  1. Thanks, my goal is to be able to pull it out of the garage 20 years from now and show people how awesome these trucks are! I am immediately failing in two objectives, I planned to never take it out in the wet or on snowy (salted) roads. Thus far I drove it in the wet to Cars and Coffee, and today drove it to work with the forecast being a 10% chance of snow after midnight, so at 7pm I drove home in the snow.
  2. POR is great stuff but you need to get the entire system and follow through all the steps. Just painting it with POR 15 paint will only mask it. The full steps are: Remove as much rust as possible Marine clean and rinse Metal Ready Apply POR 15 Top coat
  3. On the 82 the ECU was bolted underneath the steering column,
  4. Made the front page of the Historical Vehicle Association! http://drivehistory.org/post/137087199318/thiscarmatters-because-its-a-1982-subaru-brat
  5. Superb job gunny, you can convert EA81 hubs to 6 bolt no problem. Just bolt on the wheel with two studs opposite to each other remaining and then drill out the other four.
  6. ARGGGH, two hours of Griots speed shine, a pile of micro fibers, and a roll of paper towels to clean off all the brown mist.
  7. I went to my usual cars and coffee in Great Falls and despite it being a crappy day weather wise there was an OK turn out, usually 300ish cars but today about half. I got interviewed by a historic vehicle group and turned them on to the Ronald Reagan Brat story, really nice guys.
  8. Got it back with the targa stripe on, I suck at decals so I got it done at the shop where I had the paint done. I am still looking for seats, and a few minor bits that I would like better condition for. I am going to take it to cars and coffee this weekend, there are about 200~400 amazing cars there every Sat, anything from a pre WWI steam car up to the latest exotic and something like the Brat fits right in.
  9. The simple way with the simplest tool set needed (and quickest too): replace caliper, pads, and rotor and be done with it. Who knows what wear issues you have with that rotor and you can probably buy a new one cheaper than getting it turned.
  10. Ferrari went this way to keep in the tradition of a mid engine rear drive car. I recall a truck like that, probably the same one, probably failed to due to cost.
  11. The best? La Ferrari. I took this pic last month at the museum in Italy, what an amazing bit of hardware. Zoom in and read the specs!
  12. Wonderful result! I love the header look under the truck!
  13. Awesome ugly, nice! Funny I took the truck by a friend's store today and his cashier asked what the funky truck that looked like a dune buggy in the parking lot was! Subaru does its best when it is weird and different and not trying to be Honda or Toyota.
  14. What exactly is cracked, the head near the plug, the block? Can you post pics? If the block is cracked you can buy a running EA81 super cheap and overhaul it with any degree of upgrades you like.
  15. It was, died of terminal rust almost 10 years ago, I have a different 82 now. It was running Toyota wheel bolts with 33x16 swampers. More pics on my crappy old unmaintained site, www.subarubrat.com
  16. I used these for an 89 Toyota, they fit with proper trimming.
  17. I didn't have one myself and a quick google didn't turn up anything, but I would suggest this. Crawl under your car and look up at the low range shift rod, get a helper to move it for you, the basic problem is that it is now too short. Just cut it in half and slip a tube over it about 3 inches long and weld it to one side, then install it with the trans in 2wd high and the lever in the right spot, so there is no stress on the linage and mark that spot to weld the tube to the other side. I think a few min under the car with someone moving the linkage will make it clear.
  18. You called it, the lift kits available for subarus just don't include the extra bits, extending the linkage is easy but you need to cut and weld. Fortunately you are in the subaru center of the world and should be able to find a board member locally to help you.
  19. I thought I had posted these earlier, the part number for the bed trim clips, subaruparts.com has them: 7910 17200 You need two of these 7910 17130 And 18 of these
  20. Yeah, they are pretty poorly described, they call them screw gromets. Follow the link in my signature to my Brat, I posted the part numbers and pics in there.
  21. Subaruparts.com does have them in stock. If you print in nylon they should be as durable as the originals, I have been doing some prints with nylon and it is the best and worst material which is how it goes with 3D printing. PLA is easiest to stick, but weakest, ABS harder to stick but better parts, and nylon is a nightmare to stick but you get a superior end result. I have been printing onto a sheet of 1/4 nylon clamped to the bed.
  22. #1 Join the military, any branch will do, and pick an MOS (job) as a mechanic. While you are in, lets say you sign up for a 4 year enlistment, you can easily finish a college degree that will be totally paid for and you will bring to employers actual experience, education, and a work ethic that they dream of. I am assuming you are in the USA, if not check into what your nation's military offers.
  23. I am eager to see the end result, brilliant build!
  24. Looks like it is coming along nicely! About those bags, they look nice and I would be down for a set myself, I think you could sell quite a few sets since most are lost to history.
