  1. all the EJ18s as far as I have ever seen are dual port.. and all EJ22s are dual port up to 96.5ish (then they switched to phase2 EJ22) I would like to use the EJ22 manifold.. I am going to experement with the wireing, wich means I am heading back to the junkyard and pulling an intake, or at least just the wires from a matching impreza.. so that I can prefit everything before i try to do it with no running car... (btw, i got the imp going again for temporary on the EJ18..) got permission from the boss at work to do all the work in the shop after I get off the clock (yay for warm shop and lift!) so I am gonna tear down the EJ22 first, and replace all the need-to-replace parts including HGs (just to be safe) as far as buying my EJ18 subylvr2122- you can! if you want.. once this whole thing is complete, i will let you know whats left (most likley a longblock with intake?) the longblock is in very nice shape, it just will need new belt pullys, seals, ect.. but the crank/cam and heads are in great shape i will probably do 120 bucks+shipping for the EJ18 once the EJ22 is in and working well.... side note- one of the mnsubaru guys at my work has a 96 imp L with the phase2 EJ22, and he is running a 99 OBW EJ25 ECU.. he said it plugged in and works?! (although he gets a CEL with codes for the EGR and i assume the second cam sensor) I dont belive him 100% but he is pretty knowledgable as for the EGR resistor, does anyone know the resistance@ normal operating temp? thanks for the advice, everyone! keep it coming  I think I will start doing some write-ups when I am done so people will know what works
  2. ive done the EA to EJ before, but this will be my first EJ to EJ :-p car- 94 impreza AWD 5spd EJ18 with EGR, no AC... engine bought yesterday from junkyard out of 93 legacy wagon 4EAT, non-EGR, AC (removed by me) boils down to having a longblock EJ22 with most of its manifold parts in tact.. and I belive i need to put new HGs on it just to be safe, and all the other parts as well... (pumps, reseal gaskets, plugs, ect...) i am going to just re-use my flywheel and clutch for the mean time, cause I plan to get the DR swap soon so my question, is should I use my manifold on the EJ22 longblock? (remember the EGR plumbing) so that my electronics line up? or... should I use my EJ18 wire harness, and install it on the sensors that are in the EJ22 manifold....? just seeing if anyone has done this before with sucess... also, if anyone is selling spare parts for these engines, i am in the market!
  3. my gas milage- EJ18, 5MT AWD impreza wagon, 31mpg this summer across ND (all the way across in one tank!) ... current MPG around town (commute to work) 21-24mpg approx turbo XT back when i "commuted" to euegene OR from seattle- also 31mpg (325miles on one tank!!) but i have had some.. not so good MPG ratings... (83 wagon with poorly-tuned weber= 3mpg ) that was a bad day, stuck choke!)
  4. man! that is a nice looking hatch!!! I would buy it up, and give it an EJ swap then it would run nice AND look nice  dont give up on it, it can be very frustrating- I know, ive been there before with all my EA cars... carby power is hard to get to work good (unless your a carb guru!) so good luck, and may the board be with you
  5. of course you can see them here http://usmb.net/gallery/view_album.php?page=13 (and a bunch are in the firestone @ st paul album on that same page) most of the pics were from last night and earlier this week.... the basket was a sweet find, it fits right into the tubes on my rack, which makes it like it was meant to be!!
  6. lol!! i know that car- i got a lot of video of him at WCSS7! I dont remember what his board name is though
  7. which part of the harness does the knock sensor plug into on a '99 EJ25?? I need to replace the plug that the knock sensor plugs into, but I dont know if its part of the manifold harness, or the body harness, or a small section? anyone that can take a peek under their hood, please let me know soon! thanks!!! trying to get this car done asap, but having trouble finding a plug!
  8. sweet! i will try to get some videos posted later this month or next month, as soon as the lakes are save to drive on (expect a large group of subarus doing massive spins and drifts!) where was that at?
