best way to paint a car on the cheap?
Ratty2Austin replied to nicky nighteyes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I spent less than 40 bucks on krylon paint and supplys... about 4 cans per color... (primer layer, than color) and 2 cans grey.... I am gonna re-coat it for more shine.... but it turned out great, and is fairly scratch resist... takes only a few hours- take a look http://usmb.net/gallery/album218 -

yeah, i guess it would make more sence if you knew what one of Jamie's jobs at carter is... she sells stuff online.. so her job is emailing and posting replys to people... people that buy stuff online from carter... so she is already extra-busy on NASIOC and such, selling stuff for carter, and when she trys to put her own personal time in, its like being at work... and you know how that gets- but like i said, I will see if I can talk to her. thanks for understanding -
My wagon has its new tires! and a new carb.. I replaced the weber with the origional Hitachi... it runs much smoother now, and idles correctly  woohoo.... although, not as much oomph (although not soo noticable) here is a pic of my new tires- http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36/DSCN2985 my weber is for sale, with the manifold and modified throttle cable and mounts.. (ready to bolt on to a ea81!) and I will have the issues repaired with it before selling too.. (i just need to replace the needle and seat, and finish cleaning it out)

Hey... I do work directly (in the same building) as Jamie, and she does want the car, and as far as we have discussed, not pulling your chain. she is a very busy person... on a daily basis, she is always very stressed out, so please be patient, she is starting her race season, ( I helped her dismount the skid plate on the WRX and changed the oil with her just the other day) I did also talk to her about the 73, and she is ready to get it, other than time.... it looks like I will probably be accompanying her or whoever comes out that way to pick up the car, assuming it is a day that I have off- to help out with finding the place, and just another visit to Moxee when I see her at work, I will find out if she has seen this post yet... -
I am guessing you are talking about where the clutch cable mounts to the pedal cluster? howabout carls brat? 84 and 83 should be mostly the same?

I cant get my car to idle at all... there are no vacume leaks... checked that.. it revs up ok, but when it is supposed to go to idle, or when it drops down to the low (under 2k) rpms, it runs real chunky, and studders.... I looked down the primary barrel, and where the fuel is sprayed out (the jet outlet?) it is a wet dribble, not a mist like it should be- I cleaned out the whole carb (took out all the jets and cleaned the whole thing in chem dip) and put it all together, and it did the same thing...!!!! could something be broken, or worn out?? i am having nothing but trouble with this carb.. and i am tempted to go back to hitachi! (never had this much trouble!) any ideas or suggestions? my wagon is dead untill this is solved!!

well we made it home, after a wild fun crazy adventure around washington state (and a little bit in oregon too!) day 1, saturday... we started out at my work, at 6pm.... went to my house to pick up people, and then headed out... stopped at Zekes drive in on highway 2, to meet up with Matt and Leanne... then we proceeded up and over Stevens pass, and stopped for gas and snacks in leavenworth (at like 11pm) after not too much longer, we arrived at the "campsite" and set up...there were 2 tents, and one wagon sleeper... its amazing how one front passenger seat can hold people sleeping in it! next morning, day 2, sunday. waking up to nice quiet morning sun... and a lot of moisture in the car (it was raining inside!) but it was still nice compared to a wet tent... got everyone up finally... thanks to Erik bringing the wonderous propane grill! and spam and eggs!!!! I dropped the spam when it slid out of the can, but nothing a little water cant fix! we ate breakfast, and then played around the camp.. climbed up the hill and looked in an old mine. we then packed up, and drove up Old Blewett Pass Highway, to find more rocks and hills to climb, and we also came up to a snow bank on the road, where a RAV4 was stuck.... we pulled him out with waterwagon, and then told him how to do the "speed thru" style of offroading... so he gunned it, and made it thru! we kept going, but decided to go back to Leavenworth, and tour the town. we had fun, ate some chocolate, cheese and pepperoni from misc tourist stores, and then headed out on our way back up Blewett Pass, (highway 97) Matt's hatch decided to blow out a rubber plug (the ones that PAP put into the oil pan when they stab it and drain the oil) and he lost all of his oil in 10 secs...!!!! the only option was to replace the pan, and so we contacted Jerry in Seleah, and he was able to get a pan, but he couldnt bring it to us... we ended up using waterwagon to rope tow the hatch about 60 miles up 2 more passes all the way to Seleah, where matt could fix it. finally fixed at about 9pm, and we continued on our way- we got to the Oregon border, and went into Biggs.... we had ... dinner?... at a 24hr Mcdonalds! then we drove down I-84 a little farther, and found a picknick/rest stop area... we pulled in and made a triangle out of the cars, and 3 of us camped right on the pavement (sleeping bags only) and the rest were in the cars... day3.. monday morning awakening at 6:15... a train blows by about 20 feet from where we were sleeping!!! but we got a good morning start. we drove up to Mary Hill, where the replica Stonehenge is, and had breakfast there (in the parking lot) we played around a little bit, then headed out back on the highway 14 west... we stopped at a place thats off the side of the road, where there is a lot of rock climbibg area, and we hiked around there for quite a while... lots of good view points, and nice climbing areas! once "finished" there, (we were starting to get dehydrated from the heat and the running around) we pushed on.. I thought it would be fun and more scenic if we took a different path than the major highways, so I looked at the map and saw a road system that went between Mt Adams, and Mt St. Helens, and we started up that way... the high altitude climb began... we kept getting higher and higher, then realised that there was more and more snow on the roadways (yes, it was still about 80 degrees though!) we got to a spot where the snow was too deep to even get the lifted subarus thru (it was more like compact ice, which we couldnt push out of the way) from there we turned around. headed back to the main highway along the Coumbia, then up I-5 where it became a subaru trio race... though they couldnt really go over the speed limit much, it was still a fun race.... the pictures are all in my album, http://usmb.net/gallery/album189 all in all, it was a fun time, we will have to do this again with a bigger croud (and maybe with spare parts?)

