  1. I have a EJ22 in my 1980 GL-1600 4wd wagon it does fit!! now if I can just find a wrecked wrx
  2. I work at the dealer.. and have seen all the subaru modles.... the starters are all in the same spot! (this is the easy part) 2 bolts hold the starter to the tranny.. one more holds the batt cable to the starter, and one clip-on wire for the solenoid! viola! its off! now put the new starter in its place!! (remember to disconnect the ground terminal at the battery unless you have plastic wrenches :-p ) on the 99 OB, there might be the airbox housing in the way on that.. i have not actually replaced the starter but it is a very easy task- you should only need- a 10mm, 12mm and a 14mm wrench for this... good luck!
  3. I am actually not that impressed... my turbo 4wd XT got 31mpg doing ~80mph for 300 miles+ and lots of highway hills and such.... in 100 degree summer heat, with an ea82 longblock in the trunk so neener neener! :-p
  4. those days sound good for me too! (I will just plan accordingly to what works for everyone else)
  5. its just sad that I am flying over!! otherwise, you would see the '80 GL-EJ22 wagon!!! I think I will be with either a Jeep, or a Toyota (not sure which one we will be in yet)
  6. I dont know about that one... I havent retorqed my heads on my XT turbo, and it still hasnt done anything bad yet! (and I drive it hard!)
  7. cool! so what time you expecting to be up here?.. maybe we could have a mini meet (swap meet! ) at my house!!! there will be lots of ea parts for sale or give-a-way too....
  8. if your interested, I can give you a deal on a service... I could come and reseal your engine for you, I have a "set price special" on headgasket jobs for board members- 200 bucks (labor) for ea81, 300 for ea82 (tbelts and camboxes take longer) and I could do all your gaskets too if you like... parts cost is extra... (reseal kit is usually about 150 to 170 for ea82T, which I could aslo get OEM from my work) if your interested, let me know- I can get it done in a day assuming the heads are not damaged (if its only a reseal) and the weather is good... I have done my own reseal in my 86 XT turbo- works quite well! doesnt leak a drop and holds up to my excessive use of boosting and I also have done (ea81) headgaskets for EdRach too- which I belive worked well... I noticed you live in spokane though... fuel cost? (30mpg in my XT) hmm...
  9. well, as some of you have noticed... I am selling (trying to) my lifted wagon... so this means I wont be doing much offroading (untill I build my next rig ) but! I would still like to attend events and adventures (no pun intended) to do video and pictures! I can get all the good stuff we commonly miss due to needing to drive the beasts thru the muck.... I also can now edit, create and burn DVD video discs all with my home equipment! would people be interested in buying special edited (effects, voiceovers music and such) DVDs of the hatch patrol and other subaru event videos? if so, I could start making my inital disc, starting with footage from past times, and WCSS6! let me know what you guys think! and on another note. when we went to EC on 10/17/04 did someone get a video of me doing the massive hill climb in the yellow wagon? I would much like to see about getting a clip of that vid!
  10. heh, I am 22 (doesnt it say in my profile? ) but beer isnt my drink of choice... howabout a cube of Dew! (or some coconut rum ) if you have any specific Qs you could email me about it!
  11. welcome to the board  thats a nice wagon! yeah, same as sweet82 said.. my ride when I was 18 was a beat up 83 wagon with over 250k on it
  12. ahhhh mountain dew! the choice drink of mechanics! is that an adaptor block between the soob tranny? or is that not a soob trany? there is so much corrosion there, its hard to tell waht is what :-p
  13. well, i am with the "variety" crowd... I can listen to almost any music, depending on moods and if the station has commercials my favorites for working on soobs- (no particular order) country (new and old) techno (and all variations of it) "old skool rap"/funk/disco 80s and 90s "new wave" smooth jazz  pop classical on occation (movie soundtracks preferred) heavy metal and such... so yeah... uhh... just music! (im working on getting the air compressor into an insulated box )
  14. sorry guys.. as always, saturdays are a no-go (the one day i cant get off of work...) I hope ya'll have fun though!!! bring back pictures/video if ya can!!!
