'82 BRAT + ER-27MPFI/DR-5spd
subarubrat replied to TomRhere's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
They have the same laws here, I am in vilation by about 8 inches over the max. I am still not taller than a Toyota with the max legal lift. Look, I am a good conservative republican pro-law enforcement and decent citizen. I don't rape, murder, steal, commit arson, embezlement, assault or any sort of bad behavior. However there comes a time that I just have to tell the gov. to get f****ed and step out of my life. I draw that line at my lawn darts and lift kits. I know that I may get a fix-it ticket here and there (no points and non-binding to correct) so I will pay the $40 and get on with life. -

Bingo Adam, what I am doing is running the Subaru tranny in low until I get my other R180 and 2 more STI half shafts, then I will let the diffs do the reduction rather than the tranny (plus upgraded shafts). I am looking for a smashed STI for those parts as well as a swap donor for engine and tranny to my 99RS-T. It won't be right away though I have to build up my green blood cell count after bleeding the money to finish the BRAT. -
The lift itself will not really impact you to a great degree. Slightly larger tires will not hurt and if you do highway cruising the lower RPM can help. But that is a thin margin, go up very much and you will start dropping.

It will be great to have an authentic bed seat having BRAT there. That is the first thing that 99% of people remmeber when you talk about the BRAT. The deadline for me to submit everything is the 27th, the 30th is on paper but Christine who handles it is only in the office on Tuesdays. For me to get everything in to her, I need it by the 26th. That said, why wait till the last second, the sooner everyone registers and we reach goal the better.

'82 BRAT + ER-27MPFI/DR-5spd
subarubrat replied to TomRhere's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think I can clairify my remarks on lift and ER27 fitment. To fit the ER27 without modifying the framerails a lift is a great solution. My combo at the time was a 6 inch body lift and a 2 inch suspension lift. The lift was notched during construction for the head clearance. A 4 inch lift would probably not have enough area to notch. Further your T case would be low slung at 4 inches. I would reccomend going up to 6 inches of lift as a bare minimum, preferably 8. -

With the 30's I had some clutch slipage but not a great deal in low. The new arrangement will actually be better off than the 30's. I am locking the subaru tranny in 4 low. By good fortune the ratio with the 33s and low range works out to the same ratio with the stock tires in high range. So I will actually be geared like stock. The new low range will be delivered by the Nissan transfer case so Subaru low is now high, and the Nissan handles low. Power is fantstic with the ER27. I had built to 260 and had a bearing failure, not related to the increased output, just a bad bearing. The current build dynoed at 240 and the CR is a bit lower. -
While his work is impecable and he is definatly a leader in the technical aspects, I cannot reccomend him as being a up front or punctual person. Maybe I am unreasonable but communication and the courtesy of not having to chase someone down to thier word is something I consider important. If he has the car on hand, I would not hesitate to buy it, again, no question on his skills. But I wouldn't trust a promise.

They mounted one of the new tires today so I could get some clearance measurements and I have made a small change accordingly. I am going ahead to 12 inches of lift to get all the clearance the way I want it, in specific, the turning radius. And this is no trick lense, they really are that big. -

Since they have showers and the like at the campsite and the boy has been bugging me to camp I am going to do that. -
IMPORTANT I spoke at length with the carslile show opperators and folks if we are going to do this as a club parked together at the same tent rather than rag tag scattered all over the place we need to translate intent into action! The key to this is registration and more registration. If we get 25 paid registrations by the 30th of April we have a club and a tent. If we fall short we don't. Registration is only $15 dollars and can be done over the web. This gets your car and two people in for the whole weekend, kids are free. When you register use the club name Ultimate Subaru. Dennis and I are taking the workload of making this happen so all you have to do is get registered and let us know so we can track it. Just follow the below link and we can make this happen in a professional and BIG way. I got my registration done yesterday, make yours happen today! Just remember that ANYTHING can be made to fit, just depends on time and money. I would use the EA81 running gear with the lift functioning as lift and adaptor. I would further go with a 4 inch lift rather than 3, it will help you clear 27~28s and prevent you from doing any signifigant trimming.

What the deal with N/A Cars?

Naturally aspiraed, non-turbo in other words. -
I recently noticed this, 82's and ER27's

And it matches my R/C BRAT making it easier to have a Mini Me. I actually am painting on a textured bedliner in the bed and a hood vent + flares to keep it scale to mine. -

It does seem to be the perfect engine for the truck. New pics will be up later in the week. -
Dude, everyone needs to take this quiz!

STI here too, what do you have to do to rate a BRAT? -
got the RX started.. FIXED! Trivia time!
subarubrat replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You had compression, fuel and air in those cylinders AND a spark. therefore it MUST run and the failure you are describing could not have been happening. It just took the car a few days to accept it. -
Anyone out there with FSM for '82 BRAT ?
subarubrat replied to TomRhere's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Go over to the yahoo XT6 group, they have the ECU wiring diagrams in their file area. You will need those most of all. The only thing you really need from the BRAT are a 12v and Gnd source. A few words of advice, skip the underhood harness that contains the fuel and ignition relays. The circuit is easily built using two relays mounted on the back of the ECU. If you mount your ECU on the passengers side and route the harness over the hump and out the drivers side into the hood things will line up well and you will not have to shorten the harness. You can reduce the wire count by grouping the grounds together to a common chassis ground. -

I will be going up and staying the night, my son as well. I think it would be great to get as many of us at the same hotel as possible. I would suggest that we talk about this in the main thread that is stickied so everyone sees it. -
AAaargh.... Why won't it fit?!?!?
subarubrat replied to subaru420's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sounds pretty likely your plate is off center. With the engine that far in, use the fix that miles posted. In the future use the alignment tool and get it centered before installation.
