  1. I am looking for some engine builder advice. I have a EJ205 that came out of a 05 WRX with 144k miles. The engine was still running strongand still making boost but was very dirty on the outside and i did not know the history so I decided to pull the engine and break it down. The engine came apart pretty easy, no broken or rusty bolts. No visual signs of damage. At this point I will measure everything as specified in the FSM and figure out what machine work will need to be done. I want to ask though about bearing clearances. I have not done a turbo engine before. All my experience is just stock N/A power and building back to stock specs. I would like to take this engine to 300 WHP. I think that is possible with the stock internals but I that is just my theory and not backed by any experience. From my research, the rods are the weak link but if i do not plan to exceed 300 WHP then... Also. I know that the secret to building is being precise with clearances. I can just follow the manual but if i plan on pushing more than stock power, do i need to increase the main and rod bearing clearances a bit (i.e the +.001 bearings) I also know that the secret to keeping engine (that is correctly built) in one piece is to tune it correctly as well. I have the RomRaider software and ECUFlash equipment and have verified that i can read and write to my ECU. Of course that is way down the line right now. Anyways, I'd love to have someone with knowlage help me through this build!