i have done it! Muhhahahahha!!! it is... well, not DONE, but done enough to justify spending a lil more time to finish and polish and clear coat it later... but for 35 bucks worth of paint... it worked out well! I present the magic of krylon! http://usmb.net/gallery/album218 (thanks Matt and James for helping the speedy one day job) I will add more explanation later.. these are the pics!

OhoOHO!HH!!!!! I have a big request!!!! can you PLEASE find out if the stub shafts on the diff, between the full time tranny (should be 25 spline, "turbo") and the N/A (23 spline, the one in the picture) are interchangable!??? (mission= find out if you can make a FT4wd D/R tranny fit ea81 axles, aka 23 spline output shafts) that would be THE most helpful thing that dissasembeling those two trannys can bring us! thanks a bunch ahead of time

Hey Washington St. Weber carb owners
Ratty2Austin replied to 84SOOB's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
just for the record, my wagon (and 2 other ea81 cars with and without webers) I have worked on, have passed fine without the EGR even hooked up. you can block it and still pass the worst of seattle area emissions, webere carb or hitachi. (FYI, my wagon is weber'ed, and it passed just fine) -
well, i checked out the area... it is soo nice- lots of room, no pay camping, nice dirt roads and some snow in areas! there is a possibility I can get monday off of work, which will extend the dates to include- saturday evening departure, sunday , monday and tuesday morning (tuesday noon return home) so does that open things up for people?

hey, if you want... I can rope tow with you... and if you dont trust yourself with that, I have a few friends who are good at it (we do it all the time) we will just have to do it on like a sunday.... (my day off on the weekend) do you have a large vehicle with an AT? if not, we can still use a subaru.. it worked for me many times

dont get what? did I miss something? *experiencing blond moment again* -
for those who would like to tag along.. a couple of us are planning to go camping at the old blewett pass highway area, on the days of april 26 to the 28th .. a monday evening depart, (after I get off of work) then a wednesday eve. return (wed and tue are my days off for some reason) the plans for fun are just to enjoy the scenic area of eastern washington, and leavenworth tourism! a little offroad will be involved.. any car can make it, lifted or not... we might go mountain biking too, if the weather and such permit... but otherwise, it will just be a fun social camping/gathering! and a mild hatch patrol "beginner" shakedown (for those who are just becoming part of the fun as well as those who are experienced too) the site i am plannin on, has no hook ups, and no real parking... and if it has not changed sence the last time I was there, there is no fees either (its real woods camping!) so be prepared! (bring your own supplies) anyone interested? if not this time, should we plan another?? (there will be more!) let me know on this post or by email if you want to attend!

woohoo! i feel special as well! my car also made it on there! (was that pic the one I took?) fun fun fun! -
I have been to the lynnwood one before too... I agree about the distractions part... but, it wasnt the best I have seen (this is when I was in high school when I went, and the gilrs at my school were much more impressive as far as attractiveness) the food as I remember it, wasnt that great either, thus I have only been there once or twice- it might not help that I am not a "sports" type of person either... on another note, if you go down to Alki beach, or Greenlake on a nice day...
-
well, also to replace the 85 wagon that blew its head gaskets.... the ea82s are just too touchy to mess with (for my mom who does not take care of cars at all!) so anyways, i picked up this nice 84 GL wagon, 4wd AT.. power steering... AC, sunroof and digidash that works! it runs nice a quiet, drives smooth... and its in farly nice shape! score! http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36/DSCN2599 you may see it around the lynnwood/lake city area....

same as mentioned above also, emphasis on the good axles, gaskets of a good variety... and other misc. hop ups! I wonder if they can be a seller of lift kits? (ex: PK makes them, sells them to bow wow, and they can sell them to customers who dont like to hassel with "ordering".., or somethign like that) and re-man or new engine parts for older engines- like ea81 longblocks, shortblocks, heads... that sort of thing! -
I have a parts car for sale... *hint* (its another 86 brat) and its cheap.... with lots O parts! that is cool! I wish i had a running brat... *sigh*
-
