1. 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback 2.5 A year ago I bought my 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback 2.5. It was in great condition and ran like a dream. The CEL was permanently on, the previous owner said it was a bypass (something to do with the exhaust?) and not to worry . Never had any issues with it until now. A couple of months ago it started occasionally not starting the first time I would turn the key….I would take the key out, reinsert it and it would start right up. I did notice that my key was kind of loose in the ignition and I would have to wiggle it to get the ding ding noise. I also noticed a lot of corrosion on the battery terminals. Three weeks ago I ran it (for the first time) so slow on gas that the fuel light came on., I put gas in and I noticed the fuel light came on a couple of miles down the road, but just for about a mile. It also lagged once going up a hill. The next morning it would not start at all….not push start and not by a jump. The battery drained down to nothing and stayed that way. Replaced the fuel filter. It then started with a jump, but the idle was rough and it wouldn’t stay running. Also blew out white-ish smoke for a bit. Had a gear head friend take a look….fuel to engine problem was suggested. He also noted that my O2 sensor wasn’t there (probably the bypass previous owner did and reason the CEL always on) He brought his code reader..but it wouldn’t run long enough to read anything. I replaced the fuel filter…..and the spark plugs….and got a new battery. Fuses have all been checked. It’s not the MAF either. Now it starts (still has the ignition issue), but it is misfiring and the check engine light is flashing. Any input would be much appreciated at this point. I live 15 miles out of town in a very rural area. So it has been devastating to my daily life (getting food, propane, auto parts store, and not being able to get to work for 3 weeks).
2. OK, First thing that happened is my car would die, almost like a belt broke. Didn't matter how fast I was going, it would just die. I immediately put a new fuel filter on....ran OK for a day. I felt what I thought was "clogs" being dissolved, from the fuel treatment I put in when I replaced the fuel filter. However, the next day it started dieing again. Than it died and would not start again. I replaced the fuel filter again, and the fuel pump. I can hear the pump start to work, or at least think I can. Plan on seeing if starter fluid will start her tomorrow...and hoping like hell I can find the relay....Please any advise is soooo very appreciated!!!! I'm on a super tight budget and my kids have sports, I am definitely up sht creek with out a paddle...plus my car is at a gas station parking lot......
3. I am having some trouble with my 1999 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. I was out driving the other day, simple point-a to point-b, and when I arrived home I put my vehicle in park and turned the vehicle off. However, when I took my keys out of the ignition and took my foot off the brake, the vehicle began to roll forward. I quickly engaged the brake and the car stopped. I took my foot off the brake again and the car began to roll again. I then attempted to engage the brake and start my vehicle. No luck. The engine would not even turn over. Additionally the gear shifter is locked in the position that indicates the vehicle is in park. Even when I put the keys in the ignition and turn them as if I were starting the car the shifter will not move from the park position. So here is what I have tried. With the help of my owners manual I was able to take the panels off of my center console where my gear shifter is located, I was able to override the locking mechanism that was keeping my shifter in the park position, and move the shifter to neutral. I attempted to start the vehicle in neutral. No luck. I moved the gear shifter back into 2nd and then all the way forward to park. I did this a few times and then attempted to start the vehicle again in both park and neutral. No luck. From here I turned my attention to the internet in hopes that I would find a clear explanation on how to fix this issue myself. No luck there. I got some clues in a forum similar to this that the problem could be either my "neutral safety switch" or my "inhibitor switch." I saw a few posts debating whether or not an automatic transmission (AT) vehicle, such as mine, did or did not have a "neutral safety switch." At this point I called my father and he agreed to come over and offer any help that he could. Together we were able to locate what looks to be my vehicles "neutral safety switch" and from there we were able to manipulate this switch by pushing what look like shifter arms in a clockwise fashion and this allowed the vehicle to start up. However, even with the vehicle now on, the problem persisted. I was not able to move my gear shifter from the park position. I overrode the locking mechanism again and moved the gear shifter into reverse and then drive but this had no apparent effect on the vehicle. I would really like to find a solution to this issue and do the repairs myself. I appreciate any advice or comments that will help me find that solution. Thank you in advance.
4. am trying to find the best fit of sti engine to go into my 03 legacy outback. Any feedback would be much appreciated need a winter project and cant think of anything better.I live in minnesnowta so ill have plenty of time to work on it lol. Thanks for the help!!!
5.
Does anyone have any ideas about this problem? The transmission worked properly with no sign about any problem - just progressively got harder to shift into a position. Now locked in drive - always had plenty of the proper transmission fluid.
