  1. sounds like we are in for another reiters run! or I had another thought if you want to do some snow exploring, and some tourist trap style showing of the subarus! ----> Leavenworth over in Eastern WA, right on SR2- ans as for the offroad part of that trip, to head up to the old Bluett pass highway (spelling?) (old hwy 97) cause there is a lot of neat roads and scenery over there....
  2. 2 of us? i thought there were 3.... :eh: (I have a Patti with me) anyways, i will specify the details on the phone tonight....
  3. I havent helped too many ot of ditches. or things of that sort, but i did tow that full size van down hwy99 with the XT!
  4. I doodle and draw and do random acts of art here and there... people have told me I am good ... but that is all in the eye of the beholder! anyways, are you collecting art to put on your page from different people? or maybe links to art of others? i might be able to find some of mine...
  5. well, the plan would be to head down friday right after work... as soon as I can get off and get on the road! (about 430-5pm-ish) if you would like to join in on the fun (and be a good buddy system due to me being crazy driving a 4EAT that distance without knowing how long it will last me) just let me know before thursday eve.... Andrew- we need to talk more about the tradin and stuff... the specifics... when would be a good time to talk? I have free long dist and free night and weekends...(which only leaves us with weeknights, after 9pm) so if sometime in the evening is good let me know, or just give me a call- try after 9 and before 11pm or so...
  6. this is what was left of the brakes.... you think its been too long since it needed pads? or rotors? or attention at all????? wow is all i can say! http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36/DSCN1397
  7. oops, for some reason I was thinking portland when i was thinking of where you live... but thats what i meant
  8. I may be there.. if things go right with the trade with Andrew- bringing the legacy down to Portland, and picking up the turbowagon! and possibly crashing with someone in the portland area friday night- then going to the Eugene area to see the shop if thats cool with mudrat? anyways, I will find out more soon!
  9. Troy just picked up a 84 GL wagon, to end his troubles of the 80 + 83 wagon... we got to my house from fall city just fine, then we had to do a quick radiator install, and a tune-n-wash.. then when he went to go home, he got about 10 blocks from my house, and i got a phone call- "Austin, can you come get me?? i need a jack, a spare tire (unless i find mine) and some lug nuts" his front drivers wheel fell off after going around a corner in the neighborhood!!! but we got it fixed, unfortunately, the brakes are more than used up, the rotors are half way eaten up!!! (its way past metal to metal! it ate thru the vents in the center of the rotors!!!!) here is what happend- http://usmb.net/albums/albuo36/DSCN1354.jpg and to make my day "better" this is all at about 1am, and I have work at 8am!
  10. I could, but I wouldnt like to make it a 2 way trip for the legacy.. and I am also going on the Xmas tree run.. unless you think you might want to trade this weekend...? I can take pics if you want and send them in the next day or so (before friday)
  11. we just got back from Yakima, and along Canyon Road, we decided to take a little trip thru the river! it was fun.... pics are in the album- http://usmb.net/albums/albuo36/DSCN1301.jpg
  12. ahh! i have always wondered the same thing! I see them all over here- (well, when I work at the dealer, I guess thats a good reason to see them all the time! )
  13. is there supposed to be snow? sounds like fun! I would rather go the Dec. weekend, just cause there is soo much going on the Nov. weekends for me- wonder which car I should take....
  14. yes, the vacuume leak caused by that little dealy-bob not being plugged up will cause the idle to change enough to make it not pass emissions.... i should know, i barely passed because of that same problem- my wagon with the weber... once i found that same hole, i plugged it up, and it idled soo smooth and low, now it can smoothly run at about 300rpms and not die!! (i am the master weber adjuster now! )
  15. it was very fun!, I am bummed that I didnt have a lifted car this time, but the XT did well for what it was I got it pretty dirty, it needs a major steam cleaning now on the inside... after playing around at reiters, Subafly and I went up to the pass to play in the snow!! and sure enough, when we got there, there was a lot of it! (and the parking lots were compact too, which made for some fun drifting and doughnuts!) but after all the fun is over with and on the way home by myself (well, my car and its passengers) the CV on the turbo side is now clicking- so its time to do some more work on it! it was nice meeting more people from the board, and getting a chance to go offroadin with you guys again- we defanately need to get together again and go to a snow park next time! ... will the xmas tree hunt have snow? pictures are posted in my album!
  16. wooooooohooooooooooo!!!! tried the spacer idea (from the other thread) and it works great! (although i still had to get out the air chizel and zap it a few times to pound the tunnel out.... but now it doesnt rub at all, and it runs great! It runs much better on the freeway with the different gear ratios, and the linkage is not as sloppy as the 4spd either thanks Jerry, despite the weird issues some of us have had, your kit works just fine! (just some of our cars that are different than the brat need some special add-ons) now if i can just figure out the clutch cable thing.....
