking into an EG33 (3.3Ltr SVX engine) as a possible next step. I briefly considered a Cummins deisel and alison tranny that I had a chance to get but I want to keep the drivetrain as Subaru as possible because the first two questions people ask are what chassis the body is on and what engine is in it. I love being able to answer Subaru for both.
  16. Roxtar, I am less than 5 min. from Opal. Anytime you are around let me know.
  17. Bigger diffs and halfshafts are already on hand. I am however going to see how these fair. The only thing I nuked in the prior build was one reverse gear. It's also x 3.69 hp increase if anyone is counting. I have already started refering to the 30x12s as the "stock" tires.... All part of the game.
  18. I have some action photos up on my site, under My BRAT mods, in a few places, various snapshots.... That is with the 30x12s and 8 in. though. Here is another one...
  19. I'll roll in and ask them to check the oil level.... I should be home all day sunday working on it, come on by.
  20. I insist on washing the car before you put the pic up, I will re take it for you.
