There are two fans on my 84 DL wagon. How do you tell which is the A/C and which is the cooling fan? Also, my cooling fan switch doesn’t work. Is there a big difference between the $20 to the $45 on eBay? Thanks

Hey guys. My 1985 GL wagon has been running pretty hot just after taking it on a 9 hour drive from Tahoe to southern CA. At first I was thinking that the thermostat wasn't opening up, and then noticed that the cooling fan wasn't turning on no matter how hot the engine was. Just driving around town it runs just below the red on the temperature gauge. Is the cooling fan not working alone enough to make it run that hot? And what are some ways to trouble shoot the fan not working? Last project completed on it was a new water pump, which was done by a professional. And it did fine on the 9 hour drive. Thanks Dewey

I downloaded the manual and have searched the forums. I am still confused? Any tips? when I bought the car, they told me to pop the hood and remove the relay to turn the fan off and on? I messed with swapping some relays and thought I fixed it, but found my battery drained and a very hot relay? WTF? something grounding out? also need some advice on how to get the vents working again, seems to be no vacuum? Your wisdom and experience is requested and appreciated.

I have a 98 Subaru legacy Outback. A few weeks ago my check engine light came on. I had the codes run, and it came back PO-483 cooling fan malfunction. I read that if you car runs hot for 2 cycles that it will through this code. I checked my cooling system... water full, thermostat good, fuses good, nothing blocking the radiator that would make it get hot, fans are working turning on and off, and I have never noticed my car temp gauge going above the half way point. I even replaced a wire on the fan that looked a little iffy unplugged the battery for 15 minutes, and still had the check engine light. Should I just assume the fan is going out soon and buy a new fan? Do I replace booth or just the one that cools the radiator? Anyone have any other suggestions or things to check before I buy a new fan? And yes, of course I was literaly on my way to get my tags when the check engine light came on. I only have a week to figure this out, and I am at a loss...
