  1. DL = Dont Like you guys would stop driving subarus if i told you what XT stood for
  2. ball pien hammer 3/8 socket set 1/4 socket set 1/2 socket set flat head, phillips head drivers a nice piece of pipe to use as a breaker mag light pliers test light box/open end wrenches 8mm - 18mm your looking at about $100 worth of tools at home depot...
  3. EJ22Ts had 165hp stock and made around 180lbs of torque... ej22s made 135hp i believe corky is right about the EJ20G - 22b corrollation, the engine is more of a bored and stroked 2.0 than an EJ22T.
  4. buy a legacy you can get an early half decent legacy on the east for about what you are willing to pay. they are more reliable work horses, well thought out and wont leave you with out floor boards as quick as the early rust prone bombs of the loyale and EA81 family. i too vote against buying a turbo (especially EA81 and 82 series cars) unless you want to become a slave to it and dump hard earned $$$ and thought into something that will constantly require attention...the only good turbo'ed engines were the legacy EJ22Ts and you wont find much in the way of those for the prices youre willing to pay. you shouldnt have much of a problem finding a relatively clean, solid running 2.2L - they seem to be all over on the east.
  5. Tex... have it done and report your findings? i plan on dyno-ing too but the XT is in pieces right now at work, will be done in the near future though
  6. tony i replaced the water pump about 6K ago...the last one seized and left me stranded - swapped for an OEM unit. thermostat i dont think i ever replaced, may want to start there?
  7. always a yes to pabst bottles...bring some and ill reimburse? there was only time we found them here in philly...the guy at the counter didnt even know he had it and charged us $10. if a good enough group gets together ill probably be up for this next week too.
  8. my cell is 215-813-2283 im not sure where ill be starting out yet, probably at EZ but ill make a def. decision later
  9. if it runs it either jumped a tooth or the short side went because somebody replaced only one belt before. well...if it runs on 2 cyls, i guess this qualifies for "cant be driven long distances" ive never heard of a loyale bending valves before...
  10. 150 flywheel HP is possible with out doing pistons, shaving heads and grinding cams...but the key to more power is what you listed above. ill estimate my XTs HP being in the neighborhood of 180 (flywheel) HP as it sits now with an overbore of .050 and headwork done with the addition of a bigger turbo at 13PSI. cams leave alot to be desired, and so does the turbo and exhaust. WJM on this board had cams done that were supposed to harness a 20HP increase but i havent heard anything else about it...i have a stock WRX exhaust system which may have increased the volume of air leaving the engine but im also still retaining all the cats in that system - for now...the car needs at least a downpipe to be somewhat serious though. the stock turbo runs out of breath after 14PSI and i really havent seen any swaps done other than the one on my car. there is a legacy unit is on mine which seems to hold its own at 15PSI and moves plenty more air than the original. a 16G from a mitsubishi maybe a better alternative because the manic levels of air it blows and how effecient it is. it also very much resembles the legacy unit from what ive seen. another thing that will need attention is the ignition system...an MSD box would perfect for this but from what ive seen and heard its a pain to get these cars to run right with them. im using an MSD coil now and this should be considered before anything else when talking in terms of performance in my opinion...every little increase in spark on our cars will help.
  11. tony... ive always had to crack the throttle to get that car to start from day one. back in the early subaru turbo days there was a TSB out about this if im not mistaken...i have to do the same on my XT. a new fuel pressure regulator may/may not fix this - who knows. re: the jumpy tach - this wasnt a disty issue. i think it was just some little annoying voltage thing...youll notice when it starts jumping around a bit, if you were to turn on the headlights or some other big electrical thing on the car it'll either calm down or stop completely...another external ground will probably prevent this from happening again.
  12. i think i remember that car from the yahoo XT6 club a few years ago... i think 5 grand is alot of money...even with that kind of milage.
  13. party on tony, nice to meet you and jules good luck with the ride, enjoy it...
  14. i think thats a big stretch... there was "rumored" to be a guy who ran an XT6 info page a few years ago who squeezed 400hp out of his car, however there is no information available on him or the car itself. i honestly dont see this trans capable of with standing that kind of power. im touching in on 180+hp with my XT and 3rd gear feels a little "stubborn" sometimes...i dont think they would have over built the trans for an XT6 by that big of a margin.
  15. NGK the part number in your owners manual is the best out there for our cars, dont believe the platinum hype.
  16. 2350 would be crazy in this car, it would scream. unfortunatley, i need to keep this car as a daily so some of the stuff like flooring and the complete firewall have to stay. an idea would be to eliminate the rear seats using the DL shelf, or whatever the hell that thing is. anyone know where one is on the east??
  17. 3/18/04 *EDIT* Check the last page of this thread for new updates... - Dennis ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the car in question is a 1987 XT GL10, and its typical of the GL10s to be loaded with every damn option from the factory as you guys all know...im not sure what they weigh exactly, but i think its in the neighborhood of 2700lbs, id like to get that down to 2500. im interested in knowing if you guys have any ideas or suggestions on cutting the fat...obvious would be A/C components but i want to retain that if possible. also, im already toying with the idea of going down from 15 inch wheels to the 14 inch alloys from an XT6 thanx guys
  18. if its not tapping - you have oil pressure. id look into the gauge if i were you.
  19. keep me posted on the date, as long as its a weekend gig i can meet you guys there.
  20. im in if its on a weekend... theres also supposed to be a place called EZ pull around that area that has alot of our subarus in it. someone pick a date. please.
  21. the EJ22 (T or not T) is one of the most reliable engines ever built. they sorted out the tbelt issues they had with loyales and went to a single belt like every other normal car manufacturer, and had very little else go wrong with them. they were actually comfortable and had 130 odd HP, neither were applicable to subarus prior to 1991. early ones supposedly had some minor trans issues/recalls, but if im thinking clearly, the only thing that kept them from running was cam and coolant temp sensors...they also regularly ran upwards of 200K unless the previous owner was an idot or the car met an early demise
