  1. yep, would be the (timing belt) 1.8L aka EA82T. i doubt it will have an LSD on it unless somebody put it there, but you can find those all over the place if you look hard enough...they arent that rare. pushbutton 4WD is single range. its just a 4WD button that is on top of the gear shift, push it to engage, push it again to disengage.
  2. im not really sure that theres alot of power lost in our crossovers... its a catless unit, but maybe a slightly larger diameter wouldnt be too bad of an idea however ive heard the same thing that rallyruss said.
  3. there are some guys doing this over on NASIOC i did a search for you and came up with this: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=459488&highlight=turbo+EJ18 also, here is what came up when i typed in EJ18 turbo: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=416271&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending good luck man, keep us posted on the project...im interested in your progress.
  4. my fault, i mis-understood when you were getting at...but yeah you are right.
  5. probably because the dyno chart he posted is from a small block chevy, not an EA82T car.
  6. needless to say we need cams to get over this hump i spoke to a guy named john at delta and he was pretty interested in what i (we) are doing with these engines...im not sure we could do 180whp on the stock turbo though. good to see somebody doing real dyno time...im shooting for 140-160whp tops as it sits now, we'll see what happens.
  7. how are you getting 15psi while the front mount is 'out of commission'?
  8. i doubt there would be much of an audience who would want to see an 89 subaru hatchback dressed up.
  9. is this for the EA82T? would probably run like **** at idle, but who cares about idling... how are paecos prices for our cars?
  10. steve, im pretty sure the bottom is a weld and re-grind, its not too crazy but then again anything is an improvement...he says 20HP, probably well worth it for the cost. a friend of mine (the guy i told you about the other day) had cams done at paeco for the same engine and his were pretty radical - but it barely ran at idle.
  11. whoa dude, you totally drive an XT...wild, youre half way telling the truth now. thumbs-up. i didnt see any mounts for the FMIC in the under the hood shot by the way...
  12. dude, none of the mods you are listing are giving you the power you claim to be laying down. end of story. this thread has been nothing but a bunch of bull ****...
  13. will im not disagreeing with you but i am however, disagreeing with cams generating an extra 200WHP on a largely stock engine and management system. honestly burning all 4s doesnt impress me much - i have 205-60-14s and i could lay tracks all day because of the power the VF11 added over the stock unit, and was doing it with the 15s i had before. im aware that the cams are number one in gaining serious power, but an upgraded turbocharger isnt far down the list my man... ill revise what ive been saying all along - these engines will not generate 300HP without a bigger turbo, new fuel system, cams, and aftermarket engine management.
  14. im sorry dude but steve is right... when thinking all of this out, theres obviously way more to deal with on an EA82T than bolt ons and cranking up boost. theres just a ton of things to factor in as mentioned above (i.e. MAF, injectors, turbo, cooling) as well as an EA82T only having 3 main bearings...an example: SOA had an RX rally car in the late 80s and early 90s that was squeezing out about what youre claiming, and they were replacing engines everyother race. our cars were simply not made for this kind of thing, but there are a few of us who are out there trying to push the proverbial envelope to get more out of these engines. where is that dyno sheet really from? looks like a small block chevy or maybe a 302.
  15. as i said before - maybe im out of line but i just dont see where the power is coming from other than the cams. if youre really making that XT scream as loud as you say - more power to you, you obviously came across something that alot of us havent...but i speak for all of us im sure when i ask that you let us in on your secrets, something that fast is too good to hide. you'd be the first EA82T guy to run 12's. the T/A is hot by the way
  16. i understand what you are saying, and you seem like a knowledgeable guy but it doesnt add up. i read your list of mods closely and fail to understand where you are making 283WHP...in my experience with these engines, to gain that kind of power you would need alot more than cams and titanium lifters to make 4Xs the power over a stock car... lightening the car is necessary, XT's are on the heavy side of import cars, but you know as well as i that lightening the car only increase power to weight, not what the engine is putting out. i.e. getting your car down to 2080lbs doesnt mean your engine suddenly gained 200HP worth of balls. feel free to prove me wrong, maybe im being to skeptical, but im one who needs to see things to believe. i always thought cams were the key in our cars, and youre proving me right. im planning on doing mine in the summertime, hopefully this will be the route i need to take with the XT to get it to not be such a dog. im fairly certain im on the brink of 200HP at 15PSI now that the waste gate is working properly and the engine is actually holding compression but im still employing 2 catalytic converters from the stock WRX exhaust system as well as the stock downpipe.
  17. you dont need hood clearance... just do what i do - slam the hood shut. forcefully.
  18. first off...do your power door locks work? if they dont, check the fuse - the air suspension is fused with the door locks circuit for some strange reason. 2nd, air suspension would be nice but, coming from a person who battled this situation twice - its more of an economical decision to swap. parts could be had cheaply and they dont necessarily have to be XT6 parts. shoot me an email if this is the route you want to take - ill give you my XT6 swap formula that ive used. the car will look great and handle just as well.
  19. speaking of which, im going to shoot you an email about your cams...is that cool?
  20. again...not trying to flame but the mods you listed will not give you 283HP to the wheels...just having the stock turbo on the car limits you to about 160HP tops, all its doing after 14PSI is murdering itself...can you post a dyno graph? you listed in you mods list: intake BOV cap coil plugs these didnt do much for your car...the only real mods i see are valve springs, lifters, FMIC, cams and exhaust - and the first 2 of which probably didnt do anything...it doesnt add up to me. can anyone else analyze this? WJM: i know how important cams are in increasing performance in our cars, they hold the key in our engines BUT they will not give you an extra 200 wheel HP in an EA82T.
  21. dude... i have to call B.S. here, i need to see some proof too. i dont understand how youre getting 283 at the wheels with just a port and polish and cams on the stock turbo. the titanium lifters and new valve springs added maybe 10HP by themselves. my heads were ported and im probably putting tops 160HP to the ground after a complete rebuild without cams. we exchanged emails before about the car and i never actually heard what else was done to the car, can you elaborate on the mods again? im not trying to flame you or high jack this post, im just curious how you basically quadroupled what the car is putting to the ground by just by what was listed above. please reply, obviously alot of inquiring minds want to know...in my opinion, the only way youll get that kind of power out of an XT is with an engine swap, if im out of line - prove me wrong.
  22. that hose would need to be after the IC if i understand you right...maybe skip can back me up here. no opinion on the header wrap on the IC, never tried it personally
  23. 87 Turbo XT (hybrid of other subarus also) - 350 miles on engine, 150K on body, anyones guess on trans 95 Impreza L - 127K
  24. i think meeky meant power to weight... the early RXs weighed in at 2400lbs if i remember right, and with 110hp...it wasnt a bad combo. if only i could the XT down that far
