  1. two things.. first, I added a few more pictures to the album if anyone likes to see picures! http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36?page=10 not many, but a few  second... I was driving near Stevens Hospital in Edmonds, and I saw a red XT, nonturbo 85/86.. very nice condtion, and then right down the street from there, I saw a grey 4 door GL-10 turbo 4wd sedan! with the 14" pug alloys!! was this Corky's??? I dont know?! sure looked like it! if it was not, then there must be a clone running around!!!
  2. in all the EA series cars. even turbo, there should only be one temp sensor, in the thermostat housing.. on ea81, I think it is used for both the gauge and the ECU sensor for "choke" control... thats what it is used for on EJ engines- except on EJ there are 2 different sensors, one for the dash guage, and one for the ECU, but they are sitting right next to eachother on the manifold!
  3. sorry it has taken so long! I have been reformatting/reinstalling system software and such on my computer! but I am back up and running now! so I uploaded a few of the pics I took from Evans Creek meet, on sunday the 17th of October... http://usmb.net/gallery/album289 enjoy!
  4. this is fun stuff here! I should run my own cooking show! anyone else cook things on their engines?
  5. there is a 95% chance I will see you guys at the camp site tomorrow night otherwise, bright and early sunday!! loading the wagon up tonight :-D leaving after work! see ya down there!
  6. heh, i worked too today, but there was hardly anybody in for oil changes today!!! we just sat around, and near the end of the day, we just clocked off and worked on our own cars, while we waited for customers to come... (they never did! lol)
  7. well, i dont think I can make it to the camping portion due to timing reasons... but I will be up bright and early sunday morn to head down!
  8. I have a 1990 Legacy wagon with a 5spd AWD tranny.. and, if your looking, I have a 5spd AWD tranny that will fit right in a early legacy for sale!
  9. well, my argument for the whole cat thing is based on my own car (turbo XT) and the fact that I took it to the very same emissions test stand (same person testing too) back in august... and.. my XT has NO cats or anything but an ugly muffler can... (completely gutted exhaust.. i know, i checked each section of pipe visually and with a coat hangar!) and it passed fine... the fact that I have no vacume leaks, and a clean throttle body and good gas.. and new plugs/wires/airfilter/etc.... might have been the key... and a cooling system with an OEM therm in it... (and not overheating at a stop/hillclimb in 100deg heat/etc..) ok ok ok.. sorry, i am done bragging.. but about the cat thing, i dont think it is completely nessacary... in fact, unless everything else is good.. having one still might not help...? thats just my idea though... i could dig up a emissions results for ya carl (from the XT) if you want to see it.. (they did not run the dyno on it either)
  10. well, i figured out the water problem.. i think! it seems to be bad spark plug wires and insulation.. when it gets wet in the spark plug holes, the high voltage sparks right thru the insulation..... right to ground... so i have some new plugs and wires to install.. and a big tube of dielectric grease but i still have an exposed ECU... so i cant take it into the water too much.... a little mud is fine... but too much can kill.... and to jog you memory, i was in the lightbar wagon, and you were in the sammy and we also had a issue with other broke down trucks on the trail.... ~edit~ would it be more fun if we make this a camping trip for those who like to camp out? I may be able to swing down saturday evening... if my plans work... campfire fun! (isnt there a special upper camping area?? i think that would be the coolest! )
  11. you first eric? last time you were in front of me.. i had to stop and wait we well find out who is faster up the trail! (all in good fun of course!)
  12. oh hey! i remember that mudhole... umm.. i would prefur evans creek... but thats just cause I want to get some good mountain pics! and try 311 and such with the new engine/tires but thats just me.....
  13. but... can this happen on a fuel injected engine? (this is multiport spider intake, stock EJ22 from legacy )
  14. well, as some of you know, I have the 1980 GL wagon with the EJ22 from a 1992 legacy... and it has been running pretty good recently, with the snorkel and all... but... I washed it yesterday at work... (the engine) with degreaser and water.. after that, it barely started up.. it sputtered like it was not firing on 1 or 2 of the cyls... after a little bit of arguing with it, and blasting the coil, TPS, and injectors off with air (to try to dry them) it started to work better... but it still would only idle good, and would rev up only if i gave it 0-10% throttle .. anything above that, it would sputter and try to die again.. so i drove home with the issue.. and it sorta got better, but it would only run correctly at around 0-20% throttle the next morning, i went out and started it up, and it worked better than when i shut it off, this time it reved fine up untill about 80% throttle then flooring was the only time it sputtered... so i let it idle for half an hour (heat up the motor) and it ran fine after that.... drove to buckley just fine, but on the way home the rain got harder (more mist from the roadway too) and then after a few minutes of driving in the hard rain, it started its sputtering thing again!!! and if i gave it WOT, it would stall (nose dive and sputtering, it decellerated worse than if i just let the throttle close!) so all the way home in the rain, i could only give it about 50% throttle max, or else it would sputter and slow way down (and jerk the car back and forth as if i was stepping on and letting off the gas repetedly) any ideas on what this could be?? it seems to be water related, and it probably is not my MAF, because it did it the other day when i washed the engine (i did not spray anywhere the intake) could it be the TPS???? or the coil? maybe the plug wires? or any other sensors sensitive to water? * high milage motor.. do these age poorly? or maybe if it is a ground wire or something that is loosing contact when water gets in there? this is really making driving difficult!!! any info would be much appreciated!!! thanks!!!
  15. I have a little time sunday the 17th this moth in the morning to possibly squeese some play time in.... I would like to keep it farly local, so reiters or evans is good for me.. I will run with unlifted or lifted people if either want to play! I will have a special visitor from out of state with me, and she has never been offroad.. (not in a subaru, and not in the mountains!) and.. it has been overdue for me to test the wagons EJ capability!!! (and the new tires!!!!) so anyone up for a day run???? and a vote, evans, or reiters? (if evans isnt subject to volcanic closure that is!!!) time... morning departure from seattle area return.. whenever we get done later in the day!
  16. 86 XT 4wd turbo, about 120k on it.. recently resealed.. gets about 27 to 31 mpg at 70mph highway driving... about 22 to 25mpg street driving... running stock boost and all that.. and 87 octane (no arco!!!)
  17. well, I work at the Subaur dealer.. and it seems that as far as baja's go.. the MT modles seem to be more popular than the AT... I reallllly despise AT! MT all the way!
  18. I have open belts in the turbo XT too.. inspection and service is quick and easy! and the lovely home made skid plate (covers the whole underside of engine bay) protects the belts from items traveling upward! woohoo for open belts!
  19. hehehe... I just got a welder for a late B-day present from my mom! (220V stick arc) I think I need to get some diff-welding practice in! anyone want to let me try welding their diff as practice? (free if it is a practice run! )
  20. thanks for the info!!! I will examine the govener when i get a chance..... (thats NOT supposed to be dirty! ) hahahahha.... ok.. i have had my fun for this post
  21. thanks for the tips! I will try the flush method first.... if that doesnt work.. the engine will be pulled out (i cant remove the valve covers with the engine in the car, its in a 1980 wagon! ) and its been a few days with the ticking.... *flushing*
  22. hey! guess what!!! my wagon has an air filter and exhaust now!!!! woohoo!!!! lets give it a test run.. but not too harsh.. my electronics are still on the fritz (and not protected from the elements) but the snorkel is in place
