hey all, I recently acquired a 1990 legacy. Drove it for a couple days, then all of a sudden I'm driving along and all of a sudden the car dies instantly with all electrical gone. Checked the battery and alternator and both are good. Tracked it down to the fusible link in the underhood fuse box, which had blown. So i grabbed another one, put it in and as soon as i hooked the battery up it blew up. Pulled all the fuses in the box, put in another and smoked it too. So i'm at a loss. I'm new to Subaru's, anyone have electrical issues like this before? I don't know what would be upstream of the fuse panel that, with all fuses removed, would be smoking this fusible link like that. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I am in desperate need of a 1994 Subaru Legacy EJ22 Wiring Harness and ECU in order to do a Volkswagen Vanagon Engine Swap. I have a custom made conversion kit through Kennedy Automotive out of Palmdale California that is made specifically for a 1985 Automatic Volkswagen Vanagon and a 1994 Subaru Legacy EJ22 engine. I have the transmission conversion kit and the engine and everything else that came with the cutom conversion kit except for the wiring harness. Any help in locating the part would be MUCH appreciated. I am willing to pay for shipping handling and labor if anyone can find one in decent condition. I can't find any junkyards within hundreds of miles of my location that have this car in their yards. I need this specific engine wiring harness because the conversion company has a deal with the state of California that allows instant smog certification on these specific engines.

hello all, I'm new to the forum... I'm swapping a 96 ej25 motor and TZ102Z2ABA transmission into my 99 LGT (ej25 motor, TZ1A2ZJEAA transmission) The research I've done shows the 4.444 ratio on both transmission to rear ends. (please correct me if you have differing info) Everything lines up the same except the plugs from the car to the 102z2aba transmission are different. The plugs have the same number of pins but are different in shape. The wiring from the old trans to the new are different colors. I can't find a wiring diagram or info from someone that has done this swap before and am not sure where to go from here...

Just picked up a 1990 legazy auto for cheap. only got it cheap because a pack rat ate the engine harness up. so i got a new harness from a junk yard. replaced it and turns out it has been parked the past 4 years was im pretty sure the ignition control module went out. only cylinders 1 and 2 firing. not 3 and 4. well did research on here and check the continutiy between the coils and control module. good. changed coils. no change. so going to get a new on of those. but to be sure that it's not a ground issue i need help locating where this one ground goes. on the passenger side under the abs unit there are 2 grounds. one from the headlight harness that goes to body and the other one i can not find any place that it would hook up. can some on please point me in the right direction or picture. i got the manual with the ground locations but its so vauge it just doesn't help. thanks

Can somebody please confirm/comment on (e.g., re-fine) my understanding of how the Subaru A/C compressor and ECU work. As a background, I'm in the middle of re-wiring a Subaru harness to work with a VW vanagon, so I'm trying to figure out exactly how the Subaru wires and Subaru components will integrate with my Vanagon A/C wire and dash controls. Here's my understanding of Subaru >> When the driver pushes the A/C ON button: 1. A signal is sent to the A/C compressor to turn ON. 2. The A/C compressor get its power from the belt system (not a wire). 3. A signal is also sent to the ECU to tell it that A/C is ON. This allows the brains to control idling differently while AC is on vs. off. The process is the opposite when the driver pushes the OFF button on the dash. So, there are two wires. One goes to the ECU One goes to the A/C compressor Is this a correct understanding of how the Subaru A/C system works, in a nutshell? So, I'm thinking I don't need to wire any pwr wires to the A/C comp. But, I do need to wire the signal wires up. Are the two wires the same gauge? Seems like a simple signal could be carried on a 18 AWG wire easy enough.

I have a '78 GF that I'm currently in the process of restoring from having an engine fire, and the wiring harness was so far gone I didn't think it was worth saving. Long story short, it's got a new wiring harness from a 1978 BRAT, and there are a couple of plugs that don't line up. There's one that I feel I could make work pretty easily in the BRAT harness that runs back to the brake lights of the car, but the one that is causing issue is (and forgive me for lack of the proper technical term) the long black plug-in that is 2 rows high and 15 or so across... With the BRAT harness for the dash, it leaves that end of the plug clear on the other, wrong side of the car where the other end (connected to the original harness that runs through the rest of the car) is sitting. I don't know of a way to get this to adapt offhand without cutting and splicing in some fashion all those wires (which I really don't see myself doing) and I was wondering if anyone had a harness (the one that goes through the dash, and into the engine bay) they would be able to sell me. Shipping isn't an issue...if you've got a harness I'll pay whatever shipping and then some for gratitude. I hope this explaination hasn't been TOO confusing to read...and any advice that may help me be able to still use the dash wiring harness from the brat would be more than appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Hey guys! My buddy has agreed to help me do a wiring harness with my 78 BRAT. He said if I get a kit he can help me build it, but he needs to know the specs I need. Anyone know of what the most reliable kit I could get to work for this? I also plan on doing the ea81 alt/disty swap when I install the harness. I just need something simple, preferrably with labelled leads to build a new wiring harness. This will be a great learning project for me and I'll post pics and my steps so others can learn too! Thanks! Connor
