At highway speeds, there is a vibration, feels like it's from the front, steering wheel cycles left-right about 5 times a second. I just had new tires put on. What besides tire imbalance can cause symptoms similar to tire imbalance? mkoch

Hello all, Okay, I’m taking a Skiing trip to Canada. Canada requires snow tires (Triple Peak or M/S tires) on certain roads. I haven’t had to buy snow tires in Washington. Question is, would it be wise to buy steel rims for the snow tires, or just have them mount them on the OEM rim? I would have to buy tpms sensors for the new rims. Would I have to get the tpms calibrated each time I change the tires from season to season?

Hello all, new to the forum here. I have recently purchased a 2000 Forester and I am looking for advice on good lift/tire combinations. I really like the look of a lifted forester, but would like somewhere to start. I have looked on other postings but all of the images are no longer available. Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Hello All, I have a 2003 outback that is in need of some new tires. I am looking to use the vehicle as a daily drive/ trip car (camping, beach, exploring, etc) I am going to spend most of my time on the road, as such, noise, tread-life, and wet weather handling are important. That said, I live in NC, I spend time in the mountains and on the outer banks. I am not looking to ford a river or drive on an island. but some sand, gravel, rock, etc will he negotiated at times. I am looking for a tire that will be practical on the road, but will not leave me stranded if I decide to venture off the road a little bit. Currently looking at continental TrueContact all season. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Had a flat yesterday, tires are pretty new <10Kmiles on them, very little thread wear. thinking on replacing only that one. tirerack says the full thread depth spec is 10/32", I measure 9/32" with my caliper. Searched the owner manual and found no mention that it may damage AWD? IIRC for my previous 02' and 2010' Legacy there used to be some acceptable tolerance on the tire diameter difference, but see nothing here?. Is the difference in tire diameter (circumference) no longer an issue with the new AWD drive for this MY? -Michael

2014 Subaru Forester [i posted this to another forum & did not get good answers so am posting here.] I had a tire dealer tell me that if one tire is damaged and cannot be repaired, I need to replace not just that tire and its opposite mate but all 4 tires. If all tires have reasonable tread left, say 6/32 or 7/32, do all tires really need to be replaced? Or do the tires only need to be replaced in pairs - that is, front L/R or rear L/R?

I'm trying to figure out what i'm going to do for wheels on my 93 Loyale Wagon.... Just envisioned it with those Crosstrek rims to mix new with old. Anyone do that yet? These rims prob are not easily available though. I like these peugeot wheels: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/1983gl.html Found some old mazda rx7 rims that I might grab (4 lugged). This ain't easy, but fun ;-) guidance welcome.

Had 04 forester, sold to buy a 02 Lexus rx300. Still have the Lexus with 204k and going strong. Traded in Prius C for the Outback with all the cool new safety and comfort features. Plan on many long road trips finding out of the way places for birding, wildlife photo ops and Adventure. Lexus was perfect for such past trips, but am excited to have a new car that will be better in snow and have more clearance. Also get a little nervous taking a car with over 200k to remote locations. Can't wait for La Nina to come back to the NW this coming winter!

My beloved Subaru "BumbleBeast" has been with me since New, from june 1985; I changed the Lug pattern on it since year 1996, from 4X140 to 4X114.3 to gain easy access to a more variety of Rims; I posted photos and more information regarding that, ~► Here. I choosed originally fifteen inches Rims, as they're easier to find Tires in many sizes, brands and styles; and their price is not high, so, I choosed this ones, which were Five Spokes 15" X 7" wheels, and 25" all-terrain tires: But after that, I never Liked too much their looks, because they were somehow "Too Much Bling-Bling" for my style and the offset wasn't perfect, they came a little to the outside ... Some months after I obtained them, I had financial problems, so I sold them, and obtained as Gift, the old ones from the Buyer's car, which are also 15" but beated steelies + half worn tires, out from a Hyundai Elantra, see: I decided to run my "BumbleBeast" like that for a while, because I planned to reunite enough money for a New set of 15" Rims with five spokes but all Black finish ... But suddenly I lost my Job, after fourteen years being there, due to political reasons, and I'm Not a political person... (Photo taken my last day at my ex-job's parking lot) So I had to stay with those ugly steelies for around a year so far ... But my Spare wheel is a 15" rim that came from a '93 Nissan 240SX, it is a lightweight aluminium, seven spoke Rim: These has the very Perfect offset (40) for the Subaru, and are somehow "age correct" for my "BumbleBeast" So, lately I've been Thinking about obtaining a Complete set of four Used rims from a 240SX, as I already have tested the one I have, and somehow its look grown on me... also used Rims are Cheap to obtain here, in Honduras, and I'm in "Low Budget Mode" If I obtain a set of four of those, I plan to: ► clean them, ► polish them, ► paint them, with Black powdercoat, so, let me Know what do you Think about that idea. Kind Regards.

