  1. Here is a video clip from the day at the beach....
  2. Thanks! Hopefully, yes... it would seem that each time I build a 'wheeler, I get better at it, at least in the department of functional/quality... since I learn from the previous projects, I know what little things I could do better on the next ones... besides general maintenance, (which this one needs a bunch very soon) I am hoping to give this one the OB strut lift, probably the same tires my previous WW's have had (27" BFG A/T) but this one, I hope to get an actual lift kit of some sort, and converting it to a D/R part-time 4wd tranny... (yeah, EA-EJ back-wards swap time!) oh, and of course, a better looking, water-tight, snorkel! My biggest problem at the moment right now though, is money.. of course, I would love to do some wheelin' and dealin' (car parts sell/swap, or fixing cars for moola, of course!) to get the parts I need to make this happen.. hopefully I can figure my job shortage out so I can afford to get the parts to make this happen!
  3. 6 years ago on V-day, a few of us went to Long Beach, WA.. and had some fun on the beach.. it was a rainy day, and I had just a plain old 1980 GL-1600, with an ea81 and a 4spd D/R..... this wagon had taken a little stroll on the beach, and I drove it into the water- quite the splash-fest too! It had later been modified with an Ej22, 5spd d/r, lift kit and a snorkel... Waterwagon 1- back in the day.... Waterwagon 2.... (not the same story) but it did end up getting a Ej22 hack-job, and a OB strut lift and some awesome bumpers, and of course, the snorkel! This V-day, 6 years later, my current wagon made the same journey to Long Beach, and I also took it for a little swim in the Pacific Ocean! (to kick off it's life as Waterwagon 3!) More adventures to follow soon!
  4. Of course, I have a few.. I probably should go back in the archives and upload some of the good ones from the past! Water Wagon 2 - oh yeah, and it's bad to offroad at night... you could almost fall off an edge! hopefully, I will have some shots of the (soon-to-be) Waterwagon3 doing some fun offroad stuff! (once all the lift bits are in place)
  5. I dont recall seeing this in this thread, but to answer the clicking-CV problem after installing the OB struts- when you install the struts, to eliminate the clicking of CVs, you need to also unstall the lift-spacers from the outback- they are little mini-lift kit blocks that go in all the usual lift kit places, (like between crossmembers, etc) this makes it so the angle of the CVs don't change as much when you put the taller struts in
  6. Ok... Just got all my photos uploaded!! I will get around to posting some of the "favorites" soon, but for now, here is the link to the gallery, and you should all go have a look when you have time! beware- there are tons of photos, slow internet not recommended!! Enjoy!!
  7. Actually, I think that is a paved road- or if not, it is dirt- but beware- dont go rallying around too fast, there is traffic on those roads, including Forest Rangers (Police)! but those FS roads are public roads unless gated off (usually open unless closure due to snow/washout) I have taken a few motorcycle trips on those roads recently, they are quite nice in that area
  8. the 2 big lines (about 3/4 inch thick) that go into the firewall are your heater core lines, dont remove those!!! they are full of coolant and your car will overheat/leak without them there.... besides, you might want the heater to keep working too ;)

the brake booster line is the 1/2inch thick vacuum line that goes to the big round can behind the brake master cyl. it should connect to it's own larger manifold connection poking off the top of the intake near the alternator....

can you attach photos to an email and send them to awestphalphoto@gmail.com ?

  9. Depending on the status of my wagon, I might come to this- If I don't wheel, I would love to catch a seat in someone else's and I would be happy to take lots of photos/video of all the carnage!!! just like "old times" Yeah, I remember "HPSS1" I had the "towtrucklight" wagon.... and Noah followed me all the way home to make sure I made it there with my broken/missing axles
  10. (optional) you might want to keep the defrost flapper hose- this one goes to the firewall and connects directly to the intake manifold on the right side of the car... you can remove this hose if you like, but then you will not be able to change to defrost with the heater controls inside...

everything else can be removed and plugged for full-emissions removal. to do this, remove all except the ones I described above, and plug the holes on the intake manifold or carb with rubber plugs. The EGR can be blocked with bolts or make a metal gasket out of a pop can and squish it in between the EGR piece and the intake.

oh, and you will NEED to keep the main PCV hoses connected!! without them you will have major engine problems- but to simplfy them, one side of the engine's valve cover goes to the PCV valve on the intake, and the other side goes to the air intake box (on top of the carb)

    thats it!

    Hope this helps!

    ~Austin

  11. Hi there, it may have been an old photo from the old USMB site that may be gone now... I don't know if I still have the photos of the emissions delete, but if I find them I will put them up on my new photo site :)

However, the emissions delete is pretty simple if you have an EA81.... or carbed EA82?

    What you need to keep-

the distributor advance- this line comes off of the front of the Hitachi carbs, usually it goes into one of those metal vac pipes that will snake around under the intake and end up right next to the distributor- you can eliminate that long metal line and replace it with a direct hose from the distributor advance to the front of the carb...

you will need a brake booster line- thats the big one that goes directly between the intake manifold and the brake booster. (pretty obvious one)

    (continued next message)

  12. Is this going to be a community USMB effort paint job? Maybe I should put each panel on the car "up for grabs" and each member can donate paint, vinyl, glue, sticky tape, glitter or whatever they wish to stick onto the car.... ok, maybe not at this time.... however, Tex- that vinyl idea sounds pretty cool....
  13. Yes, It is quite plain right now.... Let me recover my bank account from this one, and soon it will become, possibly, "Waterwagon III" or something of the sorts but as for WCSS11, Maybe some stickers or odd hot-pink colored accessories will be in order
  14. Man.. I really need to build up another offroader I miss doing this stuff!
  15. Hey Troy!! when did you get a new camera?? and how do you plan to survive on cup-o-noodles all week?
  16. Wooohooo! Hey Corky!!! Welcome back! wow... seems like this whole thread is full of "the original" USMB crowd
  17. if you have a mac with system 10.5.6, then use the widget "translate" and just type it in... works for me so far (aka google is your friend)
  18. oh hey!! you still putting around the Alki area in the hornet2? :) I should come down there some day with the old wagon and have some pizza or a burger with ya... see ya around!

  19. Hmm... 20. Come to Carter Subaru in Shoreline (just north of seattle) they have a MINT white 1970 Van, just parked in the shop... the owners have decided that they dont want it on the show room anymore so it is for sale now.. they have not listed it anywhere as far as I know, but if you come up here I bet you can get it for a decent price! trust me, this one is nice!
