find a legacy or impreza. early to mid 90's cars can be had for what youre looking to spend. the 2.2L is a workhorse and more refined than any EA series engine...

the turbo had play? i had that thing off a year ago and there was no shaft play at all...

skip...awesome info. one request, can you use that micrometer pictured to the left to measure the "wheel" on both turbos? and as steve noted, i have found some info about the VF11 being used on one incarnation (very early 90s) of the EJ20. as far as i can tell it was employed on one of the early legacys that had an automatic trans. shortly thereafter they popped up on the 2.2L for our USDM turbo legacys. there was also a VF10 on USDM cars and a VF12 on JDM cars.

i believe theres a small vacuum line that comes off of the BPV actuator...this one recycles pressure into the manifold. i have my BPV set up how you mentioned, wheres skip when you need him?

hes talking about installing a WRX intercooler on a EA82T, not a WRX. without actually seeing this in person, im pretty sure that hose coming off the BPV (BOV) recycles pressure into the manifold. this is how i have my (volvo) bypass valve hooked up and i have no problems.

yep... EJ22G (or EJ22T) is the turbo 2.2L, the NA is simply referred to as an EJ22 and doesnt like to be turbo'd. the EJ20G (or EJ20T) is the turbo 2.0L, but there was an EJ20 NA that was available in other corners of the world.

i have XT6 sway bars on my ride, just got a WRX rear bar to experiment with. ill report results when the car runs again.

the TD04 turbo may be a little sluggish to spool at first from a dead stop on a stock 1.8L but top end will be a blast. im experiencing the same thing with the VF11 but the cams look like they may remedy this on paper. were all going to be finding out about the same time it looks like...who is going to have the fastest EA82T? any votes?

im pretty sure that the GEN 1 prelude body kits will fit at least in the front if not the whole car. i remember somebody doing this over on the XT6 boards. wagons only, impreza body kits wont work and nobody does anything interesting with ER27s except kevin thomas.

good info tex i guess when looking at all this stuff, it starts to look the same after a while - and good to see youre giving some an additional road to go down. although im still confused as to why the WRX guys all want the turbo legacy catless uppipes if they are a different bolt pattern? 15PSI is definitley possible with an intercooler and stock cams but im curious as to what these cams were all installing will do for timing. sorry garner, i dont know what a VJ5 is. i wonder if its a legacy unit because you noted that the wheel was slightly bigger. try posting a thread on NASIOC...one of those turbo nerds is bound to know what it is.

hey Q... its necessary to mod the crossover? the TD04 shares the same uppipe bolt pattern as VF series turbos, including the stock EA82 unit (VF7?)... i hadn't heard anything like that yet, what has to be tweaked on it? i did alot of research in this department. i didnt give it the attention tex did because im not sure there will be much of a difference between the VF11 i use and the TD04 hes got if you are sane and dont boost over 14-15psi with out getting into copper HG's and other stuff...

VF11 or TD04 is the way to go, you will get tired of the stock turbo, its useless after 13PSI. if you go with either, you will have to swap unless you want custom piping built. go on NASIOC and buy a stock WRX turbo back system from one of the guys in the for sale forums, they can be had cheap. the exhaust will fit but it may hang alittle lower than you would like. this would also be a good time to invest in an intercooler and the Y pipe that goes with it. have you fit or at least eye-balled the engine in the brat? (is that what youre transplanting the stuff into?) the spider manifold is en route as of my lunch break today...

amen. that story goes back years on this message board...ive never seen a stock EA82T with forged pistons. RedRX, how radical are the cams? any HP numbers? i had a head gasket problem in my turbo XT (vortex to you) and wasnt showing any tell tale signs (i.e. water/oil mixture or smoke), just a very tiny track mark on the under side of the head where coolant leaked into the combustion chamber.

do you have one of those black boxes to try that sits next to it? isnt there a way to diagnose this? i think they might have had some OBD type system for the steering. sorry dude, its been a while since i was in XT6 land...

i vote nay... the EA82T isnt technologically advanced and reliable enough for its own forum.
