I am changing an auto tranny in my 2001 forester. I have noticed a difference from the one i installing from a 2004 forester. There is, what appears to be an oil filter on the front of the transmission at the bottom left. Also it appears to be on the front axles, that they are not using pins on the shafts, is this right? Any help would be a great appreciation.

Finally, they are both working..... I did have to replace the fuse(#9), but it was still dim, i changed the relay, no help, come to find out the bulb itself had a short in it, where i would work on the other side fine, until you shook it lightly and it would dim again, i put a new bulb in it and it works great, thanks to all who helped.

Just noticed the right side light is very dim compared to the left. I took the light out of the headlight and put it in the left side and it is very bright. I also notice the left side dims, but the right side stays the dim light at all times. I have a grounding issue or a short. Does anyone have any suggestions, a headlight wiring diagram would be helpful, or any help. Thanks

A/c help

I took it to a local mechanic that is knowledgable in the mechanics of the a/c system. The way he explained to me was that the system would recharge without a problem, no leaks, the presure got so high it would slow down the clutch and then blow it's top,(the presure valve on the side of the condensor would engage) i changed the ac compressor thinking that was the problem. I guess he probably know what he is talking about. What i could really use to you have the step by step directions on how to get to the expansion valve, that would truly help. My email address is subarucity@aol.com -

Is there any way to tell if that is the problem before i tear into the dash? -

took it to a local repair shop today, they tried to vac and recharge and it did the same thing. the said it appears to him that the expansion valve is either stoped or not working. has anyone had this problem before? i know it is behind the dash, how hard it is to get to? help!!in fl it is really "no cool " to have no a/c. -
Thanks for the reply. This forester was hit in the right side, it hit the actuator and moved it out of it holder. I thoguht it would be best to do the exchange while i had it apart. I had a 2004 that i am using parts from. I am a decent mechanic, but what are you refering to as the tone ring? All of my fluids are normal, no leaking. I am here in fl, with no rust or salt, so the sensors shoud be ok. But who knows. Any help i would appreciate. By the way, i can pull a ob check for the engine, how can i check for the abs light, i know there is another plug under the dash beside the obs connection. What is this for, anyone know> thanks again
