  1. Hello everyone. Just got done moving my High Compression EJ251/EJ25D hybrid from a '96 Legacy Wagon into a '98 Outback. Along with it I put in a JDM import 5mt from an '05 Legacy GT Turbo wagon. 4.11 end range. This motor and this transmission makes a perfect ride. All except for the fact that the exhaust manifold is in contact with one of the steering rack hydraulic lines. Rattles like a woodpecker jack-hammering the side of your house at 0500. I'm assuming the heat from the manifold will not be good in the long run. This was not a problem in the '96. What gives? Are there taller/shorter exhaust manifolds? Are there any super thick exhaust manifold gaskets that I should be aware of?
  2. Does anyone know the overall width of an EA82 power steering rack WITHOUT tie rod ends installed?
  3. Made a YouTube Video regarding a steering rack replacement. Can use this guide for nearly any Subaru, so be sure to save it for future reference! Don't forget to bleed it when you're done!
  4. Hey all ! My old reliable 84 GL wagon w/manual steering that I JUST got going started steering hard , so I jacked up the front end and when turning the wheel lock to lock, I hear Crunch Crunch Crunch.................................. Can I grease it? or replace it with newer? what will fit? If I can replace it, Can I use a power rack or does it need to be a manual rack? I really do not want to make it power steering unless I have to... Thanks for any input
  5. Hey gang, I've been going through www.opposedforces.com for things I should pull off my parts Forester for my Impreza and I wanted to know about the steering rack. I see on OF.com that it isn't a direct replacement part between the two but I can't help but think that it would have to be close enough to use anyway because so much of the suspension, crossmembers, etc are direct swap-over parts. Has anyone done a rack swap between the two before? I have a hunch that there is some minute difference between them in ratio (for different tire size maybe?) or something that makes them not 100% identical parts but that they would still swap in and work in place of each other. Any ideas? I'm trying to farm out as many spares from this rig as I can before having it hauled for crushing. So far I've put all four struts and springs on my impreza as well as a bunch of stereo mounting dash parts and the nicer front bucket seats. I've also pulled all the axles and the front control arms to have 'in stock'. I think I'm getting pretty good mileage out of a $250 parts car.
