Before this car I havent changed tires on my cars, now I wanna custom and tune this car to be healthy and full of life. I believe in the combustion engine and strive to learn about it. GOAL/AIM: custom and tune my impreza so it, with regular maintenance, can be driven beyond 40k km.

So I have a 1997 Impreza outback sport that had a 2.2l in it. I swapped that for a 2.5l out of a 2000 outback and did my best to Frankenstein the harnesses together to get the engine to work. The research I had done previously said that an EJ22 ECU will run an EJ25. So I'm wondering if anyone can help me out if you have any information that may help. I did check and the engine seems to be getting fuel, air, and spark although I'm still unsure about the wiring on the IAC valve.

My 2009 Impreza Outback sport has been experiencing some persistent coolant leaks. I am quite new to working on cars so I have come to you all for help! Initially I thought that it was coming from the coolant hoses connected to the throttle body, so I replaced them, replaced the throttle body gasket, and cleaned the throttle body as well. After attempting to drive it I noticed that when the car got hot and up to pressure the leak was still ongoing paired with quite a large amount of coolant loss. I was able to catch a glimpse of the coolant hose that connects to the air intake manifold on the drivers side (about two inches from the throttle body and slightly under the throttle body’s drivers side coolant hose) leaking coolant. After the engine cooled, I checked out that hose and found that it was absolutely crispy, it had no elasticity to it what so ever. I ordered the part and replaced the hose. Now I’m seeing a coolant leak from that same spot where the hose meets the air intake manifold. I do not have a pressure tester though I will be picking one up shortly. despite this I’m confident that this connection or hose is where the coolant leak is. My questions are as follows: what is the hose fitting that screws into the air intake manifold and allows the vacuum hose to mount on it called? why does this coolant hose have no clips (doesn’t seem to on diagrams I have seen) and could this be an issue? There were no clips on the initial hose and it obviously ran fine for year. Is it possible that its the fitting thats gone bad and not the hose? If so any advice on sourcing and properly replacing it? Thank you everyone!

Hey all. I recently did the first oil change on my new to me 05 STI. It did alright during the circulation after the change, but my low oil pressure light came on on my way home from work. From what posts I can find, I'm guessing a piece of sludge or carbon got dislodged and jammed the pressure relief valve open. I believe that valve is on the oil pump itself? Can anyone confirm that? If it is, how easy would it be to correct? Can I replace that valve, or does it have to be the whole pump? I'm currently in the process of installing an oil pressure gauge, so I can verify what pressure is actually there. Also, I can't think of why it would, but could this have been caused in any way by the fact that I changed it from 5W30 to 5W40 during the change? Thanks in advance.

Hey all. Starting a new thread because it's been awhile since my last post about this topic. Long story short - I have a 2009 Subaru Impreza 2.5I that I did a JDM boxer engine (EJ253) swap with. Everything went smooth except I am getting a P1491 code (PCV sensor error). This is because the boxer engine I put in physically does not have the sensor itself and therefore the ECM from the car is not picking anything up on its end. So after some digging through the FSM I think I found the correct pins where I can put a resistor or jumper on the ECM to artificially complete the circuit and bypass the code. The only problem is that those pins are currently occupied and I am nervous that they may be running to something else. Could JDM just have capped the ends of these two wires somewhere in the harness or are they actually being used? Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm attaching some photos for reference. Picture 1: Wiring diagram found in the FSM. My plan is to put a resistor between pin 41 and pin 45 on B21 (wiring harness from the boxer engine) Picture 2: The back of the wiring harness from the boxer engine. Note that pin 41 is occupied by a yellow / red wire while pin 45 (hard to see) is occupied by a solid orange wire. Appreciate all the help and let me know if my logic is flawed! - Geoff

I've been a car enthusiast for as long as i can remember, but I've only just started looking into working on cars. what was my mom's 1995 impreza is now officially mine. she's not in my name yet, but getting out to the DMV is headache nowadays. anyways, i'm absolutely lost on how to maintenance my impreza. i only really know things about rotaries, but even then i've never gotten my hands on one. about two years before the pandemic started she got stollen and dumped 20 miles away. there are surprisingly few issues because of that and they've mostly been taken care of. however, she's not doing to hot after sitting for five years, so i was wondering what some really basic things i can do on a tight budget to make her feel better are. im sure i could search a little longer and find out how to do these things, but i don't know how to word my searches and it's so tiring searching for answers rather than having answers and applying them. so really, anything you can think of that i can just do to breathe some new life into her will help me so much. shes a base model L, 2.2L, if i remember correctly EJ22, N/A, automatic, and other than mud-flaps, fog lights, and questionable custom wheels from '98 shes bone stock. shes also not a roller, my brother took her around the block like a year and a half ago and she starts up kind of okay. ignites first try, just sounds really sad. im honestly glad the person who ordered those wheels originally didn't pick them up. i dont know what they would have put them on but they're so butt ugly they would have ruined the car no matter what. those wheels are nightmare fuel. i'll add anything i forgot and images of the engine bay and those horrendous wheels when its not literally 2am. and thank you in advance! even knowing a forum like this exists makes it a little easier to see a future for me and my soob <3

Have a 97 legacy with a 3.90 final drive, need a new tranny. Have the option of getting a 97 Impreza transmission. The question here is, both have 3.90 final drive. All the gears are a bit shorter ,The one Impreza has a 3.333 fifth gear, while mine has a 3.416. The difference being the 1.8l Impreza vs. the 2.2l Impreza had different transmissions. The 1.8l has all the same ratios as my legacy, the 2.2l has shorter gears. What if any difference would it make putting that transmission in my legacy.

