  1. The buttons directing air flow to the windshield, front and lower vents did not function. I pulled the unit several times to clean connections, and try to clean the inside of the unit. Immediately after cleaning and reinstalling the unit the buttons work fine. Soon thereafter the buttons stopped working again. During the last reinstall I noted that if I pulled up on the connector for the buttons (top center wire connector) the unit functioned fine. Evidently the wires pulling down on the connectors impacts button contact inside the unit. My solution- wood shims! The two shims are cut so they provide support to the connector, and rest on top of the frame for the cable controlling air temp. See pics below. The unit now almost operates flawlessly, the exception being the recirculate button does not light up.
  2. So the other day I was installing a new car stereo in the car as I wanted to change all the stock speakers as well as add some bluetooth functionality to the car. After installing all of the door speakers, I installed some tweeters into the stock location (in the dash). I had to shove them up into the location as did not want to remove the whole dash. Now heres the issue... After installing everything correctly, my climate control will not work at all! The only thing that works is adjusting the blower! I cant turn on the A/C,change where it comes out, or turn on the defrost! When I Push the button none of the lights come on only the illumination lights come on at night! this all started happening after I installed the tweeters as I had the stereo in for awhile before this happened. So I'm wondering if I bumped/broke a cable or something. I also should mention that my tire pressure light is on even though all my tires are filled correctly and my cruise control turns on but I am unable to set it! Any help would be nice!
  3. Hi, Seeking help with the heater / climate control system in my '98 Legacy. The dial to adjust the temperature just turns indefinitely and the temperature doesn't move. Obvious fix is to source and purchase a replacement unit but I thought I'd ask here in case there is an easy fix. Thanks
  4. O.K. , I've read all the posts I can find on here( feel free to direct me to one I've missed), and none seem to cover my issue...I have a 1985 Gl-10 Wagon 4wd dual range 5 speed w/a1.8 EA82 from an 89 dl,carb'd. My problem is with the heater control head, there is apparently a short internally. I checked the relay, it is fine.I can hold the relay in my left hand and tap on the control unit with a screwdriver and feel the relay click and sometimes turn on..It works fine when the weather is warm, but when I need it most, like below 32°f it will not work.I may have to use a jumper in place of the relay, but would rather fix the problem so it works correctly..............Anyone have an idea or parts? Thanks...
  5. Howdy folks. Glad to see USMB back up and running. Seriously. I write today regarding a lack of climate control. '87 GL wagon. No venting. No heating. This and that. I just replaced the blower motor resistor hoping that would do the trick. It didn't. Though that's okay, the old one was shot. Corroded and bent. Had to happen anyway. Now, where should I go from here? Replace the blower motor? Test it? It looks as nasty as the resistor did. What can I test to point me in the right direction? Much thanks in advance.
