hello! so, to make a long story short: my dad’s 2000 Subaru Legacy has been sitting for eight years. We’re finally getting it repaired (or hoping to), or at least checked out, but the problem is because it’s in parking, we can’t move it, unless it’s with a special tow truck, and that’s just too expensive, and the space for such truck isn’t there. The regular tow truck guy basically said I need to put it in neutral first, but since the battery is dead and buying a new battery and starting it again in its condition isn’t really the best idea, we don’t know what to do. I’ve been told about the shift lock trick, but haven’t been able to find any sort of shift lock like the one in the pic. Any ideas on how to put it in neutral? Is the shift lock somewhere else? The guy said he could start it without a battery with some type of equipment, but I honestly don’t want anyone to mess with it before taking it to the official Subaru dealership. Thanks and forgive my ignorance!

Hello all, recently my auto transmission took a turn for the worst in my 01 legacy but I had a manual from a 98 2.5rs sitting from a old build and it bolted right. But the speed sensor doesn’t. The 01 has an electronic but the transmission was the ol cable driven. Any ideas how to convert the cable to the mechanical without breaking the bank? I’ve looked at cable converters but they’re all for a mechanical cluster. I have a mechanical gauge but no sensor for manual. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you Koda

so what i bought . just normal city outback 3.0 VDC model and what it became to, first 5cm/2' lift spacers and larger tires 225/65R17 those had problems to fit there and live so i cut some plastic off there and hamered some stuff with hammer but in end all worked on those tires, and later i went for 7cm/2.8' lift just on spacers nothing else done and it works pretty cool , on high speeds on highway or just cornering tight in city this lift just works. front sway bar still in place , on this gen front sway bar is working with lift , though rear sway bar went off because it cant fit with lift . numbers in cm with 7cm lift front and rear proper recovery points and hili ft jack lift points and roof rack modified from 2001 so now that hi lift jack can be on full use and alike allways nothing is bought everything made by myself and because car was for trips so made something for myself too and to have small fire with us allways . very cmpact but made from pretty strong steel not thin and we sleeping in car too in trips with some foam matress it feels like sleep at home rly for 2 its just great. its taken from previous 2001outback that rusted away so i needed new car.

Hello fellow Subaru enthusiasts! I have been experiencing automatic transmission problems for many years and the time has finally come that I can avoid fixing it any longer. Since I acquired the car in 2011 there has been a intermittent problem with the duty-C selenoid, the transmission has been binding up around corners for a long time, but the car was given to me for free so I never took the time to replace the duty-C. I do not drive the car very far so I have gotten away with this for some time now. When I do drive the car over 15 miles, the transmission heats up and starts to whine under load. After about 30 minutes of driving the scratching/grinding noise between gears is awful, its so loud I feel bad driving it. I have done 3 transmission flushes over the last 6 years, the first flush was because my transmission cooler line broke while driving 60 mph uphill and dumped all my fluid. While refilling the transmission fluid I accidentally over filled it, and drove it like that for at least 2 years. This summer I start a new job that is about 110 miles away and I know my car won't make it, not even once. I need to replace the transmission, one with less miles that does not have quite the abuse on it. I plan to remove a transmission from a matching year legacy when one appears in the junkyard and swap that. Once I find a replacement transmission I plan to bring it to a shop and have them test it before I go through the trouble of swapping it out, but I am wondering if anyone has done a project like this before? If so, were there any unexpected issues that came up? What gaskets should I purchase before so I can change them all before I install it? Is there an item number for a kit with all the gaskets? Even better, does anyone have a link to a similar situation that someone has already posted? Thanks for the help everyone! 1993 Legacy L, 4-EAT 287,452 miles -Mike

Hello, I'm new so here it is. I have a 2013 Subaru Legacy 2.5 limited. 237,000 miles. Problem started when I filled up. Car ran rough and I barley got home aprrox. 2 miles. Bad gas, water in it and I wasn't the only one. So drained like 90 % of gas, put in fresh and a bottle of HEET. Car starts sometimes but the shuts off right away. It will start with starter fluid and sounds great. Fuel at fuel rail, pumps primes, good pressure in lines but I can't check actual pressure no shrader valve. No check engine light and no error codes on dash? Even though this is the second new pump I put in, car still won't run. Checked purge valve it is closed. Cleaned MAF Cleaned throttle body, didn't remove it. Can the Crank Sensor be the cause? Maybe a vacuum line is off ? Need some help....I tried an older scanner but I didn't get anywhere with that, it was like from the 90's

Hello, car was running fine yesterday but today got a crank with no start. Went through the typical. Spark, fuel And fuses And it has all. The intake isn’t sucking a lot of air. It does have some suction but not a crap ton. Any ideas on how to get it running again?