  9. cool! but wait... do you have a lift in there? or is that just the swampers? (i could have bought swampers, but I opted against them due to lack of offroadable area in this state :-p ) but nevertheless it looks cool! hope that we can play again soon in the woods- (before wcss8 )
  10. when I worked at subaru (in the tire shop) the official subaru spec for ALL subarus was 65 ft/lbs or, if you have one of those colorful "torq-stick" sets- use the yellow one
  11. ooooooohhh! sweet! I should be there by then dont think i will get very good times on the track though
  12. yikes.. and just think of all those ones that are working fine in junkyard cars, that we could easily collect... cheap and plenty! someone should be collecting things like this on j/y trips
  13. you know you can always call on me for help! (I belive you have my #s) good luck with the trip- i should be following in a few months from now
  14. its been 6 months from the time I moved away from the north seattle area- and each month I have been away I more and more want to move back.. I have found nothing out here that I like in comparison.. (but thats because I am used to west WA, and this is very different here) brier and mountlake terrace are pretty cheap areas that are still close to the major city life- (good for jobs, etc) either state is a good choice as far as climate though- you cant go wrong in WA and OR! btw, i cant stand it when people pump my gas for me! I usually tried to find a gas station with lazy attedants, and pump it myself when i was hanging out in eugene
  15. swap meet? oohhh.. howabout a 4wd D/R tranny? and flywheel (ea82 4wd)? i would be interested if one is available in good shape ok.. so .. go figure, but I am supposed to work on monday which means it will be hard to get that day off, plus friday? hmm... still not sure i can pull it off.... if I can, do we know who all is coming at this point?
  16. i have beat my impreza up a lot.. and many other subarus.. they are tough to break- however if the local mechanic used a cheap-brand reman axle (non OEM) then thats your problem. I am almost sure of it... i stopped buying cheap brand reman axles cause they usually break when i install them.. one of them never made it into the car, cause it was broken out of the package! other axles (also cheap reman) exploded on me... even after a week of normal driving! so i would say, DONT get a cheap reman axle to replace that one- get a genuine Subaru reman or NEW from a dealer. trust me- its worth the extra money!!!
  17. sounds like its a tempurature related problem- try putting FULL synthetic oil in it, and use 5w30 or lighter- the oil at less-than 10degs F would be pretty thick, and it may have something to do with this- also only have a subaru shop/dealer do work on it- those jiffy lube places can screw up your car- trust me.. i have had experience fixing problems caused by those places... also, keep MORE than 1/4 tank of gas- any less and you will have moisture problems in the fuel system.. wich will make it not start.. (also, stay away from E85 gas)
  18. still not sure on this yet.. having second thoughs due to apparent lack of interest in the meet idea? (main reasons- money, and I havent talked to the boss yet for the time off- cause I still need to know when to ask for time off?) lets get a vote.... when exactly (I need a day drive each way minumum so when would the party/meet be, the 31st/or 1st? sat looks better to me) who will be there? where will it be, and what we gonna do? hotel? party crash at someones home? ?
  19. my turbo xt did this in the summer time... whats wrong, is that you are leaking coolant. and there is not enough or any flow to the radiator- so... replace the thermostat. about 10 to 15 bucks... if that doesnt fix it, then you must replace the radiator- it is most likley cloged... trust me on this one- this was the problem with mine- the symptoms are the same as you described- I replaced my radiator with a junkyard unit and it worked fine, even when it was 100 degs outside!
  20. thats what I mean, that tag, which all my previous EA cars had.. the imprezas no longer have that tag back there... there is no tag at all on it... it has what looks like mini "heatsink fins" on the backing plate.. so thus, no place to put a sticker...
  21. I remember back when i had EA cars.. but now with the impreza, I cant just look at the sticker on the rear diff to tell what ratio I am running :-\ I am planning on going with the EA D/R swap.. but I need to know if I need to swap rear diffs too? does my impreza (1994 5spd L wagon EJ18) have the 3.9 or 4.11? how can I look it up, some other way than rotating it and counting the revs...?
  22. I will only run synthetic in my car now (well, or whatevers cheap if I need it in a pinch) and I am drivin the 94 impreza with 181k+....NO leaks! it was horrid when i bought it, leaked out of almost every seal... but I fixed er up good (this was at 160k) and, its still going good! so if you used good OEM seals, and OEM 3-bond glue (for the oil pan, sep plate, oil pump) it should be fine with synth- and it should run a little better too... thats just my experience and advice
  23. things are looking good for me... I still am waiting for final confirm on the -time off from work part of things- so... whats gonna happen, party? new years celebration? i vote yes we would need to know where to meet, who all is coming, and what to bring? which day should we play exactly? saturday would be the appropriate day I think.... any of the washington peeps gonna head out too? any from other areas? party!
