  1. Thanks, good potential lead. I emailed Scott @ SJR and he seemed to say that the cables usually reach (on non-Bajas) after being unclipped, mine runs right from the shifter to the tranny. I will check into that SVX cable, were the ends roughly the same connectors and configuration?
  2. All my previous subaru lifts have been manuals so I have never had to deal with this before. I have a 4EAT tranny and with the 4inch crossmember blocks the tranny shift cable is now too short. What solutions have already been found? Is there an alternate cable from another application? A good way to extend the existing cable? And any pictures would be very helpful!
  3. They have certainly hit their bottom value and are climbing, but still stupid cheap compared to most collector cars. Were talking 1/3 to 1/2 the price of a Toyota Camry, that isn't exactly 55 Chevy or 69 Camaro territory.
  4. This version is much more faithful to the original, and it is back in production now!!!!! Made by the same company, same body, but a more realistic chassis. https://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=58384
  5. Brakes $30 Fuel $865 Oil $235 Insurance $659 Rust repair $X,XXX.
  6. Great idea, I might be able to make that Saturday and bring the lifted Baja.
  7. I think it is brilliant, Subaru fans have always been there and are their best advertising so why not work with them! Well done Subaru. I am hoping to see some more swag in the near future, I almost held on to some bucks just in case.... _same amount here $150 which I thought was decent as a starting point.
  8. That is cool, I have a great pic of my monster Brat parked next to the first Bajas to hit the east coast at Manassas Subaru, nice folks. Also, had to do a burn out in the service bay at another place after a rude service manager with crossed arms essentially told me I was a liar because you can't lift a Subaru (I just wanted an alternator for the XT6 engine I had in it which is what started the conversation about how that engine didn't come in that truck and that I didn't know what I was talking about). I have never seen such a shocked look as his when I pulled it into the bay about a min after him telling me "well I think you should" after I said let me just go get the truck. But I digress... NIce to know Vegas has a good dealership as we are looking at moving there eventually, and spend allot of time there. Whenever I am driving out there I am constantly looking off to the side of the road and thinking "That would be fun in the Baja!", "And that!", "Oh, that too!"
  9. I missed the first time around that they sent a code in the email that goes in the ambassador bucks slot of the user profile, once you put that in check out is done with the amabssador bucks. What is odd is that they charge, but do not show, tax so you have to fiddle with the items a bit to get under the allowed amount. I also did some back and forth about using the initial amount in full or using some and holding some in balance in case they added some additional items that were better later. Not that this isn't good swag mind you, just what if you go back next week and they have added something cooler like hotwheels rally cars or something... As soon as I get my swag I'm going to hand some out at the Cars and Coffee.
  10. I did as well, and I am going to take some goodies to the next cars and coffee in Great Falls VA.
  11. Installing new headers, as long as things are apart it is a nice time to do some cleaning. And the simple boot that FOA wanted $165 for was sold by Honda for $17 for two.
  12. Just waiting on the truck to come home from the body shop. I am having them take out any dings, soda blast to bare metal, epoxy prime and paint. Once it comes home I have to drop the motor back in and wire it up and install all the trim again. I told the body shop not to worry about getting it to me until the salt is off the road and I am wrapping up my winter project with the other car. Expect to see it on the road by summer!
  13. I have a few winter projects that are getting near finished to one degree or another. The Subaru project is my 82 Brat that is at the paint shop and I told them that I wanted it back after the salt was off the road, a freshly rebuilt EA81 is on my bench waiting for it to come home. My major non Subaru project (car wise) has been a total overhaul of the F1 system on my 355. This system is nuts, it is a true manual 6 speed the same as is in the 6 speed stick shift cars but it has a computer that runs a pump and hydraulic valve body that control the tranny. So you pull the paddle to shift from 1st to second and in about 100msec it opens the clutch, moves the forks from 1st to 2nd and releases the clutch and returns the throttle to you before you notice the shift. The system tends to work great until it doesn't then your rump roast out. Mine started acting up in the fall so I hauled it up on the lift and went to work. I did the clutch, damper, flywheel, sensors, seals, and converted from the OEM 355 pump to a massive upgrade of the 360 pump for about 10% of the dealership cost to install the same old crap. Here are a few highlights; Car with the system installed, freshly painted heat shield, and you can see the EA81 on the bench. This view shows the clutch and exhaust removed. The layout is different in that it is engine, tranny, clutch instead of engine clutch tranny as the world usually works. What lead to the whole project was a leaking seal that let tranny fluid onto the clutch disk and sensor.
  14. Great work! I have always wanted to grab a solid axle Toyota and do a big lift, run 44's, a V8 swap and all the trimmings, but I have never found the time to do it.
  15. This is totally confounding. After decades of ducking their fans, pretending they never heard of us, and not returning phone calls and emails about supporting events, they mail that... I hope it is a legit turn around.
  16. Yep, just grab a WRX engine and tranny pull with harness and ECU and drop it in, not a difficult swap and the power is ideal.
  17. I took a friend for a ride in the 355 and he shot this short video, the sound doesn't quite do it justice but it is pretty good.
  18. I think it would be an interesting "what if" Subaru built an EA82 Brat, I say go for it. But I would rethink the lift a bit, I would suggest an off the shelf 4in lift and less spring lift. I got 2in lift with double shocks and proper geometry but had to rebuild it as a coilover to get the job done, and your at the limit of the axles around 2in (use OEM subaru). You will get the same lift but with allot less trouble.
  19. Another vote for redline gear oil, I use a mix of thin and thick (about 50-50) in my 82 BRAT.
  20. Back in the day, I had a set of mud tires for trailers mounted on a BRAT and I *THINK* they were Buckshot brand. They were outwardly just like the other buckshot mudders and handling was about average for a mud tire, I don't have any idea what their construction was and as a teenager at the time I didn't ask or care. I have seen several folks run big fat ATV tires and wheels on scoobies offroad and they seem like a superb solution as some of today's ATVs are getting big and heavy. For offroad use as a second set I would say anything goes, so just buy a second set of wheels and swap them out at the off road destination.
  21. Traded in my 2010 SS Camaro for a 2015 ZL1 Camaro. It is a beast, 580hp stock and I have a pile of upgrade parts to add another 220hp.
  22. It was over a dozen years ago but I thought it said Hardbody.... Here are pics of the donor and gearbox; Donor truck; http://subarubrat.com/PICS/donor.JPG Case off truck; http://subarubrat.com/PICS/tcase2.jpg It was tough as nails, never broke!
