  1. I have one guranteed to register so lets just say it is at 16 right now. Latest and news status @ http://www.subarubrat.com/carslile.htm
  2. Had to make another trip to see the plasma cutter and the subframes are on the truck as of now. Tommorow I have only about an hour to work so I plan to get the strut tops pulled and begin to weld their extensions. IF I can get that completed then Sat. morning will be the steering and prepping the diff. I may even get the front diff mount done that same day. Then if I can get the subframes connectors and Tcase mounted Sunday the shafts can get done Monday.
  3. If you want a real solution get a POR15 mix pack which includes POR15 and a cahssis top coat. That will end your rust in that area for life.
  4. We now have 15 cars registered and need 10 more! Latest and news status @ http://www.subarubrat.com/carslile.htm
  5. The problem with a turbo cam is that there is (or should be) less overlap than a N/A cam as well as duration differences. The holes on a cam pully can be converted to slots by a machine shop so that the three bolts can be loosened and the cam timing can be changed. This is sort of a single setting Vtec in a way. You can optimise the cam (even a stock cam) for different usages and RPM ranges. It is a very simple modification. Just do a search on yahoo or google for adjustable cam timing pulley and you will get hundreds of examples and explainations.
  6. "its ok its not rocket science." I wish to hell it were because no B.S., that just happens to be my job. "4 days off? how many on? sounds like a good size weekend. that sounds like 4 BBQ days in a row" We work 4 on and 4 off with 2 sets of mirrored crews in the Mission Control center. You would be surprised at how easily 4 solid days off on paper translates into only about 6 hours of solid work.
  7. Try ovaling your cam sprockets so you can set your cam timing. We saw a 20HP difference on mine with the cam timing advanced from the stock position.
  8. It was all going so fast, I did in three days what it took me three months to do the first time. Then a couple of little holes, probably less than 1/2 square inch of material slams my to a halt.
  9. So I go to refit the new subframes and two of the holes (rearmost) are off by 1/2 inch exactly in the same direction. So I measured something wrong, not a big deal. I mark off the area that needs to be cut and because of the fact that a hole needs to be ovaled the drill press just won't fit the job. So I zip over to the welding/machine shop (40 mile trip) and get them to plasma cut the circles EXACTLY where I marked them. I get home and to my surprise the ovals are running the wrong direction, because I marked them upside down when they were on the truck. Too late to get it re-cut because I have to leave for work. Another day wasted, meaning that I won't have the lift complete by my next 4 days off, which pushes the tcase and shafts back as well. Meaning I won't be done by the first week in April as it looked like I might. This is how days turn into weeks.
  10. No guts no glory. No registrations, no club area. Nobody has registered in over a week now, lets turn words into action and get the total rolling again. If you are even thinking about coming, if you know someone who is, or has said they will, or even know someone in the area with a Subaru, lets get those turned into registrations! 11. I have to back John 100% on the 3rd and 4th etc. hand info. It is very frustrating to hear someone with a stock vehicle (or lightly modified at best) pontificate on the handeling and technical nature of something they have never done, driven, or usually even seen. Sometimes this gueswork is in direct contradiction to those who have done such things.
  12. I added them to my 86 back in the day, and subtracted them from my 82 (to make room for the fuel cell).
  13. While you can do it without removing the motor, the motor is so simple to pull that it may be less frustrating to just pull it and do the gasket job where you can see and work comfortably and then re-install it.
  14. Not to put too fine a point on it, but if you are not willing to entertain something like working with axle modifications you are not ready for the complexities of a 12 inch lift. I am currently completing a 12 inch suspension lift, 10 body and two suspension. Proper handeling is a funtion of more than just lift alone. Width to height is important: a set of narrow tires on a low offset wheel will give you a a very different track width than a set of 12 inch wide tires on 3.75 inch offset wheels giving you a track width that is a foot wider than the height of the vehicle. Suspension: A mere lift (agrivated in proportion by height) with low performance or stock shocks will give you poor handeling as well. Uprade the springs and use a high performance self adjusting shock such as the RSX or an externally adjustable like the RS9000. This will give you a suspension that is flexable off road and safe on road. Travel:this too can be dealth with via guted and replaced struts in the front and long travel shocks front and rear. With just a lift alone your handeling will be very different than a vehicle done as a system to include performance shocks, springs and a track width to match the height. My former configuration @ 8 inches of lift was 1 foot wider than it was tall and with the upgraded suspension it handled as well as your average sports sedan, ask anyone who has ever seen it on the road. With my new configuration I am trading off a bit. I am going to be about 10 inches wider than tall with the same adjustable ranchos and upgraded springs. I know good and well that the handeling will be more truck like than before, yet I can be reasonably certain that I will still out handel a stock BRAT or an average sedan.
  15. Sure can! And they even have those talkin pictures and perfume for your armpits!
  16. "ok, ran out of gas in 1 car ? they only took 1 car on the trip" So I guess the math works out then..... "and you talked to them on the phone , and your location is in virgina" Yeah, imagine that, despite the telephone's recent arrival on the scene and unproven performance I was actually able to talk to someone on the phone THREE whole states away!
  17. You could also add on a more agressive shock in parallel with the struts. If you need help let me know.
  18. I gave them a call a bit ago and they were doing fine other than a bad tire. They are just a hair away from picking up the wagon. He mentioned they ran out of gas in one car within sight of the gas station. I think there doing well all things considered.
  19. Get a BRAT, 4 inch lift, and some 27 inch micky thompsons on a 6 lug conversion. That will get you managable mods on a stock driveline. Then of course you have the option of any subaru 4cyl slipping right in. Need that occasional extra seat or storage? Camper top and the bed seats take care of that.
  20. Well, I got the rear lift completed tonight other than about another hours worth of work to get the diff hanger completed. Engine and tranny will be out tommrow as well, possibly I could be looking at having this thing back together by mid to late April.
  21. First the obvious. 1. I just arrived home, All the trim is not back on it yet. 2. I know there is no clearance, I am starting on a 12 inch lift in the morning. 3. Better pics will follow The basic work done: Bed, bumpers, bedrails, trim all bedlined in black. From the trimline down, it is all bedlined in blue bedliner tinted with 74F sonic blue. The truck is painted with 74F sonic blue. A set of EdDahl targa stripes in black was added.
  22. I fragged reverse rocking myself out of a mud hole I should have winched out of.... All in all the tranny held up to allot of agressive use on and off road. The repalcement has been fine. This is the 4spd D/R.
