I have a '99 Legacy Outback wagon and a 2001 four-door Impreza, both with blown head gaskets. The Impreza is smashed on the passenger side, really not worth fixing, the Legacy has no title, really not worth fixing. I also have a 2002 Outback wagon and a pair of '96 Legacy wagons, one an Outback and one not. The two junkers are going to get stripped and go to the junkyard. I'll keep what I can use, and sell what I cannot. That leads to my questions: Will the front clip from the '99 bolt onto either of the '96s? I don't care about changing the appearance, but will it bolt on? Same questions about the doors, and other body parts. Similarly, will any of the Impreza body parts bolt onto the 2002? Again, if they physically fit, I don't care about appearance. The compatibility of the mechanical stuff I can figure out, pretty much, from the Rock Auto catalog and from help you all have given me earlier. Thanks!

I have a 1987 GL 4-door wagon with push button 4WD. It has a 3-speed auto trans, A/C, Carb, 1.8L, all power options. When searching for transmissions at car-part dot com, I see FWD or AWD. Under descriptions provided by the wrecking yard, I see 2WD, 4WD, FWD, and AWD. I know that 1987 had both 4WD and AWD, carburetor and fuel injection. 1) Was there such a thing as a FWD (no 4WD button) during 1985 - 87? 2) Which transmission do I need? 3) Does anyone have a good used one with torque converter for sale that will ship, preferably in the pacific northwest? Thanks

Hello! I am considering buying a 1992 2WD Loyale - automatic (134k) w/blown head gasket as a parts car, as its very cheap. Quite a bit cheaper than 4wd parts cars I've found. I own a 1991 4WD Loyale - Manual (398k). I have read about differences in struts, but I don't see other discussions about differences between 2wd and 4wd models. One thing I would like to swap is the entire cat/exhaust, as mine is completely rusted and shot. Input on compatibility of the exhaust, and any other parts, is appreciated. Thanks

Hello, My family and I have recently moved to a Saskatchewan, Canada from Manitoba, Canada for work. To register our 2001 Legacy Wagon (241,000km) here it needed a safety, I took it in today and it failed for a rusted out bumper, leak between the catalytic converters and rusted through on a spot in the wheel well. Not to mention a cracked power steering belt and leak in the system apparently. The place has a good reputation and doesn't do body work themselves so I don't think they're taking me for a ride. I'm going to talk to a couple body shops tomorrow and see how much the body work would costs as that's outside of my skill set. I don't know if I'm looking at $500 or $5,000. The power steering stuff I could probably do myself but that seems to be the least of the issues. If the cost is high enough I'll be looking for a new Subaru, a sad thing as this is the first car I've ever owed! Should I be able to convince my wife to let me park it in the back yard for parts, would anyone be able to tell me what the newest year Legacy is that has a really high compatibility parts wise with a 2001 Legacy Wagaon? Or, for that matter, other Subarus...not sure if the Forester or something uses a lot of the same parts. Thank you!

does anyone know what other year motor can drop into a 2006 Forrester x. my head gaskets are going bad at 242000 miles and I am looking for another motor from a wreck to rebuild and just be able to drop into the 06 when complete. I just need to know what other years have compatibility with the least headaches

I broke the glass in the back window of my wagon. The glass costs way more than the entire hatch and I don't have the tools or experience to switch the glass. So I am curious what years hatch is compatible with mine. The local junk yard has 20 or so 1995-1997 in various L, LS, LSI outback models. If I am lucky I will even find it in silver. They want $80 for the entire back hatch. As far as I know, parts for the 1996 either fit the 2.2 or 2.5. Mine is a 2.2.

I drive a 2005 Baja Sport, with belts for two in the rear seat and a center console. As I drive for a rideshare company, I would like to be able to accommodate 4 passengers and have belts for 4. So I am wondering if any other model/year rear seat would be compatible with my Baja configuration, but give me a center rear seat with a belt instead of the center console. Any help would be appreciated.

So my dad's 93 Legacy had been backfiring on startup & idling high. I checked the timing belt marks & it seems to be off by a tooth or more. Also the driver side timing cover is broken where the cam timing mark would line up, bummer. But lined it up on passenger side & driver cam was off, even after cranking it around by hand. Well while I was working it I noticed it was an EJ20 nice surprise, I wondered why there was more room in the engine bay compared to my Legacy EJ22. Anyway is the timing belt, idler's, water pump & damn near everything else the same between the EJ20 & EJ22? Im sure the timing procedure is the same right? So a timing belt kit for a EJ22 of the same year is the same for a EJ20? Gotta fix it this weekend! Also 4EAT in the car is kinda sluggish, what would some members recommend? A complete fluid flush & new filter? Adding a In-Line tranny filter? Specific Additive or supplement? A pinched breather hose? Any opinions for "tuning up" the older 4EAT are appreciated, Thanks USMB & members for helping & saving each one us time & money on repairs & information/ And also getting to know our Subie's even better. One last thing, I'd read of some people lubricating their throw out bearings threw clutch fork window, Is that something anyone has tried/accomplished? Its risky business greasing Throw out bearing once starting to make noise when clutch engaged. I assume only options are replace it or whole clutch kit OR ignore/get used to it but prepare for consequences. My 95 Legacy makes once pedal is released.

Searched forums but can't find answer...I’m not very technical or mechanical(yet!).. Looking to buy Loyale and I think I found a 1993. Wondering about compatibility. I think I know the answer, it is the 88-94 subaru loyale parts are mostly compatible, right? What about 87’s and older GL’s? My long term plan is to convert to D/R 4wd and maybe engine swap down the road. I would think the lift kits and shocks are same for year range too? Thanks!

I've got a story and need some help. Here's the short version: 1998 OBW with 2.2L (swapped out 2.5L couple years ago). Auto transmission was slipping, and I decided to get it swapped locally. Hired a guy who essentially took my transmission out, installed another, test drove and said it was ready but just needed a drive shaft (?). I made the mistake of paying him for the tranny work. He returned a few days later to swap the drive shaft (while I was at work) and basically made a mess. He left the transmission in pieces and has abandoned the project leaving the parts in the back of the car and the transmission hanging from a couple of bolts. After consulting another mechanic, he confirmed the mess and showed me how the first guy destroyed the current transmission (or back half of the current transmission). My current option is to replace the current transmission, and I'm shopping for a used transmission that will work in this 98 OBW Limited that originally had a 2.5L but now has a 2.2L. My question: do I need to be looking for a specific model number transmission and or differential? Will any auto transmission from a 1998 2.2L donor work? Any info greatly appreciated.