  15. The EJ22 should fit nicer into an Ea82 body then it did on mine.. the Ea81 body is narrower, but the heads cleared the sides, and the Y pipe and mid pipe all fit in there (tight squeese, you willl need to remove the heat shields from the cat to make it fit near the radius rod plates in the ea81 bodys) the front clearance is a lot less, in an ea81 body with the stock rad. I had to use a AC fan mounted at a funny angle, because the tbelt casing and the serpentine style pulley setup (dual belt, AC/alt/PS) put the engine only an inch or so from the fan... (the thin AC fan!) the radiator hoses are a pain just so you know ahead of time... be prepared to customise something in there! the wiring.. I have the whole front harness and ECU that I removed from the wrecked legacy, you need the parts between the ECU<--->Engine and if its wiring from an AT, then ECU<-->TCU<--->Engine with the AT/MT selector wires jumped if you convert to an MT. fuel pump- use ea82T Axles- All the early EJ trannys are 25 spline, so you need to use ea82T MT (25spline) axles. make sure your rear diff matches your front! (4.11? 3.9?) driveline- lengthen it by 55mm or so from ea82 length.. there is a shop in the yakima area that Jerry knows about that has good prices... the EJ temp guage sensor are compatible with the ea series dash... just connect the one yellow wire for temp (you will see it, its on the back of the coolant plentum under the right rear leg of the intake) there are 2 sensors, one for ECU, and one for the guage) the EJ22 has an idiot light oil sender, so you can use that, or you will have to plumb an EA style sender into the EJ's sender's hole- (sender is under the alternator on top of the motor) good luck with the conversion!
  16. and the funny part,(I started the thread) is that I am a Hatch Patrol guy, and I live in WA!! but thats why were meetin up! this looks like it will be a lot of fun though no matter where we end up going! and dont worry about age either! I am sure there will be a large variety with us
  17. that would be sweeeeet! and those pictures look somewhat like the terrain we have here so I may be "right at home" in those woods! anyother possible meet/greet ideas or times? are there any possible events or partys for things such as new years? I dont know what its like over there, but here (in Seattle) the city is lit up with partys all night on new years! (both public and private partys)
  18. well, I will be there from the 20th (Dec) to the 5th (jan) and I will also possibly be showing someone (who I am staying with) how to 'wheel in his jeep.... if there can be such a challenge there (for me, who is used to the carnage of the PNW hills!) obvioulsly it will be difficult to plan around the holidays, but I am sure we could figure one day out! the ice racing sounds like very much fun too, I have always wanted to see/try that!!! (when I saw them do that in the recent Bond movie, it was that much more exciting!)
  19. I will be out in Minnesota (Minneapolis area), traveling for the holidays this December around Christmas and NewYears... so this may be a chance to meet and greet! this is also going to be my first time out in the really cold weather!!! (compared to the PNW ) but unfortunatly, I will be without my subarus... all I will have (this time anyways ) is just pictures and videos of the Hatch Patrol fun! I dont know if it really is relavant to people that I will be over there, but if anyone would like to say hello while I am there, it would be cool! (always fun to meet people on the board when traveling!!!)
  20. here are the pics! http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36/DSCN4940 http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36/DSCN4941 note the chrome tip too!
  21. well, as you know, I have my turbo XT, which sometimes has the apperance of having a lift kit, but it does not, it just rides on 4wd adjustable struts at max height! but today, I decided to go the opposite of my norm... for the first time ever, I *gasp* lowered my car!!!! this was done for the cost of *my time and effort* (about 2 hours) and some old strut assemblys I didnt need anymore (i did not ruin the good ones in the car, they will be saved in case I need to "revert" the process...) so the XT now handles better, the axles stopped making noise (i guess they were just clicking from being hyperextended!!!) and it gets waaaay better traction!!! (forward accel and cornering, in Fwd mode tooo!) pictures tomorrow or wednesday, i still might lower it some more- (havent decided yet) tools used- (besides the usual wrenches to install the struts front and rear) spring compressor, electric cut off wheel and I was expecting it to ride like your usual honda, but ... for some strange reason, It still rides like a normal XT!!!!! (but lower!) tomorrows mission... to furthur pancake it if I can
  22. I also know a guy (hmm wonder who... oh wait, me!) that can do almost anything with these cars... I learn more and more each time I work on them too- I am very negotiable about prices too (bartering and trading allowed sometimes!) you can ask other's about my work ability on them if you wish... some people have seen my abilities at work.... and I have learned from the best! (all of you guys here on the board!!!)
  23. good to hear that your still around!!! good luck with sortin' things out! (I ~kinda~ know how you feel) and have a great road trip!!!