Amazon carries a tire that might work for some of you. I have no experience with them. Just passing it along. Hi folks, I know this has been covered a million times, but unfortunately I can't find a clear answer. I'm looking to swap out my old tires (165/65R13) for new shoes before attempting to drive across the country. I'd like to go as large as possible without running into any rubbing issues or requiring any sort of lift or fender cuts. It seems as though folks are recommending 165/80, 175/70, 175/80 and some 185/70. Does anyone have experience/recommendations with any of these on a Gen1 Brat? I'm leaning toward 175/70 to be safe, but I'd love to hear what people think (and see any pics that might be floating around). Thanks!

OK, I have read other posts here about keeping tire sizes the same on awd and it seems none are conclusive...........The car I bought was actually a 1993 instead of a 1992 Legacy wagon with 223000 miles..The car is a FIVE SPEED and It runs GREAT. Only a few issues... 1) Park brake button is GONE ... 2)Both rear tires are gone on the inside they may have been rotated from the front? Do I need to replace ALL four tires at the same time? 3)Right rear brake is scrubbing(probly just needs a brake job, rotor is a little rusty) 4)Driver shoulder belt thing does not move in the track. How or where do I fix the seat belt thing ? 5) Shifter needs bushings....Where to buy them? Thats all I can think of now..Any responses are GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks in advance

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your loved ones. Driving a Subaru Outback 2003 VDC 3L H6 in great condition and running Michellin Performance Primacy MXV4 225/60R16 98H from Costco. Costco's general tire rotation recommendation is every 7500 miles. I just did a first rotation at 8,201 miles. Should I do my next rotation close to another 8,201 miles to keep things relatively even, or sooner at 7 or 7500 miles? Also Costco rotated them front to back and back to front, keeping the tires on the same side (in other words, R front and R rear switched, and L front and L rear switched). Is this always the correct pattern? Generally how soon after tire rotation to you go for wheel alignment? Barring any particularly jarring pothole or bump, how often do you align your wheels?

Now I looked over the car with my mother and we test drove Nala (Her name, yes yes i Know. Childish, but Lion King will always be a part of my life lmao) and she ran great. She had a loose heat shield, which caused a slight racking noise, but the dealer fixed it right away before selling it to us (Sales person was really nice and very straight forward. Dealer had a really high rating with BBB, and my neighbor just bought a brand new Audi from the same dealer). I had a mechanic I trust look over the car and he said everything looked good to him. Tires, engine bay...etc. Now...Would you find it to be odd that a used 2008 Subaru legacy sold by an Audi dealership, has 3 Yokohama tires and one Bridge stone tire (Front right). And not even a full week later, the tire pressure monitor light goes on? I mean my mechanic and I both looked over the tires, and saw that the tires had plenty of tread, almost like brand new tires. Can't believe we didn't see that the tires had different brands. Now the sales person said that the car was previously owned by a girl who went to MIT, and that she took really good care of it. Clean Car fax, no visible wear, no quirks with the car, literally felt brand new. She took the train to school and left the car at home, so that's why this 08 has lower miles than an average car would, so maybe she caught a flat and then replaced it? The only thing that is getting me is the two different sets of tires 0.o' and the Tire monitor light are on a car I Bought less than two weeks ago. I was thinking of Calling the dealer and bringing it back to have them look at it. I'd rather tell me I have a flat or something after looking at it, instead of me assuming. But to my recollection I haven't run over anything that would cause a flat, or cause the tire to start losing air. But in this life, freak things happen. So what do you guys think?
