  1. personally, I would reccomend to NOT switch to the 2.5...although they are more powerful than the 2.2, they are not anywhere near as reliable.. all the 2.5s that I have seen, either DOHC or SOHC, have had some strange issues, usually relating to HG, or piston slap.... although, it might just be all the ones I have seen... you can find info about the 2.5 swaps using the search function, and- http://www.nasioc.com deals with more of the 2.5 swaps.. try searching that as well but yeah.. just my opinion, stick with the 2.2- they are tough!
  2. wonder if anyone will do the swap meet thing again? or would it be just vendors and people who just happen to bring stuff to sell? (reason I wonder.. I have a cargo trailer now to haul parts!! ) hopefully I will be all settled into wherever I move to in the seattle area- I will be there for sure! I just need to make sure I am recovered $$wise from the big move..... is there a way I can be useful this time? help organizing things? setting up?
  3. I could take on that water! well... i could if i was there maybe I will when i get back! what you need to do is fit yourself a snorkel! mine was pretty cheap, and works quite well dont know what to do about the disty though....besides teh suggestion about dielectric grease the heck out of it
  4. not yet...I still need to find out where I am going to get a few parts... if I have all the parts I need, I would install it! but I need to know what to do about the center driveshaft, where to get FWD EJ18 5spd impreza axles (they are the correct ones to use, right?) and I would like to know what would work the best for a tranny xmember.... as for the rest.. i would still need a flywheel+clutch+adaptor plate.... but ive got a lead on a tranny, and access to a shop (as long as my car is not there for more than a few hours (a work day) so i would have to have all the parts ready to go...then I will install it!
  5. yeah, longblock, and injectors..keep the EJ18 manifold+electronics (thus keeping the EJ18 manifold) and the ECU stays the same- drawback- my CEL randomly comes on, because the EJ22 that I pulled was one without EGR, so I had to cap off the vac lines that control the valve (bypassing these with little screws in the hoses keeps the valve close, so it doesnt open the manifold up to open atmosphere) but it seems to run good- I just dont know whats going to happen when I go in for an emissions test! **** easy instructions on the swap- 1. remove Y pipe, Alt, A/C compressor, P/S pump, radiator and battery. 2. unbolt and move aside your EJ18 intake manifold, leaving all wires attached to the manifold (you will use the EJ18 harness) 3. unbolt+remove EJ18 longblock. 4.with engines removed, install new parts (like clutch?) or seals if needed. 5.install EJ22 longblock. 6.install EJ22 injectors into EJ18 manifold (easier to install the rail assemblys than to remove each injector) 7.re-install EJ18 intake manifold, onto the EJ22 longblock. 8.re-install Alt, P/S pump, A/C compressor, radiator and battery 9. dont forget to add oil and coolant! notes- EJ18 does not use a knock sensor, so if using the EJ18 ECU, it is still not needed. phase1 (w/dual port exhaust) EJ22 will interchange many of the parts used by the EJ18- including tbelt parts, water/oil pump, exhaust/intake
  6. hehe- I hate that vac line.. same one near the airbox got me confused a few times on the XT when I had it! good to hear it runs! is it any better with the new grounds? i was thinking of doing that to mine too
  7. my impreza has no horn either.. i found out that I broke the ribbon wire and the mecanism that is in the rotating switch thingy between the wheel and the column... so now I need to wire up a new button elsewhere :-\
  8. I would like to eventually get around to re-adjusting the A bar.. it has been on there for a while, and it is reallllly on there too- so far I actually have pushed a few cars with it, on the freeway! but hopefully sometime soon, I can heat up the lower portion of the bar and bend it so its closer to the new bumper, or re-mount it so its closer tucked up to the body too... or.. sell it and just make a new skid plate in its place, now that I have a new bumper! (anyone want a "impreza A bar"?)
  9. not true... all imprezas AFTER 95 had 2 airbags.. 93 and 94 had only a steering wheel bag.. *and* I only removed mine, because I did not want to pay for the repairs needed to make it work again, cause when I drove thru the mud @ gilbert, something with the SRS system got screwey and the airbag light came on... so it wouldnt have worked anyways! I would guess that the new bumper weighs about 40 to 60 lbs, (it felt the same as the stock bumper when I removed it) and I used a AC stick welder! with some 6011 lincon rod, at about 100amps I have not had a chance to try welding with a wire feed yet, but im getting good with a stick arc!
  10. that has been taken care of on the imp no bag, no sensors, and no computer! I know, I know.. im asking for trouble
  11. actually.. I found a welder, and made it myself! it just took a few hours
  12. welll, not much to it just a bunch of 2x4ish tube...(still needs some more parts but its on the car now.... and I have pics i still need to mount the new mini-turn signals (they will go on the top of the bar, so they wont easily get squished... and I need to find a better way to attach my license plate-instead of zip ties!
  13. if y'all could move the party to the weekend of the 18/19th.. I could be there too! (yes, I will be in town, and I would like to see ya guys too) or...have 2 parties?
  14. I belive I have fallen for the same mistake look at the up-side though, now you have a new starter, and a spare!
  15. here is my 94 imp L wagon.... forester struts from a 99- and 215/75R15 BFG all terrains I am still waiting on my purchase of a lift kit, and tranny swap (4wd D/R) to see who has the best kit for the buck... or making it myself (we are all money savers here ) otherwise, for how easy the strut swap is.. it has pretty good results for the money... and it will work with a lift down the road too when I get mine
  16. were flying in friday eve, sunday is dinner at the parents, and monday afternoon we depart... the other days are open for visits or partys! as long as we visit the UW (need to tour the dorms for freddie) and I look around and get an idea for homes w/garages for rent... (for when i move back too) I would like to hang out and visit people when i am there, so maybe we could have a meet up somewhere? party?
  17. I got a new cover for the rear cargo area! a trip to the metal yard, and about 20 bucks.....
  18. here is the EJ18 as it sits right now.... still a good running engine, but only puts out about 100 or 110ish HP... good HGs! good bearings, good heads!
  19. got it swapped in less than 5 hours!!! ingredients= EJ22 longblock+EJ18 manifold, + EJ22 injector rails/injectors more power! pics and more info coming later! EJ18 for sale now! (longblock only, good cond~$120)
  20. woohoo!! hmmm.. i must be the off one out again.. I liked shelton over the "grass field" :-p but oh well, its a cool place anyway! sweet! by then I should have more mods done, and I should be all moved back in too!
  21. ok no fair.. i think I need to go even deeper (even though, i floated which makes mine the deepest, so far on video) but I cant test it furthur... at least not in this state.. everything is ICE! just give me a few more months.. I will give it the mega test but your video was still cool  so how about that adaptor plate?
  22. yeah... I got bored today.. so I sorted most of my pictures in my section of the USMB gallery http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36 most of you probably have seen all these already... but for those who havent... enjoy! and I hope it is easier to go thru them now
  23. yay!!!! when I get back I plan to go play there lots hopefully people wont screw it up for everyone...
  24. i will see if i can fix the second video clip tonight when i get home, and I will see about possibly uploading it as a different format too- brian, if yor on aim, i will IM you, maybe I can have you convert it to WMV for some of the people
  25. here is the first video clip... this was the test run with the snorkel at Gilbert ORV park http://usmb.net/albums/album216/imprezamuddunk.mov *edit* I moved them to the "duluth offroad" album, and I cant seem to get the second video clip working yet... update will be soon
