  1. Please. Please. Advise. ASAP. 96 Imprezza SOHC EJ22. New timing belt; new spark plugs. #2 spark plug has fired (175 psi). 1, 3 & 4 spark plugs haven't. (Zero psi) Why?? OBD shows PO325 knock sensor error code Never mind my two front teeth -- all I want for Christmas is to drive my car again. Please. Please. Advise. ASAP.
  2. Here is video of the problem. I am hoping one of you can steer me in the right direction. My mechanic is less then helpful so far. And now is out of state. I have checked the battery with a volt meter, it reads 12.4 . When the car is on it goes up to 13.8, when i turn ac and lights on it fluctuates between 13.6 and 13.8. I have replaced the plugs and wires so far. But not sure where to head next. Ill get a video of it in the day time. But hopefully you can hear the issue. There is a sliht whine and the weirs pulsing sound. The idle doesnt go up or down, like most peoples issues on the web that ive found. It mainly does it when starting until it warms up , but it does it slightly when turning on the blinker i notice the check engine light dim in rhythm . Help? Thanks to the advice i found it was a faulty alternator, and i found how to fix it myself
  3. Hi, First time posting but I'm hoping you guys can help. I've got a 96 Impreza Outback with the EJ22 and 90,000 miles (an old grandma car). The car will seemingly start and run fine for a while but will start to sputter, lose power and eventually stall. I have to then have the car sit for about 5-10 minutes before I'm able to get it running again. The difficult thing about this is that it is fairly random. Yesterday I drove 10 miles without issue. Got in the car again and made it about 300 yards before it stalled on me (fortunately I was able to make it to a parking lot). After about 5 minutes I started it back up and it was fine the rest of the day, another 40 miles. I live in the city so it doesn't see much highway mileage. Given the randomness I don't like the idea of driving down a highway with no shoulder. The dash lights do not light during the sputtering. Things I've replaced: -fuel filter -fuel pump -valve cover gasket (this definitely seemed to be leaking as one of the covers had oil all over it) -plugs (wires and plugs also were replaced about a year ago) I've already tried taking it to a mechanic but of course it was running fine for him and not exhibiting any symptoms. I next tried a dealership but they said it'd be about $500 just to diagnose/look into it because it's so hard to reproduce. I'm kind of running out of options. I really don't know how to troubleshoot cars too well. Any ideas on where to look next? How can I determine if this is an electrical/ignition issue vs fuel system, etc? Thanks!
  4. So I have a 1996 Impreza L with the ej22. I need a new filler neck, so I called the local dealership, and they said that there are 2 different filler necks for that year. One with a valve and one without. The guy said mine would be about $190, meaning it has the valve, but he didn't tell me the actual parts number. Could someone point me in the right direction to finding a cheaper one? And maybe give me the right part number so I can make sure I'm buying the right part. Thank you in advance.
  5. i have purchased a used matching transmission for my 96 legacy because after driving it around with torque bind something in the transmission gave out. (i suspect it is the front diff, between the engine block and the transmission its self) My question is, is how can i check the resistance of the solenoid coil while i still have this transmission outside of the car. id like to know if it is faulty seeing as it is a used transmission, before i install it completely in the car. i am hoping someone knows what pins on the drivers side electrical connection plug is for the solenoid, and what the resistance should be. i really do not want to cut any of the protective outer jacket to trace out the wires on the connector. if i need to post pictures so people know what exactly i am talking about i can. B raynor
  6. Suspension on my '95 Legacy is pretty shot (well at the least the rear for sure) I keep hearing that Outback struts will bolt right up and lift the car about 1.5 to 2 inches. I think this is a great idea. But I feel like there is more to it? Do I need outback springs? spacers? anything like that. If anyone can give me any leads/video's/info on this swap. That'd be Great. thanks- travis
  7. I drive a 92 Loyale wagon (standard, 4wd) and my brother has a 96 legacy wagon that he is planning on having towed off. Are there any parts that are worth taking for my Loyale? I know a lot of stuff isn't compatible but is there anything worth pulling? Thanks.