So first off, let me start off by saying, I know practically nothing about this car, past the very basics. I've been wanting a Subaru for a long time now though. One of my coworkers heard that I was searching for an affordable Subaru. He told me he had a 2003 Impreza that was basically just taking up space in his garage, that he's trying to get rid of. He said the only thing that may need to be fixed or replaced is the transmission, and he estimated that it would be around two grand to fix. That aside there's no damage to the car from what I know of aside from a small dent (I'll be taking someone with me who knows what they're doing when I check it out). With this information is this a good deal for a 2003 impreza? I've tried searching around but I could find nothing less than 6-10,000 for one.

This is where my build currently sits, figured I'd share it. It's a 1967 Beetle dropped on a 1998 Subaru Impreza NA 2.2 chassis. I had the shorten the pan about 5 inches and the suspension is a bit wide in the rear. There were a handful of routes I could have take th avoid that like cutting the body in half or lowering the shock towers and putting shorter shocks in, but I want the beetle to have as many off the shelf parts as possible so if something breaks I can easily find it. The front end is not staying like that, I'm going with a full fiberglass front but I'm not going to touch all that until I have the back sorted. The build is also getting uploaded on youtube if you want to follow along:

Hey there! I’m new to this forum and finally decided to write about a problem I’ve been having for months now. My 2012 Subaru Impreza base has been squeaking ever since I got my engine replaced around December of 2020. It only happens when I accelerate from second gear up. I also replaced the stock air box with a cold air intake, but the noise has been there far before I did this. I also replaced the serpentine belt and it still makes the sound. I’ve tried putting a rag in the exhaust to see if it’s an exhaust leak and the exhaust builds up pressure and spits it back out. As I said before I got the engine and the catalytic converter replaced it had no such issue. Although when the cat was replaced they didn’t check the sensors attached to it and one was bad so I had to go back and have it replaced. Also when the engine was replaced they claimed they filled it with Freon, but my A/C didn’t work so they had to fill it up because it was empty. My ac also isn’t as cold as I think it should be. I include all the details about the A/C because I’ve read that the compressor could be going out. When my engine was replaced I had 180000 miles on my car, not it’s at the higher end of 195k. Also my serpentine belt is correctly in place and all the pullies spin, and the compressor turns off and lets the belt run freely when the A/C is off. If you guys could give me some advice I’d really appreciate it. I’ve been through two mechanics and my dad who turns wrenches and they’re all saying different things, so I need some help from someone who knows a lot about my model Subaru specifically. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I’m extremely new to “modifying” any type of road vehicle. I have experience with atv’s and dirt bikes. When I bought my Impreza last Saturday I had originally thought it would be very easy to find aftermarket parts that actually were worth spending money on to replace or add on to my vehicle. So basically my question is does anyone have any recommendations/ links as to what I am able/should put inside my Impreza? I appreciate any and all feedback even if there’s nothing I can do.

Hello, Just purchased a 2007 Impreza 2.5i, it came with the stock head unit which I quickly swapped out for a Sony car stereo I purchased new from Crutchfield. Install was easy, wired up the harness, plugged the ground back into the bracket, radio works great, no issues at first. After a day I get in the car, go to start it up, as soon as I turn the key to the “on” position I hear a click and all electrical in the car ceases to function, completely dead. So I pop the hood, disconnect the negative battery terminal then reconnect, Immediately everything works just like nothing had happened. This has happened several times over the last couple of days. Anyone encountered this issue before? Any idea what may be going on? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My '06 WRX failed to get me more than 1/3 the way to work this morning. Had a few drops or 'water' up on the winshield near left A pillar, then had a subtle hot coolant smell. Then a wisp of steam. Pulled into a lot, popped the hood. Wet all around front left. High enough that it was blowing back from the hood at the fender panel. Never saw any pinhole stream or active dripping. O'flow tank at mid level , never overheated according to gauge. Went back home. Haven't looked in rad yet - cooling off now. Pulled the snorkel and saw a little gel-booger with dried white-ish deposit 'blown-back' from center-ish area of top tank.(will try to post pic, I haven't really firgured out how to do that very well yet) Everything so far looks like a crimp leak or maybe a crack? in top of rad.? Fans are cycling so, I feel the temp gauge was properly reporting and there seems to be no sign of a headgasket issue . Kinda also wondering about best replacement rad. Denso? TYC? Other? Is there a brand I should prefer or, maybe more important, avoid? I wouldn't ming paying for quality. In Texas, I need as much cooling capacity as I can get. Not really wanting to modify the car so, drop-in prefered of course. Any other work I should do 'while I'm in there' ? I have original hoses so, I plan to replace those. Although it's been wiped away, the little 'gel-like' deposit was near that bolt-head, on the vertical surface of the front brace above the rad's front crimp area. To me, obviously associated with that white deposit. Couold have been seeping for some time.

