went to yakima to pick up an XT for Dave... Jerry trailered it from where it was parked, about 30 mi from the shop- and we cleaned it up, checked and filled the fluids, installed a battery, and started it up! it drove all the way back to seattle without any trouble, with the exception of the batt or the starter not working properly.. (we just left it running the whole time, even when we filled it up! so now Dave has an XT, very much like mine! pics are on the photo album http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36/DSCN1072 http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36/DSCN1081 http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo36/DSCN1082 fun stuff!

the painted dashboard... very interesting the way its turning out... unfortunately, even with the whole new wiring harness (from a 83GL 2wd wagon) it still has no power... do we need the ECU plugged in, for the car to have power with the key on??? (at the moment, ther is no ECU, but the plug is there) http://usmb.net/albums/albuo36/DSCN0905.jpg

Bubbles/Foam in Power steering????why!?
Ratty2Austin replied to Ratty2Austin's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i will try the lock to lock bleeding method, thanks! -
well, thismorning my mom came down and woke me up, and was saying "its snowing!" so I looked outside, and sure enough, there were some big fat snowflakes comin' down! but now it is sunny.... oh well! better than rain! now I need to go do a tranny swap....
-
ok, so my power steering pump died on my turbo XT, so I replaced it with another one from a parts XT, and it workes, but it still makes the same sound the old one did before it died (a weird moaning/whining sound) and it is also doing the same thing the last one did- it is foaming the ATF up badly!! will this kill my next pump? what is causing this? if anyone has had this happen or knows whats going on, please tell! thanks!

so i fixed my mom's legacy's engine, and now the tranny is starting to flake out!! it seems to "slip" when going around corners (like, if i step on the gas or try to even maintain speed around a corner, the engine revs up like its been put into neutral, and then "pops back into drive" when it becomes level again... (of course this is with it in drive the whole time) and to top things off, someone decided to break the power antenna off, so it dangles by the wire off the side of the car! :madder: so I have been thinking about just trading the legacy away for a ea81 wagon... a nice one... so that i can do away with all the stupid little problems that come with an 4EAT, 91LS legacy! but, she sais she likes the feel of the heavier car (she called my 80 wagon a "tin can!" , and the nice interior of the legacy (blue velour, LS) so I wonder if anyone would want to trade a nice ea81 (an 83 or 84 GL or GL-10) wagon for a legacy wagon??? or else... i need to do a tranny swap! (i want to go to the 5spd, but then I would have to convert all the little extras and stuff)

is this a used kit? or a new one? well, even if it is used, as long as its all PK stuff, and as long as all the bolts are there and not stripped, and as long as the parts arent bent! then i will whip out some cash! are you gonna be in the area any time soon? when could i get this lift? *getting excited* email me or give me a call (prefer after 430pm) thanks!

well, you know my number! make sure you have new belts ready to go to install give me a call after 430 daily or anytime on the weekends -
i know PK doesnt make a 4/4, that was actually a "special request" if he could do that... but if not, then a 4/3 would be cool too but yes, I am also ready for a lift! so just let me know when they are ready
-
so has anyone gotten ahold of PK davis? I would like to get a 4/4 lift for an ea81 wagon from him (if he can do that one for me) so if anyone knows the best way to get ahold of him let me know-

Fun day at the junkyard :) LONG
Ratty2Austin replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
definately a good day for the both of us, and randomizer too- (Troy) we went there to grab a wiring harness for an 83-85 ea81/ ea71 engine harness- for Troys engine in his wagon... but after we got that, we decided to go see what was new in the yard- we grabbed some gas struts for the liftgate on the wagon (cause Troys will get you in the back of the head if your not careful...) then i looked over to the next row, and I was like- "dude! look, a puegot!!" "and it has the steels on it!" so Troy was like "well, seince you have alloy 15s on your wagon already, I want those!" so I let him go for them... but then i ventured around to the back of the pug wagon to look for the spare, and i glanced into the back of the wagon, and there was another 3 pug 14" steels!!! and then spare to match!!!! i was really excited then! so now Troy and I have matching set of 4, 14" steel (oval slot) pugs! (yes, we brought home 8 pug 14" in the 80 wagon) now its time for me to get some meats! and a lift! -
yes, my ea81 with ALL emissions stripped off of it, passed WA, king/sno county emissions- and to make it even easier for you, mine passed with the timing waaaay off and a vacume leak! (so get it all right and it will pass without any probs! go to the usmb photo section and look at my pics- there is a pic of my weber's linkage setup, and you can see the lack of stuff on the manifold

Putting an A/T in neutral while stopped?
Ratty2Austin replied to TROGDOR!'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Dude! thats totally how I drive autos! I drive the delivery subaru at work like that, and my impreza, and everythign auto! (I hate that annoying feeling that if i lift my foot up the car starts going forward) and i think it is easier on the car, in fact it is easier on the brakes as well! (needs less force to slow to a stop cause the car is no longer pushing forward) i suggest using neutral often! -
$#&^%$@%!!!!!!! Ahhhhhh!!!!
Ratty2Austin replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hey, I just happen to have a full set (somewhere around here) of pushrods for an ea71! free if you come get them- (and if we can find them all) they are on one of the parts engines in the shop.... -
so troys wagon has some major wiring problems- someone tried to splice in some weird stuff, and in the process of hotwiring the car too this person ruined all of the ignition wires.... so the car right now has a new fuel pump, and an ea71 with what looks like the standard ignition coil (my wagon has some box on top of the coil, and it says "transistor ignition" and Troy's wagon does not have that... anyways, we can get the car started for a short period of time, but then when we turn the key to the off position, the car stays running, or even if I unplug the ignition switch, it still stays ruinning! so what I want to do is wire in my own wires and switches to the ignition coil, and the fuel pump. what I am unsure about, is how the coil needs to plugged in to work, cause it looks like it is not just a power supply lead to the coil- does anyone have a schematic on how to hook this up?? thanks!

tips on pulling engine/transaxle:'81wagon
Ratty2Austin replied to DaveAP's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I dont know if you have done one of these before, but I have found it is easy to remove the engine first, then the tranny- but maybe thats just me! reason being, is that its kinda a long , and you might run into trouble trying to get the engine and tranny to clear the firewall and the radiator support bars... besides- if your pulling the engine anyways, just undo the 2 bolts, and the 2 nuts on the lower studs, and the engine will seperate form the tranny! -
