  1. hmmm.. sounds like possible fun... does this mean I should drive my impreza out rather than ride my bike? (hows the weather anyways along the I-90 and I-94 corridor?)
  2. the forester struts I put on my impreza wagon, make it ride like a forester! now you can run a 26.6" OD tire... look at Zap's OBS tires on the XT6 wheels! those are beefy my setup- forester strut and spring set, front strut assemblys install directly onto impreza, rears need to have the strut top changed to the impreza top (the spacing of the 3 bolts is different) install and align!
  3. well, I will be in town again, the weekend of the 14th of may... and I think I will be taking a little stroll around to try and gather some more info, maybe talk to some places of hire.... and then I will be also taking a peek at some apartments and such...
  4. I actually chopped up the origional mounts on the A bar, then re-welded them to the bar at a different spot.. the rear mount is using the swaybar inner bolts (attached to the X member) and the front mounts are using 12x1.25 bolts with captive nuts I attached to little extensions on the sides of the A bar, wich screw thru the tow hooks using big washers to keep it all in there.
  5. oh my.... that is soooo funny!! (because I know what you mean!!) dont worry.. got those parts covered!
  6. I know there is a bunch of you guys out in the Minneapolis area... and I am thinking of moving out there around the end of summer if I can (late august?) and it will only be for about a year.. anyone know of any subaru related jobs out there that would pay enough? (ive got good things on my resumé due to working at carter) or other job ideas? anyone looking for a roommate or know of any cheap apartments? throw some ideas at me!
  7. painted!!! how does this look now? not too flashy..
  8. I mounted it as close as I could, so that it doesnt kill the approach, but it actually saves the bumper! I would like ti find some beefy metal to bolt to the bottom of it, as a skid plate now... got any leads on metal? I was thinking about boeing surplus... they have both titainum, and misc forms of "diamond plate" sheets for pretty cheap usually.. also the paint thing.. dont worry.. I will work on that soon
  9. a little EA-on-EJ modding...
  10. I used the impact gun and lots of washers.. and after that, i used a breaker bar and a 2' long 1/2" drive extension (to get leverage outside of the fender) and I cranked down on those top bolts.. all the squeaking/ratteling stopped but, i figured i would never remove them again
  11. turn it into an EV project.... its the perfect canidate I would if I had it! no more gas or oil!!!
  12. you should buy my brat when I am finished, it will be all rust free!! (the tailgate has a spot of rust, but its getting refinished, with an NOS tailgate trim piece too! so it will be all original 87 brat!! also has a "new" reman hitachi carb, with all intact factory emissions for the computer feedback carb... and i could deliver
  13. I think they will, as long as you use the XT6 backing plates and all the lil parts that are off the XT6... its like doing a rear disc swap isnt it? i dont know for sure, i have not done the XT6 swap myself... but I have thought about it! (for my brat!)
  14. if you wont use junkyard axles, but will consider cheap remans.. you might as well only buy the OEM axles.. i have had better luck with every junkyard axle (lasting loger than...) than the alternate parts store remans (almost every cheap reman has broken on me.. way worse than the JY axles! ) so... reccomended, if this is a restoration project.. get OEM new or reman... you cant beat the quality in my opinion...
  15. save up a lot of money..... the people that I know that have done that same thing (about 150hp out of an ea81) spent big $$ to accomplish it.. not to mention a lot of accurate measuring and professional machining of parts... it would actually be cheaper and easier to cram an EJ22 out of a liberty wagon, and then you would have MPFI too! trust me.. i did the EJ22 swap on my previous 1980 GL wagon (look here! http://usmb.net/gallery/album292 )
  16. so the other day, I was idleing in a parking lot.. and randomly the CEL comes on , and the engine starts running real lopey/rough... so i turned off the car, and waited... then started it up again and it was fine... so I took it to work the next day and scanned it with the select monitor, and it said there were no stored codes at all! has anyone had an ECU die on them to where it still operates the car, but doesnt store codes? (94 imp L awd 5spd EJ18)
  17. bummer! sorry to hear- this is not normal, nor is it going to get better.. in fact.. the more you drive it the more broke it will become! I have heard many stories about people that just keep going on them, hoping the problem will go away, but eventually they will find themselves faced with a problem of having a "no-wheel-drive" subaru! and one big towing bill sounds like a 4EAT typical problem.. you will need new transfer clutches, and the transfer clutch duty solenoid from the sounds of it.. but the most typical repair, is a MT swap! or getting a nice reman/low milage junkyard tranny replacement!
  18. the one on the back of the manifold can be plugged.. it was there for emissions things (like ASVs and such) that do not appear to be on that engine- correct on the one on the front of the carb- thats the disty advance! the one you have marked as disty advance, can be plugged, or yes.. the defrost flapper (recirculate) under dash canister goes there... but you can also (and need to) connect the tranny vac line there (use a T fitting if needed) that just supplys a vacuume that manifold seems very simple compared to the one i just finished reinstalling all the hoses and solenoids onto tonight! (87 brat, ea81, hitachi computer controlled electronic feedback carb! ) it also looks like there is a coolant leak near your disty! you should fix that soon, it will lead to bigger problems! (and in case you dont already know, dont use stop leak whatever you do!!! its worse than letting it leak!)
  19. I was riding in Carl's brat (MrCarb) and i belive I remeber waving at the cop that was behind us... he never pulled us over, just looked at us funny- a friend and I were riding out in the seats going home on a rainy day!
  20. well, the problem with installing WRX drivetrain into a brat/brumby is that the 2 cars are... different widths 4 lug/5 lug 3 bolt front struts/3 bolt rears on the WRX, and 2 bolt front and shocks+ tortion bar in the brat.... what I would reccomend... if you just want suspension only (including 5 lug hubs so you can use all the cool wheels out there) redrill your strut towers to accept the 3 bolt strut tops (unless you can change the strut top to the 2 bolt from the EA81 body onto the WRX struts) using XT6 (5 lug) hubs for front and rear (so that the WRX front struts bolt at the carriers) custom axles for the front- probably need to order these online- ask for halfshafts with XT6 CV (outer) axle end, EA81 (brat) axle shaft and DOJ (inner) so you get the right length... I have not done this conversion, but this is the jist of it- check in other threads for XT6 5 lug swap for more info relating to this topic
  21. I have passed 2 cars here with gutted cats... one ea81+weber carb, and one turbo MPFI ea82... they dont do a visual inspection here... at least they never have for me... just a sniff test.. and a dyno run (2wd mode only)
  22. http://usmb.net/gallery/album118 enjoy!
  23. I have a complete SPFI manifold and parts that go with it I could ship out to you. see this thread- http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=34090 (and dont worry, I can get more of them too from the J/Y if someone else buys it and your still interested) let me know if interested, but shipping may be a little more to Austrailia-
  24. interesting.. but check to see if its only the FWD tranny... i have an EJ18 AWD impreza- and its a 5mt also... '94.... this could be a nice suprise for those who want an EJ AWD conversion.. but hey.. FWD works too!
  25. samo- you also accidently left one of your fine flatbladed screw drivers in my imp from the stereo install.. and i also discovered i need to solder those big 4awg connectors at the amp, they popped out on me!!! i am here in the evenings- or weekends.. just IM me on aim!
