I'm in need of help. I have a 1996 Legacy GT with the 2.5l motor. I changed the front camshaft oil seal and the timing belt. During the process things got out of wack. The engine will start and seems to run fine on fast idle (2500-3000 rpm) for 15-20 secs. Idle drops (below 1000 rpm) engine starts running rough and spitting and sputtering. I try giving it gas and it won't rev up and dies at that point if I don't shut it off first. All timing marks are in what I think are the proper positions according to the diagram that's posted all over the internet and in the Haynes manual. Problem is the marks on the belt and the marks on the pulleys and on the cover won't line up perfectly, like it shows in the diagram. I don't know if what's happening is a result of the timing belt being off by a tooth or if I bent the valves at some point. Can someone please help? Other info there is compression at least in the first cylinder. Have changed spark plugs, plug wires and pcv valve.

Hello all, Hope ya'all don't beat me up to bad I think I have to go back to basics. My son's subie went to the ORV park then he went back to Military AIT and the car was sitting in the driveway. When we went to move it it would barely run. So there was a couple of repair needed on the harness that I have read and wanted to look at and I did. Then I decided to do a tune-up on the car. Well now it starts and does not stay running. First question on the fuel pump. Is the pump supposed to pump in the "run" position? Mine does not it starts pumping in the start position....? Help...........Please? Thanks, Eric

Hello everyone, Nice website you've got here, I finally had to stop lurking and make an account because she stopped running and it was time to ask for help, so here goes: I've got an 86 subaru GL, 300,000+ miles, rebuilt ea82, she's been running really well lately but the other day I started her up on the first try, as usual, just jumped right to life. I drove about 10 feet and stopped at a stop sign and the engine died. Wouldn't start but still turn over. Checked the fuel pump fuse and it was blown, so I replaced it and she started right up again. I drove about 4 blocks and it died again, wouldn't start. Fuel pump fuse was blown again. Replaced the fuse, started up, and died immediately. Fuse was blown again. Subsequently replaced and blew 3 more fuses, without the car running for more than a second, and was then all out of spares and had to get a tow back home. I've been hearing it could be that the fuel pump relay has gone out. My plan was to replace the relay this afternoon and see if that does it, but I could use some information in regards to the location of the fuel pump, or if anyone else has any ideas or solutions it'd be great to her em. Thanks!
