82 brat exchange to 93 powerplant
Ratty2Austin replied to tim davis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I belive this post by Tim was supposed to be linked to the 82 brat to 93 conversion thread... please repost in that thread- (can moderators join this thread to the other one??) -
i dont get it... everyone seems to have trouble finding a belt for a removed-AC car... in my turbo XT, i removed the AC stuff, and I used the same belt- all i had to do was adjust the alt all the way out... have you tried that? and yes, I agree- if it is a nice XT, you should not strip it or un-origionalize it at all.. they are so rare!! I am trying to restore mine, and if you do take stuff out, let me know!! (need some radio+console pieces, and a rear seatbelt roll up unit (drivers side) but if you are looking to make it faster, have you considered intercooler, and adjustable boost pressure?

i got all but the windshield tinted, all the rear windows are 5% VLT, and the front side windows are 35%VLT, (supposeldy the legal limit for an "offroad" vehicle) ummm... well, troys wagon also doesnt have a tough return spring on the carb, nor does he have all that weight in the car (mine was so loaded down i couldnt see out the back just about) but his car is running pretty good... except when he tries to do dougnuts in the snow
-
well, the tint job was cheaper for me cause i did some bartering and trading... and some work for the guy, but the normal price for a wagon is around $300ish (a pro finish) he did a really good job, and he is also the same guy who did subiegal's black RS impreza the white wagon in the video is Troy's 84 wagon- (randomizer) his hitachi was havin trouble spinning up the engine when he went into the leaning corners...

He he he,..... got my windows tinted yesterday.... in the wagon... pics up on the album- heres one http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36/DSCN1879 I also uploaded a video clip of my wagon drifting in the snow @ Stevens pass (in the ice parking lot)

i think it belongs to the earl schive (spelling?) up by harbor freight in everett.. i see it in their parking lot all the time....

if the symptoms are what Miles Fox just described, (the same symptoms I had in my 83 high school wagon) then the question I have for you, is what kind of gas are you using? I used to run arco cause it was cheap... but now i only use texaco, cheveron, 76, shell, etc... cause my wagon would stall out at about 3k to 3500 rpms, (using arco) then i switched to texaco, and it was a noticable difference! (i was able to shoot up hills at 4500 to 5000 rpms!) (arco "gas" has water in it.. runs in some motors, doesnt seem to run in most) try that... and maybe a tune up too

My baby is crooked! Suggest a frame shop (WA)
Ratty2Austin replied to Subarutex's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my brother had his volvo taken to a frame shop off of 128th (airport road) in everett area a while back.. they straightened the bowed body and frame out well... I dont remember quite where it is, but I can probably find it again if i drove around in that area- (by memory) -
1.8ltr turbo and dual exhaust ports
Ratty2Austin replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
even the EA82 turbo is single port exhaust... all EA engines are single port on the exhaust, but yes, they are multiport on the intake (except spfi and carbed) the EJ are all dual port, except the EJ22 from 96? (there was one goofy model, one year only, where they made an EJ22 single port!) it sucked, so they went back to the standard mpfi... -

ej20 in a old school subaru
Ratty2Austin replied to ryer_s's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
heres the deal though.. the EJ20 and the EJ25, (the DOHC models) are too wide to fit without frame mods, but the EJ22 and the EJ18, will both fit nicely if i remember right... I think they are even narrower than ea82s, which means they will fit into an ea81 body too. then you have to figure out your tranny situation the EJ trannys use 25 spline output shafts (only turbo MT ea82 and XT6 axles will fit... (and the crossmember mounting system is different) the EA trannys will line up on the bottom studs and the center shaft, but the top is different... and remember the ECU and wiring! -
hello everyone

dudes and dude-etts.... and all who care- (and those who dont too) everyone needs to remember that the board is not a place to "flame war" eachother out... just cool down, and tolerate eachother like a real person! (settle your diferences in a nicer way) like, find out why people act the way they do, and learn to cope with peoples issues and not make them more mad by aggrivating things. anyways, go have fun and relax... i will see you all later -
Oregon Off-Road Subaru Club's Anual X-Mas Tree Run
Ratty2Austin replied to mudrat79's topic in Off Road
yes, I will be uploading the pics into my album... I had fun, the deal with the turbowagon didnt work the way we expected... so I ended up with a different wagon, but it was still nice! the snow was great, it isnt quite as deep as it was here in WA, but it was nice and snowy (falling)... I wish I could have had my wagon or the XT with me, but driving the turbowagon was still fun in the snow, I didnt get stuck once... although driving with out snow tires is a bit slick! getting to meet John (aside from WCSS5) and see the weeble (without its impressive tires) was nice, and I am glad he had a wagon that was what I was looking for... I hope to be able to come down soon again to hang out with more of the oregon offroad group! (well, I do need to come down soon anyways to pick up a car again! ) -
I made it to Albany OR! I am at Andrews house right now, in the morning we are gonna work things out with the turbowagon/legacy swap deal.... then we will see you guys on the tree run hopefully! sounds like you hada somewhat fun trip , despite the little problems!

Ratty2Austin replied to mudrat79's topic in Off Road
Ok, I am loading the legacy up tonight, and I will be on my way down tomorrow after work, arriving at Andrew's place sometime in the evening/night... (probably closer to night/morning!) anyways, if anyone plans to tag along, you better be ready to go and waiting at Carter Subaru for me at exactly 4:30pm! (be a little early if you need to be) cause then I will be heading down! -
sorry it took so long to post my reply to this, but yeah it was fun! I wish i had some better tires, and a lift, but the wagon worked out surprizingly well for having no meat on the tires! I had to stop a few times to take the wheels off hte front to dislodge rocks from the brake splash guards so they didnt eat my discs up.... it was rather diffucult driving in the snow with almost bald peugot 14" street tires (from pap) and no lift.... but i seemed to get the hang of it quick, I would like go play in the snow again! I also have uploaded some of my pics- http://usmb.net/gallery/treehunt