  17. I have a stash of them... so if you come by my place either day this weekend, or whatever works for you, you can have one- give me a call if you need directions (206)-910-0179 (cell)
  18. So, back to the question I was Really asking... what about the clutch cable!!!??? is it just my car or has anyone else had a cabe thats too short also?
  19. I used to own a 360, but it was before I knew of this board, and before I could even drive.... (well, I had my permit, and technically the van was my dad's) but anyways it was a 1969 360 delux van... it ran and drove! but had no brake lines, and the tranny had a jammed 3rd and 2nd gear, but 1st, 4th and R, worked.... it was in very nice shape too.. my Dad decided it was too hard to fix at the time, and so he sold it and kept the Austin Healy (my first car) but as we all know about british cars! (i think the subaru would be done and driveable now if i had it, and the healy is still not!) anyways there are 2 pics on the USMB photo album.. heres one of them- http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36/austinsubaru anyone know where this car is??? I think the new owner is in the Portland area, according to rumor....
  20. the only think I will stress with an high milage EA82 car- is check the cooling system!!! if they overheat, the motor will most likey be toast.. (or at least will need to be ripped apart and repaired) I know this from experience! (my last 88 GL wagon had a bad radiator.. it overheated, and I blew the new headgaskets (and the previous engine overheated too, and the heads cracked) make sure you use the proper mix of antifreeze (my preference is GM's "Dex-Cool" the orange stuff) and then make sure your electric fans work when supposed to if vehicle is stopped, and engine is running at temp) and that the thermostat is good... and of course watch out for those pinhole leaks and crusty hard hoses that will break easily! good luck
  21. well, If I remember correctly, this kit was designed to fit a brat that normally came with a ea81 4wd D/R 4spd tranny. we tried to install the kit into a 80 GL-1600 (smaller tunnel) and Matt's AT 83GL-T wagon (well, it was a AT!) I think the best thing that could be done to solve this situation, is to research the differences with the trannys, clutches, cables and all parts that could be used and make a set of instructions that explain which parts can and cant be used with eachother... does anyone know about the thicknesses of the turbo clutch and pressure plate VRS a N/A pressure plate? maybe it is thicker, causing the fork arm to me moved farther away from the cable?
  22. ok, so troy's wagon has no power still... we have found a plug that was not plugged in, but they have different ends on them. in my 80 wagon there is a jumper that someone made for it and it works... but in troys, we made one and we cant figure out why the car is still not getting power at all... does anyone know about this part of the wiring? please! this is soo frustrating! http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36/DSCN1098 this pic is what i am having trouble with, and the wires between my fingers- (between the 2 white plugs) are what we stuck in there with connectors to try to get it to work
  23. Jerry- it is not your kit that I am complaning about, the kit works just fine in fact. sorry for the confusion, but the problem that I am having is not related to what you make in the kit, but has to do with the parts I have used in the other part of the conversion the problem- the clutch cable I selected to use, which worked fine on my ea81 4 spd D/R, is not long enough to use with the ea82 D/R tranny and clutch set that I have in my car. if people are saying that cables in ea82s are different lengths, then can someone with a ea82 turbo (FT4wd) take a measuement and then compare it to an N/A ea82 4wd D/R clutch cable (just measure the ends where they go into the shift fork) and see if they are in fact a different size... (Tex, dont you have a set of N/A and Turbo ea82s?? ) so, Jerry, please dont give up the work you do- it seems to work fine for the cars it was meant for, I think I am having rubbing trouble (and matt too) because we put them in a car that was not the same measurments as the cars you built them for (aka the 84 and 86 brats) I did look at the 80 wagon's tunnel, and compared it to the 86 brat's tunnel and they are different- the 80's is skinnier, so I just forgot to pound it out!... anyways thanks for the info so far! ( I will try the spacer idea)
  24. thats the thing, I do have an ea81 clutch cable- because I already had the ea81 D/R tranny installed when I removed the 1600 tranny... and the ea82 clutch cables dont fit the ea81 due to the mounting style at the pedal side of the cable... or do they?
  25. so I am most of the way thru the 5 spd upgrade on my 80 wagon, but i am running into some weird problems that other people seem to have not had, or at least i have not heard about them problem 1- the tranny rubs, or is pressed against the tunnel at the linkage bolt and the doo-dad on the other side of the tranny from the linkage... (circled in red in the pic http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36/5spdrubbing am I supposed to pound this part out? did anyone else do this? or have this problem? Matt- you probably should check this on your wagon too... problem 2 the clutch cable is not long enough to put thru the release fork, and put the lock nut on the end... i can barely get the lever nut on it (see pic) http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36/DSCN1090 people have told me that their cables are too long... why is mine different? is there a different length cable for ea81s? i have a ea81, with an ea81 clutch cable, and a ea82 5spd d/r, and an ea82T clutch set on a ea81 flywheel. i can drive the car, but i dont want to drive it with the rubbing linkage and the lack of lock bolt on the cable... what should or could i do?