I apologize if there is another thread related to this. If there is, point me to it and I'll be on my way. Basically, this is where I'm at. I have a 2009 Impreza 2.5i. Rear Setup RalliTEK 1" Rear Raised Springs & KYB Excel-G Struts plus 3/4" Spacers Get-Primitive Sub Frame Spacer Kit Front Setup RalliTEK 1" Front Raised Springs & KYB Excel-G Struts plus 1/2" Front Lift Kit Spacers Mevotech Control Arms with Whiteline Anti-Lift Kit I had ordered the sub frame spacer kit to align the rear tires center in the wheel well but appears after the suspension settled, the tires have gone back to their original position. My question is, what do I need to center the rear tires to the wheel well? Trailing arm spacers?

Like the title states - I have a 2008 Impreza (auto trans) with a cruise control problem. After about 5 to 10 minutes of driving the cruise stops working and the "cruise" light flashes until I turn the car off. Wait few minutes for it to reset. Wash, rinse & repeat. I've read several other threads with similar symptoms. But mine -There's no check engine, or other idiot lights in conjunction with... Plugged my scan tool in anyways (just in case) and it says everything is ok. Clearly not. Any Ideas? Thanks!

I have a 2007 Outback with manual non-heated seats. I also have access to a 2007 Outback with electric seats that are heated. The interior in my Outback is trashed and I want to swap the good interior from the broken car into mine. Has anybody dealt with installing seats that have wiring for electric and/or heated situations? I'm assuming that the entire wiring harness to some degree needs to be changed. Anybody that's been through the process could help me save time I'd appreciate it. All the love from Colorado!

hello, I am new to this forum and to Subarus. I just bought a '99 Impreza Outback Sport. It's hard to drive at night because most of the tiny bulbs that light up switches like the cruise control and the backlights for the heater and AC are burned out. While at a wrecking yard for other parts I tried to find bulbs, but almost all of them are burned out. There is supposed to be an old sticky to a thread on this, but I can't get it to load. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello, I am looking at a Subaru where it is a loud ticking noise from the engine. Look at the video linked: It apparently started when the person startet up the car and the car suddenly revs higher and higher by itself. They managed to stop it without any problem. Sounded like a turbo problem, but after a look on it it seems like that is not the case. Don't see why it would tick like that either. Diagnosed the fuel flow into the cylinder and that seems fine... Can the chain make this noise?, even though I don't think that'sit. Its a Subaru Impreza 150hk 2010 model. I am completely new to Subaru. -Thanks for the help

Hello Everyone. I have a 2002 Impreza OBS and was going to change my coolant. Done way too much reading but I was about to buy the Peak Long Life concentrate as it seemed the best match. But then I came across the the Subaru Coolant Conditioner that is suggested as an additive. Sounds like it is a good idea. I am getting a bit of head gasket leakage and it sounds like this could only help. Anyway I found it on Amazon and when I was there I also spotted what looked to be the OEM coolant from Subaru itself. I was surprised/suspicious that the Subaru Concentrate is more than 50% cheaper than buying the Peak Long Life at an Autozone? I have included links. Couple of questions: 1. Does my 2002 Impreza OBS have a bleeder valve to release the air in the coolant system or anyone have a link for the best way to bleed air on when refilling? (I have seen such valves on YouTube videos for other cars - but don't see it listed in my Haynes manual). 2. Any reason not to buy the inexpensive Subaru Coolant Concentrate (beyond my paranoia?) Thanks Peter http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007L72U1C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A12WOLQM5J3T6R http://www.amazon.com/Subaru-SOA635071-Coolant-System-Conditioner/dp/B00IGZP2UE

Hey everyone I have a 97 obs with 270,000 miles and it has an issue when I let off the pedal. It doesn't happen all the time but when it does the car does not respond when I press the gas for a second or two and then it will thud into gear. When it's doing this it feels almost like it braking and the rpms drop slowly. Just so you know I have owned this car near 4 years and have put over 80,000 miles on it. The brakes, calipers, drums, and shoes have been replaced over time. It has been doing this since the day I drove it home. The transmission fluid was a thick black sludge almost when I first for it and besides happening on and off had never been a issue but I have noticed it getting more and more frequent. I have a spare transmission was just wondering if anyone else had a thought of what it could be. Thanks