Greetings, from the broke highschooler again, and now that I have the information from my other post I have come to the conclusion that I am going to need another vehicle to do what I want to do. Like I addressed in my post, I am not trying to break the bank but still have a vehicle that is reliable for these idaho roads/winters and as a daily driver. If you could give me suggestions and a price to ball park to that would be awesome!

Greetings, I am a broke highschool student who is looking to mod my 1990 Legacy LS sedan, it is not my own right now it's still my parents but i do plan on buying it from them when I start working later this month. I am aware of the options I can have like boosting it or building the whole thing, but I'm not trying to blow it up because I need it for school and for it to be reliable. Any brands for stuff like exhaust's, intakes, cometics, and other smaller stuff. I am willing to listen to most ideas and eventually I will take pic of it and upload them but I have to make the effort. But anyways, any brands to look forward too for mods and certain mods are accept.

I recently purchased a 2018 Subaru legacy 2.5i limited and I absolutely love it. the more I drive it the more I wish I could hear the exhaust of the car. I have been looking at ordering a new exhaust for it. my question is: Is there any performance enhancements that I could do by swapping out some of the factory exhaust system for a bigger or better system? im not looking to take it on the track or anything just looking to make it sound meaner and if I can get some extra performance out of it id spend the extra money. thanks, Wisconsin Kyle

I have recently purchased a 1996 Subaru Outback with a 2.2 liter EJ 22 engine that I know very little about. so far I have replaced the clutch and the axles and just in time to blow a head gasket . So in lue of just getting another car i have decided to turn this car into an ultimate adventure wagon, ntm b4 I blew the head gasket it had quite a few problems with lack of power and failing gages . at this point i am ready to put a new engine in the gal and do a complete overhaul . being that i am not a mechanic and i have a limitted budget, I have a lot of questions. first of these is; what can i do to achieve 250 hpaw with a 2.2 l engine ?

Hi I’m new to the forum, I lifted my 98 Impreza L wagon on 05 forester struts and am looking to get bigger AT tires, I understand with 215/55-65/15’s I will need some fender mods, but I currently have 185s on 15 inch steelies and it doesn’t look like I have much room between the tire and front shock, so before I order anything too big I wanted to see if anyone has come across this problem any info and close up wheel well pictures would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hello there fans of the great Subaru ,I have a justy j10, I bought a year I go It wasn't in good condition but I like it ever since I been fixing it up .so far it started from a little fix to a how to become a mechanic . To the point the idle run pure not all cold, runs ok with choke full open and then to high rev,s .I took if off once cleaned up but not much improved, so I AM thinking it's time to go with an other carb in fact a 38/19830,202 38 dgas Weber like carb my question is will it run ? Will be ok? And not use fuel like crazy?

Basically.... About 3 weeks ago car was intermittent no start. Cranking was rough/rumbly and gas pedal hadda be teased in order for it to sometimes start. Attached a missing ground strap and car was reliable for a few weeks. Still had a bit of a rough/rumbly start but at least started and drove. It ran fine, but I pulled the motor for HG job and no spark after re-install. Tested coil pack resistance, tested bad. Swapped coil pack....didn't help. Power to coil pack, no signal to coil pack. Crank sensor & cam sensors pass resistance tests. Checked wiring to ECU, passed. Reinstalled ECU, engine started and ran for 15 seconds including idling and revs but no issue was actually solved... But we reinstalled accessories. Again, no spark, no signal to coil. Fuses tested/examined, so not a fuse. It's a 2001 Subary Legacy Outback 2.5/EJ25. Any advice on what might be going on or how to test the ECU would be great help.

Hello, I am looking at a Subaru where it is a loud ticking noise from the engine. Look at the video linked: It apparently started when the person startet up the car and the car suddenly revs higher and higher by itself. They managed to stop it without any problem. Sounded like a turbo problem, but after a look on it it seems like that is not the case. Don't see why it would tick like that either. Diagnosed the fuel flow into the cylinder and that seems fine... Can the chain make this noise?, even though I don't think that'sit. Its a Subaru Impreza 150hk 2010 model. I am completely new to Subaru. -Thanks for the help
