I am trying to fix an insanely irritating idle problem on my 87 XT. EA82T engine MPFI. Its the one that sat for 17 after my dad fixed the heads and I recently got running. When it idles it wanders by about 200 RPM either way. The main big issue is that when it is in gear (Auto Tranny) it dies if you don't feather the throttle, as you can imagine that would make in town driving a pain. I have checked all the vacuum lines to the best of my knowledge. Scoured the shop manuals i have for the 86 year. Cleaned the idle air screw and the EGR air bypass solenoid as I originally thought it was the IAC valve. I have tested and replaced the vac line to the tranny from the intake manifold. And replaced the vac hoses from the pressure ports on the front of the throttle body. I cleaned the main throttle butterfly as it was suggested that that being dirty could cause this issue. I have triple checked the timing both valve and ignition. The only other thing i can think of it might be is the Aux Air Valve on top of the thermostat housing. I had pulled the electrical plug from it when it was idleing cold and it made no difference. It was my under standing that if you do that when its idling cold there is supposed to be a major idle change? I sort of suspect that it has to be a vac leak somewhere, because the engine gets kinda hot despite an upgraded cooling system and new thermostat. I have been beating my head against the wall about this problem for almost a month. If any of you can help me I would be forever grateful.

Hey all! New to the forum. I own a 2003 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS with 210k miles on it. I bought it used at 207k miles. I do have an extended warranty and have it going into the dealership for repair come a week (backed up due to holidays). Here's a history of issues. About 2-3 months back it started having idle issues to the point where RPM will dip to 100 and then steadily toggle itself back up to about 1k. It isn't all the time but when it acts up it stutters. Not every drive does it do this. Anywhom I checked spark plugs and spark plug wires, they look to be in working order and do not need replacement (from my limited experience). The check engine light coded out for 02 sensor and a cylinder 1 and 2 misfire. More recently I was on the highway driving and it would not accelerate up past 70-80 MPH in 5th gear. Check engine light was flashing, indicating a misfire issue. It would continue to accelerate and function in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. When I got it to a stop light off the highway it died twice. I was able to drive it home without issue after I let the car sit. It idles well for the most part until the mercurial issue arises. Upon doing some research it occurred to me it might be the MAF sensor. My understanding is the MAF sensor can be cleaned and it might be the issue. I've searched around and tried to locate it, I have pictures of my most recent attempt to find it and clean it in an effort to keep the car running until my appointment and have a driveable car. Here are the pictures of what I thought I found to be the MAF sensor. From all that I've seen online this isn't the MAF sensor. Where would I find the MAF sensor on this specific model, and from what I'm experiencing does it seem to be an MAF sensor issue? Would appreciate any thoughts and input. Thanks , this is my first post and hope to learn more about my car and maintenance it well. Love this car in the short 3000 miles I've driven it.

Hi everyone, I'm glad I found you. I am a new owner of a 1995 Subaru Legacy wagon and am having some issues with the automatic door locks. At times they either won't lock or won't stay locked. For instance, I can lock the car and within a moment or two, I will hear the locks click and unlock themselves. This is random but very irritating. Any suggestions? Also, the vehicle seems to have another random issue with the idle or possibly fuel flow and acts like it doesn't want to run smoothly and even doesn't want to shift properly. For the most part, though, it's a great car. As a final note, recently I noticed a rotten egg smell off and on coming from the exhaust but it seems to have gone away (only lasted for a short time). Thanks a bunch!
