ea81 transmission help needed-LEAKING! FIXED
bratsrus1 replied to richieroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey Sidekickin This is Jerry, the problem you are having on the catalytic converter and the heat on the CV boot. I have just the thing for it. You will have to drop the Y pipe and remove the heat sheild. Drill out the welded nuts on the sheild or knock them off. Get another sheild from another Y pipe use half of it when you bolt it back on the Y pipe. 2 parts on top and 1 on the bottom. Space the top 2 sheilds out with nuts the will go thruogh new bolts. This will leave an air gap between the 2 parts of the top sheilds. Thanks Jerry -

excessive vibration after tranny swap
bratsrus1 replied to northguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hi Matt This is Jerry, did you line up the dots on the flywheel and the pressure plate? If you didn't do that it will vibrate and the whine that you hear in all gears tells me that the input shaft bearing is bad. To replace that bearing you have to split the tranny. Getting back to first question the flywheel has a dot on the ring gear teeth and the pressure plate has a small circle on it have to be line up. Thanks Jerry -

bratsrus1 replied to AKIRA's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Hey bud This is Jerry, i emailed you 2 days ago about the kit for the 5 speed. If you want your brat to look stock then this is for you. But if you want to make up something your self then do it. Myself i like the stock look it really works for me and other people that's gotten one of these kits. This kit alows you to unbolt your 4 speed and bolt in the 5 speed its that simlpe. I don't push this on anybody you make up your own mind. Thanks Jerry -

Hey Matt This is Jerry, i would like to know how you like the 5 speed in your brat? People want to know also was the 5 speed kit EZ to install? Let me know Thanks Jerry -
Hey WJM This is Jerry, you need to find a tranny like i have setting in my yard. I have 2 from a 88 RX 5 speed dual range with center diff lock. With that type of tranny lock up the front and no more 1 wheel spin. Thanks Jerry

Hi Mike This is Jerry, i live in Selah and drive to Sunnyside every day to work. Your brat is not hard to find parts for just got to know where to look for them. The engine needs to be resealed to stop the leaks. As for the clutch and tranny it would be better to install a 5 speed tranny when replacing the clutch. You will be much happier with the 5 speed. Also i make a 5 speed kit for your brat and it keeps the brat stock looking. Have any questions call me at 509-952-2855 Thanks Jerry

Hi Scott This is Jerry,i have that set up ready to go in my next brat. There is a few things you need to do, #1 brat lower A arm needs to be reamed out to fit the XT ball joint, #2 need to drill 2 holes at top of strut tower for the top of strut the third hole is already there,#3 the park brake arm on the caliper needs to be bent to clear something in that area, #4 the big one the axles are to long and you need to use the turbo tranny because of the 25 splines or change the inner joints to 23 splines. If you get those parts to fit then you got it installed. Thanks Jerry

Help With Charging Problem? (!!!!SOLVED!!!!)
bratsrus1 replied to garner's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey Garner This is Jerry, if you are talking about your 79 brat then there is a fuse well 2 or 3 of them under the glove box. One of them has to do with your charging system. I had a 78 brat that drove me nuts until i found that fuse, it was shot a 5 amp fuse. I don't know why subaru put it there but it's there. Hopes this helps you. Thanks Jerry -
Hi Mary This is Jerry, that could be but there is a valve in the middle of the vacuum line that gose to the brake boster. if that is go bad then the engine will do what your brat is doing. Pull that vale off then you should be able to blow through it one way only. If you can blow through bolth ways then it is shot. Hopes this helps you. Thanks Jerry
-
Hey 88 This is Jerry, yes you can do that with an adapter plate but why. The EA82 5 speed can handle more HP that the 4 speed and they bolth have the same bolt pattern on the bellhousing. A few times really getting on that 4 speed with the EJ22 you will brake that 4 speed. I am not saying you can't brake the 5 speed anything can be broken, but you will be much happer with the 5 speed. Thanks Jerry

Hey Simmo This is Jerry, my son had one of those cars. Same problem with it, to answer problem #1 no oil on the brushes you have a leak. Problem #2 it's inside of the tranny with the pulley set up, it's ready to take a dump. I swap it out with the manual 5 speed not that hard to do. Good luck with that tranny only has problems once they start. Thanks Jerry

Brat's having another hissy fit! *Info added*
bratsrus1 replied to Seahag1978's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hi 1987 This is Jerry, inside of your brat under the glove box there is 2 or 3 fuses check and see if one of them isn't burnt out. I know one of them has to do with the charging system. I found out the hard way, if that not it then hook up your hot wire to the electric choke wire. That will let you know if the wiring has a brake in it. Hopes this helps you. Thanks Jerry -

bratsrus1 replied to Seahag1978's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey 1987 This is Jerry, it's cold out there now sounds like your gas line has water in it or now it would be ice. Get a can of gas antifreeze and dump it in your tank. Your fuel filter will have water in it, may not look like it but it will have water in it replace it. The same thing happen to me last year in my 78 brat that i gave to Pat. Happy motoring Thanks Jerry -
Hi Everybody This is Jerry, today i had to get a new plate for my hatch. It has 041TCK, when i went to install it then it hit me TCK short for truck. Well that's ok with my hatch but my hatchbrat i wanted a plate like it to say 080TCK. I got it and when you think about it, my hatchbrat is a 1980 and now a mini truck. It fits my hatchbrat real good. A happy camper Thanks Jerry
